Should "Higgins" be banned as a referee name?

I see Kentucky fans are none too happy with John Higgins. Anybody who saw the game care to comment?

Funny to me that when Tim Higgins came to the Court Club meeting, most in attendance came away thinking he was a great guy.

BTW, no relation.

My boy is friends with John's son from school(NU). He has been to their house a few times and said, while his dad is nice, he really don't GAF what the fans say. He has a cool man cave with stuff from reffing I guess. They liked to give his son a lot of ****. Ha

Higgins was an awesome Court Club guest and props to him for showing up and for BK for making it happen. The St John's BET game was a travesty but beyond that I think he got a bum rap. Jim Burr and John Cahill can suck it though.

Kentucky basketball is everything that is wrong with college basketball. Frankly, you could've said that for the last 60+ years.

When I finished playing bball, I had no interest in coaching however, I dabbled in refereeing recreation leagues. I had no clue how really hard it was. Without the advantage of a good clinic, I was doomed. But I was so bad that my whistle and my mind were on different time zones. It's amazing how well they do percentage wise. Every ref makes a tough call now and then but percentage wise - they are really good. I have a lot of respect for both Coaches and Referees. Good or bad they have a very tough job.

As someone that was technically neutral I saw nothing to complain about ref-wise in that game which is just another reason to blast Calipari for being a total classless jerk by complaining about the officiating. Everyone knows UK fans are mental and he just added fuel to the irrational fire.

He must have received his new AMEX card the day before, and thought he was Coach K.

My buddy has been a HS ref for decades, did some college along the way. Early in his career (after some experience and clinic training) a ref allied in sick for a varsity game, he was asked if he wanted to sub, which would be his first varsity game. He said sure, asked the other ref if he had any advice. " let them play, get a game flow going". At some point there's going to be a foul, and what we whistle draws the line. If stupid stuff is going on, whistle it, but, for the most part, let them play, keep them within parameters.

Now, years later, he said the refs are responsible for keeping peace and control in the gym. One game there was a home crowd that was out of control, refs call a time out, asked a cop on duty to calm the fans down. He went up there and became part of the action. They called time out (again), told the AD if he didn't reel in the crowd, they (the refs) are leaving, and the AD would have to their report to the county/state sports commission.
Not an easy job, certainly helps if you have some skills, and can be fortunate to have a good mentor when starting out.

tim Higgins ...when you get past his BS showmanship....actually was a pretty good ref

Jim Burr used to always tick me off becayse he made calls on anticipation of contact because he WAS always out of position to MAKE the call from the right spot.

Don't get me started on Cahill....

Basically these guys should be nameless out there - for the most part a majority of them are (Higgy, Burr, Valentine not so much).

Fans think all refs suck. They are trained and conditioned to ignore the outside noise and to not GAF what people say.

I know people at my work don't like all the calls I make either...LOL!

Teddy Valentine is the one who needs to find a different hobby. He will never learn that the game is not about him.

I was a season ticket holder for 18 years with a few friends. Whenever we saw Tim Higgins was reffing we'd look at each other and say "We're not getting any calls tonight".

I just want to watch one game that both TV Ted Valentine and King Karl Hess are both officiating. I love watching them work.

My daughter is a UK grad but I still think that Calipari is an ***. As said earlier he showcases all that is wrong with college sports.
