How would you Gauge the other 18 years? Were we leaps and bounds better than them or were we marginally better than them? Like I said in my original post, put them in a P5 conference with a coach like Rhule then come back with the geriatrics crew and tell me who's the moron.

...so put us in the B1G again only this time Schiano stays in '12 if you want to play 'what if'. Seriously, it's obvious you hate Rutgers/ this is some sort of trolling account, just come clean.

Nobody here really gives a crap about Temple except for guys like the OP who gets his nuts off by starting stupid threads to get a rise out of others here.
Nobody in Philadelphia cares about Temple. Their recruiting class was even worse than Uconn's and not even on the Rivals charts so the recruits don't care either. They're one of the all-time worst football programs in the history of the game and the only school to ever get kicked out of a league because they were so un-competitive.
Now go back to your board and start another thread about how you would rather compete against Uconn, and Tulsa in front of 5,000 fans in your rented stadium.

This is the post that should have ended the thread.

3 pages? Guess we really are that bored.

Meanwhile, there is a great Q&A with Chris Ash thread that has like 15 replies. This board loves negativity.

If temple was in the ACC they would be a force to be reckoned with due to their commitment to big-time sports. I believe Rhule made a big mistake leaving Temple.
Rhule, who is about 40 years old with small kids, got a guaranteed $42 million to take the Baylor job. If he doesn't win a game for seven years (and I think he'll do well, just for the record), he's still set for life. He loved Temple and Philly, but he would've been nuts to turn down that offer.

But he still in Waco Texas for those seven years. $42 million can buy a lot of antidepressants.

Yeah, that money doesn't come easily, that's for sure. It'll be well-earned. But he'll have it in pocket by the time he's 46 years old, and never has to look back.

Got to admit, when RU joined the B1G, never expected the program to sink into the abyss. The rise of Temple since then, only magnifies the extent of the ineptitude of RU previous athletic administration. It is still so hard to believe how bad we blew the opportunity of a lifetime.
Two decisions a sealed our fate for a possible generation of... (no comment).

1. GS bringing in the Delaware OC to implement the spread after we did very well with the Pro under Teel and HAD BLUE CHIP DROP BACK PASSER SAVAGE - the program relied on the undersized 1AA kid there on out. Sad.

2. Pernetti looking short term to hold a recruiting class together in hiring a life time position coach - and we got position coach results - The worst beating in B1G history.

Temple will never surpass for the simple fact the B1G will gladly use us for TV money and HS talent.

Sounds like you are with that "what if" question.
From 2007 to 2011 the Owls had a winning record ( except for 2008) in the MAC
even if that was a good mid major conference it was a far cry from being the type of
competition Rutgers faced in the Big East in which ( except for 2010) had winning records those same years.

Just because RU FB was run into the ground from what it was before , don't try to act like Temple was equivalent or better than RU FB was under Schiano and Schiano's game-day coaching sometimes left something to be desired.
Temple had two great years under Rhule out of 4 and he deserves all the credit in the world, but don't act like just because he had those 2 years Temple was better than Rutgers for a long time, because you look like a fool if you try to make a claim like that.

I'm not trying to say they were better or worse. All I'm saying is that under similar circumstances (conferences, coaches etc. etc.) we are one of the same.

Doesn't it bother RU fans so many of the players Temple has had success with are from New Jersey and didn't receive any interest from RU

Only to fans that miss the point that Rutgers and almost all other P5 teams didn't have interest. Other than that, your question makes no sense.

There was more to it than that - Pernetti was hamstrung by the administration in how much he could offer.

I see why it doesn't make sense. Apparently failing to recognize talent in your own state while chasing players who will leave for greener B1G pastures escapes you. Good, stay that way....

The ONE thing Flood was pretty good at was getting solid under the radar guys. There are always guys that programs miss on. This happens all the time. I'm not sure what to tell you.

I really hope your are being sarcastic with this post...the reason the talent level on the current roster is border line power 5 now is BECAUSE of Elmer Flood recruiting.

...this dude seems to think TU's bulletproof or something...I think you're about to find out the hard way that most people saw Rhule (building off Golden) as the reason for your recent success, not something intrinsic to your program...a lot of '17 recruits certainly seemed to think so. Time will tell all things.

Not at all if you understand what I just said. I didn't say he was good at recruiting, I said he was good at finding under rated guys. You just can't win in the B1G with all under the radar guys.

not one of the same under any circumstance...and that is not even trying to knock Temple

If the board is conceeding the two strong years under Rhule, then Temple was better than RU for 7 of the last 20 years. When in the same circumstances
'I'm not trying to say they were better or worse. All I'm saying is that under similar circumstances (conferences, coaches etc. etc.) we are one of the same." Temple and RU were very similar teams. Look at the series results from 97-02, when both schools were in the BigEast and you will see Temple had a 5-1 record against RU.

What about the years before or after? Not saying you may not have a point but that's pretty selective logic.

I just looked at the arbitrary 20 year time period that was brought up by another. If you look before that time there was a run of RU victories. My point is that RU is also a newcomer to the "Big Stage" and too many people forget that. Prior to a few good years in a watered down BigEast after Miami/VT/BC left, RU hasn't been relevant nationally in modern football.

People on this board expect the team to get to the middle of the Big10 pack immediately when the program might have had a handful of seasons ever that would put them competing with the middle of the Big10 pack. Even the 2005-2006 teams would have been close to middle of the pack in one of the Power 5 conferences. The talent is there to be had, but RU has a long way to go before achieving the success that some feel should be a given.

I agree with your first paragraph but I was talking about that 6-year window you had initially identified. Other than that some fair points all-around.

I have a secret for you, 2006 team was in a BCS conference and ended up ranked 12. One WTF game and one heartbreaker who had everything go wrong to benefit the national ranked 10, WVU. Also beat the number 6 ranked L'Ville.
And you think that team was just a middle of the pack P5 type team? WTF you drinking man?
And also very hard to take a 20 year period and compare a BCS conference team and a MAAC team during many of those years. Granted, the first period we were in the BE up until 2004, the only team close to as bad as us was Temple.

And most of the B1G west. But that isn't our division.
But let's be honest, how many games would Temple have won the last 3 years in the B1G.

They would've beat us. They actually did beat Penn State. They would've beat Purdue. They could've hung with Illinois, Maryland and Indiana.

Not going to disagree but keep in mind, as we found out, playing in the B1G E is not individual games at a time it is a long grind with no break. Does Temple beat PSU last year if they just had Mich, OSU and Neb the previous 3 weeks?

Serious question for the Temple guys...what is your expectation this year? You obviously did have some very good careers but some under the radar guys but most of those guys just ended up on NFL rosters. You don't have your HC who is very good. I don't follow your roster at all but would like an honest opinion. thx

How did Temple football surpass us? Temple had 3 players drafted and 6 players sign free agent contracts. If we played Temple last year, I think they would've beat us. We have way more support and better facilities than Temple in every single way. I don't get how Maryland and Temple had better programs than we did last year.

I don't know. Probably not. Our schedule was brutal. But if we were in the AAC, we would've went to a bowl game. However, I still think Temple fielded a better team than we did last year.

There is no disputing that they would have beaten us last year. Not so sure we would have gone bowling in the ACC last year, unless 5-7 gets you in and that is taking 2 cupcakes into consideration.

That fact that we are comparing RU to Temple speaks to the almost criminal ineptitude of the Rutgers Athletic department since the late 1970s.
