Sounds like Weber genesis wins! I bought one right after Sandy and it uses half the propane of my old brand X grill. I grill year round at least twice a week and it still looks new.

Cheap is expensive!

I currently own four Webers (yes I am nuts). Genesis, performer, Weber Q, and a smokey mountain. They are untouchable in quality and customer service. If you do have any issues, the company will help you out. Most times the part will be free and sent out FedEx.

Stay away from the Spirt, that is the one made in China.

Southern has a good point about NG over LP. You also don't need to worry about running out of fuel.

Go big. Grills are important. If you can get a built-in, do it. Check out the Alturi's. They are beasts. Plus they look cool.

Find the money and buy a Weber. Have had mine for 17 years, leaving it outside all year long (uncovered) and the only things I have had to replace are the flavorizer bars and the grill grate. Excellent quality product.

I have a like new Weber grill that is for gas line use(not propane) that I am not using. It is a bigger grill(not sure what type as I'm not home) that I'm looking to sell. I never used it before in my house as I don't have a gas line setup.
I did have it at my aunts house for a bit where it was used.
It is in Colts Neck of your interested in something used to get you by

I know, this question comes up a lot. That said, my wife and I got a grill as a wedding gift about 4 years ago, but it's time for a new one. This one has rusted through underneath and it doesn't start as well as it once did. Anyway, because I'm often cooking one or two things just for us, I need a gas grill. (I know, charcoal is better, for all the purists out there.) On the other hand, we're having a big party next month and I want at least 4 burners for occasions like that.
My question is this...I can by the Nexgrill 5-burner with searing and side burner for $299 or the Weber 4-burner for $899. Is there that much of a difference? Will the Weber last longer? Can somebody with real knowledge tell me why it's three times the price? Beyond size and burner type, I really don't know what I'm looking for or what I'm paying for. Thanks for any help.
What the heck are you doing to your grill that it's in need of replacement after 4 years? While agree with the sentiment that Weber is the way to go of at all possible, I've had a cheap CharBroil for almost 14 years and outside of replacing the burners and grates it works fine.

Webers are very good. However the best grill on the market by far is THE BIG GREEN EGG (biggreenegg.com) . It has a cult following. I bought one and the food tastes superior due to the thick (about 1.5 inches guesstimate) ceramic walls which keep and seal all the moisture and flavor in the meat. You can also smoke on it. Heats up to over 1000 degrees (you control the temp) so you can get restaurant quality seared steaks and even cook pizzas on it. It uses hard wood charcoal like hickory and oak for fuel.

I have also been looking into acquiring a pellet fed grill and have seen a lot of people recommending Traeger on this site. There is another brand REC TEC which is less well know, but according to all of the online reviews is superior. If you are considering a Traeger, do your homework and compare it to a REC TEC. Grill on and go RU.

The Weber is just plain better. Better materials, better construction, better design. After a few decades of various and sundry backyard grills of all types, my wife bought me my first Weber Genesis for Father's Day last year. It is, in a word, incomparable. Feels better, cooks better.

Know this - if you're a devoted backyard bbq guy, you may go through many grills over the years. You may not buy a Weber this time, but eventually you will. So why not just get it now?

Absolutely all ^that^. My dad got a Weber when a friend told him he had tried many of the lesser grills out there and wouldn't go back after owning a Weber. His lasted for well over a decade. He bought me one as an Xmas present my first year out in Colorado and had it shipped cross country. Had to run home midday because shipping co wouldn't take it up the long staircase leading to my deck and left it in the parking area below - people were driving by and ready to take it cause they thought it was left out for garbage. Brought it up piece by piece and used it in the dumping snow that night.

Best. Present. Ever. I've had it for just over a decade now - use it all year, many times through snowstorms, almost always leave it uncovered, through rain, 70-mph winds, snow, etc. Thing's had feet of snow bury it multiple times. Done multiple moves, including having to wheel it, shaking and rattling, up and down my hilly yard to get it onto the deck. Outside looks near-new, save for the wheels breaking off (no big deal), and still lights first time, every time with built-in switch. Will replace the propane connector/line and rusty flavor bars below the grill this year, but beyond that, all original parts running like new 10 years in.

