Hope he gets it. Been an NBA assistant for quite some time. I think hell immediately be able to recruit the big guys G-Town is so well known for having. Get some strong x & o guys behind him and hell do just fine.

Do college kids today even know who Patrick Ewing is? I know he has been an assistant in the NBA for a while but that does not necessarily translate to being a college coach with the added importance of recruiting. Could be a home run or it could be a remake of Eddie Jordan.

At least Eddie had HC experience.

GTown is screwing up royally. First they fire the coach and had no plan for a successor other than throwing out a few names who immediately expressed no interest. Now they're going to make an emotional hire to harken back to the BE "glory days" despite the fact the Ewing has zero experience as a HC or as a college coach. I don't see it ending well for GTown here. Of all the CYOs, they're the one I hate the least since at least they are a very good school.

Ewing is one of the greatest players of all time. He doesn't belong in the same sentence as Eddie Jordan.

Ewing also has paid his dues for a while now as an assistant when some players get coaching jobs much quicker. I would love to see him get a head coaching job but I always thought it would be in the NBA

The fact that Ewing is one of the greatest players of all time means he is less likely to be a good head coach based on past history. Great players who become great coaches is atypical.

from a name recognition standpoint i think he's significantly more recognizable than a chris mullin and obviously he's in another atmosphere relative to an eddie jordan. As others mentioned that doesn't equate to a great college coach but should help in recruiting.

It's a mess down there for sure.

The john Thompson faction of the school making it hard for any serious coach to consider them.

Ewing will appease to the john Thompson faction but the school needs to cut bait with that.

Gotta imagine Ewing will resonate on the recruiting trail, can he find the right assistant coaches to help reshape the roster the way he wants to....If this doesn't sell tickets and give them a boost, GTown is in longer term trouble....they tried to give away 3.8M a year and had people turning them down.

I would think Eddie Jordan part 2.

This move more than likely is a bad move for GTown. Georgetown will need to have some great college recruiters and coaches on staff or else Ewing will have the same problems most pro to college coaches have.

Ewing is higher profile than Jordan. He should be able to attract some good recruiting assistants.

His name and resume alone should be able to lock up some top recruits (especially big men)

plus if he still has a relationship with a sneaker brand they may push some kids his way.

who knows may work out but this was a sentimental hiring with a side of hoping to increase ticket sales.
