I believe he is from Far Rockaway, NY but I thought he was playing for St. James which I thought was in Baltimore but I might be wrong. I think Xavier was after him very hard.

I like Rutgers chances based on schools mentioned.A player with that size would be a immediate help at the power forward position.Watching how this recruiting turns out for this player could be a good indicator if Rutgers actually is making progress in closing the deal on a 4 star player.Recruiting players against perceived elite programs like Kentucky,Duke and Villanova would be far more difficult.

Maybe he plays on the same AAU team as Doucoure? Yeah...he's a Cardinals forward...Here's the Zags quote:

“Isaiah Mucius,” Doucoure said of the 6-7 PSA Cardinals small forward who holds offers from Rutgers, Xavier, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Wake Forest, among others. “I’m trying to make him come.”

Mucius is a very good player. Can play either forward position, although in college better suited to the power forward role. Exactly the level of player that would improve our overall talent, and is someone we have a realistic chance at obtaining.

Of additional significance is the ability to develop a relationship with the PSA Cardinals. Excellent AAU program with a ton of talent. It is a concrete sign that power players at the local high school/AAU level are taking the current RU staff seriously.

There is a long way to go and there will be more suitors that are stronger and more established programs. We have a legit shot.

From the videos I can see a little Hollis Copeland in his game.

My concern is that the longer the recruiting process continues the more likely a elite school will come in and cherry pick another top tier recruit from Rutgers.Pikiell and staff need a all out blitz to win the recruiting battle similar to Vitale with Sellers. There is no reward coming in second in recruiting.

The key is getting an unofficial visit immediately after the season has ended and we have his HS teammate lined up already....it doesn't mean we will land this kid, but step one is to offer and then step two is to line up an unofficial visit to pitch how the new facility will look once these prospects arrive.

Agree....Pikiell and staff have a good pitch to sell to 2018 recruits.....a competitive program offering playing time and a brand new state of the art Practice Facility that will be completed by June of 2019..... about 10 months after the 2018 recruits get on campus in the summer of 2018.

I gotta believe that recruits love Brand New Facilities.

If we add Mucius to Doucoure that would be 2 4 star recruits which would make it that much easier to land the 3rd and 4th. Let's get the recruiting momentum rolling!

How early would we expect 2018 kids to commit? Im assuming that as soon as we hear about the transfers for next season and assess the open scholarships, we might start to get some 2018 activity at the same time as we are contemplating what to do about jucos. Grad transfers with one year are a better option but if there's a go to scorer from the Juco ranks with two years of eligibility; we might have to decide to take him over waiting for a. 2018 kid who could be a core player? Maybe that's where the professional pressure comes into play and a kid has to decide or we move on.

Hopefully the mods or some others with knowledge can try to update more on these kids as they are getting closer to deciding? I realize that may not happen as Doucoure kind of came out of nowhere with his announcement?

The early signing period is November. Right now it's all about landing visits for RU and hopefully land some guys in the summer or a little sooner.

Espn insider write up on Mucius below.

ESPN Analyst
Updated 01/25/2017

Strengths:
The strongest accent in any discussion of Isaiah's strengths at this time falls on Isaiah's potential. What that potential is now is a young, 6'8, uber-athletic post who gets off his feet quicker than quick, attacks the rim at both ends (there is a 'tip dunk' etched in memory) and can really transition from offense to defense. Length and ample vertical make Isaiah a probable goaltender at the basket.

Weaknesses:
Simply, Isaiah is not there yet. 'There' being his presence on the floor at all times. He takes plays off on account of his youth, and the game is still going just a hair too quick for him - at times. At 180 pounds (tops) Isaiah will need to put on some good weight (i.e., strength) to counter the defenses' efforts to minimize his considerable athleticism. Skills aren't far off, but again, not yet ready for prime-time.

Bottom Line:
Isaiah's potential is so high, that, as noted above, though he is not yet ready for prime time, When he is, look out. Isaiah has the skill base and the obvious athletic ability to get any college coach's attention. Look for him to be very highly recruited by the Spring of 2017.

Zay hmu today and I asked him a few questions. Btw, he's from East Patchoug, NY which is in Long Island. His school, St. James is in Hagerstown, MD which is out in the Maryland panhandle.

Below is what he told me via text message:

Overall thoughts on the visit...

Visit was good. First time ever being on their campus. Coach Pikell is a very energetic coach and I really like his energy that his gives off.

On going into the RAC...

Yeah it was really nice.

On the new practice facility...

Yeah they definitely talked to me about it. And it looks really nice.

On the NCAA Tournament...

I think Duke has a good chance at winning it