So to answer, yes, the Weber is worth the money. As others have said, you can get cheaper Webers. Do that if you want to save money. If money's a factor, follow that, otherwise why get a sh#t grill you expect to last a couple years when so much evidence points to Weber?

Can mods just paste a sticky to the top of the board that says "Buy the Weber." That's pretty much how these threads always go.

Maybe one for Honda Accord, too.

Just did burgers and spicy corn to start the weekend off!

Love some grilled corn - what do ya spice the corn with?

I find grilled corn takes on smoke really nicely. Cook it on the Weber with chips or direct over wood fire, brushed olive oil, no foil, salt, pepper and maybe some cayenne or paprika for a bit of spice and color. It comes out great (so long as you watch and roll it, particularly over wood). Perfect with a ribeye that was grilled right next to it.

Butter, lemon juice, fresh parsley, pepper, salt & red pepper flakes. I grind the peppercorns in a mortar and pestle, then add sea salt and red pepper flakes and grind it all together. Coarsely chop the parsley, melt the butter, add the lemon juice and spices and mix it all together with a fork. Place 2-3 ears on a sheet of aluminum foil, brush each ear with the mixture, wrap them up, grill them on medium direct heat for 15 minutes or so, flipping once.

My next door neighbor has heard me sing the praises of the Weber grills for years. He is rather thrifty and came back from shopping with the spirit model. I did not have the heart to tell him that the one he chose might not be a long lasting one

Had an old Professional Series that I purchased from Fortunoff about 15 years ago. Worked fine and got many years of use out of it. Outside was still in decent shape, but I replaced the internals several times and it got to a point where it was very difficult to light. Just bought an Alfresco - best high end gas grill on the market today. Thing is a beast. Built in smoker with it's own dedicated burner, infrared cooking with sear-zone, capable of temperatures a Weber could only dream of, built like a tank, etc. Expensive, but really nice.

Has he used it yet? If not, it's not too late to give him a head's up.

You can get a good American made grill on sale at home depot this weekend. It's the aussie grill and if you are looking to do basic grilling it does the trick. Now if you're looking to rotisserie, bbq a brisket for 12 hours or professionally sear a steak this isn't the grill for you. But at $49.00 and on sale this weekend for $39.00 its a good get at.332 square in. of cooking space I bought two last year and utilize all 664 square in. for less than $80.00 .

I have the Traeger elite grill which this grill is copied after. I love it and do use my Lynx grill since I got the Traeger.

Backstory.... I always wanted a smoker since I love ribs, brisket, pulled pork etc. My friend always told me how he cooked everything on his Traeger. I did not understand how he cooked a great steak on a smoker until I bought mine. The grill can get up to 450 and the heat is perfectly even across the whole surface since there is round pellet fire pit in the bottom center with blowers distributing the heat. There two steel tray covering the fire pit, one very heavy metal the other a drip tray and of course the grill piece. Every thing comes on perfect on it! Last night did lamb chops, no flare ups ever and evenly seared chops. Chicken is always perfect since you can adjust the heat very accurately. Did my Christmas turkey and my very picky brother in laws said it was the best they ever had.

Fish comes out perfect as well as burgers. You can set temperature from smoke to 450 and the grill sticks at the temperature you set it at. I haven't discusses how great it is at smoking, the reason I bought it. Fill the hopper throw a seasoned brisket on it and walk away for 10 hours, Actually you should wrap the brisket halfway through. Ribs come out awesome and the same with a pork shoulder. I do not see me using my Lynx unless I have a large crowd coming over and need two grills. Highly recommend these type grills to anyone that likes grilling.

http://www.traegergrills.com/
Wasn't in the market for a grill or smoker but came across the Traeger Tailgater last night at the local Home Depot. From $499 to under $300. Thought the price was for the floor model but they had one new in the box. Heard/seen/tasted great things come from these grills. When the store rep showed me why it was called the Tailgater I was hooked. Folding legs! On a pellet grill that would easily fit in the back of the Jeep.
I already have the large heavy gauge steel 1,060 sq in offset barrel smoker which is awesome, especially for parties and volume cooking. However it is not for everyday cooking and certainly not portable, weighs a ton. The Traeger will fill the void of both issues. Look forward to learning a different way to smoke/grill. And tailgates will be tastier next year!

I didnt read everything but one of the things that I read in the OP that I had to comment on...you mention it rusted out on the bottom??? I will have to assume you do not cover your grill? I have had plenty of burners burn through but don't understand rust. I cover my grill at all times when not in use and give it a full cleaning at least 3-4 times each year. Weber or cheaper model- cover it and clean it.

I got 31 years out of my last Weber. That’s correct, 31 years. But then again I use natural gas as I grill a LOT.
It’s the propane that eats up your burners and causes most grill replacements.

I recently bought a 4 burner Weber and love it. That searing thingy is an add on that you don’t really need, just as a rotisserie is an unneeded extra IMO.

I grill year round, not everyday, but at least twice a week.

Anyone have experience with a grill that will stand up to oceanfront living. BIL has a home on Dune Rd in Hamtptons and has a stainless steel weber and the parts that are not stainless (support underneath) are rusting out. On his second Weber now and will have to replace soon

How about the Weber Spirit? $499 on Amazon (list $599)....
I have the smaller Weber. Pretty sure it’s the spirit. I live alone and it’s the perfect grill for cooking for one or two people. Cooks evenly and fast and looks really nice.

I have had 3 Weber grills since 1995! I got 10 solid years out of the first 2 and the Genesis grill I got 2 years ago is like new. I know there are new grills out there, but I'd go with the Weber if u can swing it!!!

yeah, I would be disappointed if it had to be replaced that soon.... mine is 27 years old, replaced flavor bars, and the grill plate you put the food on.... I consider these two things the same as when you have to get new tires on a car, necessary upkeep due to useage.

the only "problem" is that the electronic lighting
won't ignite it, once in a while, so I use a long match.... maybe once a month..... aside from that, it keeps cranking away

Big Green Egg blows them all away. I have one and I don't use my gas grill anymore.
If you want a pellet grill which is a little easier in the winter as you don't have to put in wood charcoal and light it etc. then go with a RecTec. It gets better reviews than the Traeger.

Only problem with Rec Tec is I've never seen one, don't know anyone that has one. I never go by online reviews alone. Most are fake anyway. Not sold in stores to check out.

I'll echo the Weber love here. As for Traeger, I would not recommend it as a main grill. Mine is fantastic when it works, but it's a pain to maintain and has electrical issues.

I didn't read through all posts here so I may be repeating what others have said. I bought a Weber Genesis grill 21 years ago and I have NEVER replaced a part. Three years ago received a top of the line Charbroil Professional grill as a gift (about a $500-$600 grill) so I moved the Weber to my shore house. I'm going to toss the Charbroil this summer and buy another Weber. Yes the extra $ is worth it. P.S. The original Weber is still going strong.

Good to read some mention the Weber Q grill. For small families this is a class leader. My wife and I use it mostly for grilled fish and chicken.

Although it’s portable I have cooked on it for 4 adults many times at RU tailgates and it handles it easily. Folds up and stores as well. A true winner.

Here’s a few accessories that work especially well w the Weber Q:

The problems with Traeger started when they moved from the US to China. That was right before they went into Costco, etc.

I have a Green Mountain Grill, which is very similar, but made in the USA and much better quality (like the original non-Chinese Traegers). It's 4 years old now and so far no issues. The only complaint is that it doesn't get as hot as most good gas grills so I mostly use it for smoking and other longer cooked meats/vegetables. I cook my steaks on a pan in my kitchen.
