I think there is a good amount of fan base still waiting to be sold on Ash..When Steve B. comes out and makes a reference to the possibility of current staff not respecting what was built during the Schiano era here,it strikes a nerve and creates some doubt about the future, for me it did..Is it true what he said? nobody knows and the non response from current staff dosent help.

The only place it "strikes a nerve" is RIGHT HERE. Literally.

What he said isn't accurate as there are already 2 examples of this being allowed posted above:

Pat White went to WVU's pro day 4 years after being drafted.

Holy Spirit (NJ) alum William Green was a 1st round draft pick in 2002 and played 4 years for the Cleveland Browns. He attempted a comeback in 2008 and participated at his alma mater Boston College's pro day that year.

Doesn't matter as there's no such rule.

You do realize it is quite possible that the "rules" have changed since 2002, right?

Attending a college pro day after such a long time is still the exception rather than the rule.

RU is probably spending $$$$ on legal advice right now to craft a reply. Timing is important too.

As for SB, good for him. First thing you learn in sales is, if they say No, don't quit. In person works better than over the phone. He did cross the line with the Twitter blast. Need to keep it In House.

Am curious about the details though.

Yup, but no one has provided the rule or any support to the contrary, so all we have are those 2 examples. And Pat White was 2013.

Of course but that's not the issue. The issue is whether there's a specific rule prohibiting it, as many claimed, but there doesn't appear to be, so then, it's up to the school... & possibly the NFL after the school approves, as we saw above that Santos wasn't allowed by the NFL due to him not attending the school or living within 30 miles of it.

College Pro-Day is not an open try-out ...

The NFL has certain rules regarding college Pro Days - the NFL has certain things that are not up for debate - not optional or open to variation by the individual institution hosting the 2017 Pro Day - there is documentation that must be put together - and it must conform to the NFL's requirements - and those requirements reflect the input / influences of the collective bargaining agreement / the various player safety rules / and probably dozens of other matters.... if you are a football player - but your credentials are not in order - and/or don't match the NFL's specs - the NFL team will not talk to you.

and the requirements appear to have evolved over the years - especially as -
"The National Football League launched the NFL Regional/Super Regional Combines program in 2012 to serve as a supplement to the League’s National Scouting Combine. They are designed to provide an opportunity for participants to display their pro potential."

"Participation in the NFL Regional Combine Series is limited to players who are eligible for the 2017 Draft who played college football during the 2016 season with no remaining NCAA eligibility. The NFL Regional Combine Series is not open to players who are NFL free agents (players that have been eligible for a previous NFL Draft). The cost to participate in the NFL Regional Combines is $160."
source:https://www.nflregionalcombines.com/

There is also another 800 pound gorilla involved in some aspects of "Pro-Day" - the NCAA - and there are requirements that they have as well

There is ZERO question that the NCAA and the NFL have a list of "THOU SHALL" & "THOU SHALL NOT"s .... items not up for discussion not open for debate
and then beyond that -
it seems that the NFL may also have some items along the lines of - "This is how we would like the day to run ..." ... there may instances where the NFL guys tell a school - "we have to be in & out in about the shortest amount of time possible - so let's not let things run long" -

Have not seen any a hard & fast specific set of restrictions regarding College Pro Days - but it is clear that they have to conform to many NFL rules - but what wiggle room a local college / university may have regarding participation is not clear - and something that may have happened in 2009 or 2013 does not automatically mean it is an option in 2017.

limited to players who are eligible for the 2017 Draft is frequently mentioned - and that would still allow certain players from a prior year if they never entered the NFL

Hard to see how a Free Agent with NFL playing time like Beauharnais could get to participate - and if he could - why not Free Agent Kenny Brit?

Bottom line - there are unknowns - so to haul off and emphatically blame it all on Ash is wrong.

Good find. Thank you.

Pat White participated in 2013, after the new 2012 regional combines started, so this rule requiring same year draft eligibility & prohibiting free agents is either from after that or there was an exception. Nonetheless, if Rutgers told him that the NFL prohibited him from participating, then why would he rant & rip us on social media, & what's the deal with this UCONN player? Doesn't seem like he was told there's an NFL rule prohibiting it.

Basically, we have Steve B.'s rendition of what transpired through hate filled eyes, and 165+ responses that are completely all over the map. There are too many possibilities from each side of the story. The only thing I know for sure, is Steve's social media response was pretty childish and not something I would expect from a 25ish year old adult and supposed ambassador to the football program. Until I see some more information, which is not so biased, there is no way to tell who is right or wrong.

I also find it hard to believe The Star Ledger has not picked up on this yet and ran an article. Most of them live for crap like this.
Makes me think there isn't much to this story other than someone who wouldn't take no for an answer (at least twice) and had an online tantrum.

I will say I am backing the coach of this program who has changed the attitude and culture of a sinking ship, brought in a solid recruiting class (with little to sell to it), and has them pointed in the right direction.

"anthonyws2Ncaa rules do not allow participation in pro days either after 2 years post graduation or after being drafted. Call your agent he should know these things. And you signed a waiver to allow your image to be used by the school"

This has been debunked repeatedly. And considering his reaction, I highly doubt it was the NFL's decision. And the poster who said he would always back the university over the player, shame on you. Art Briles would be proud.

No it has not. Maybe exceptions were made in the past to allow someone drafted to return. Maybe he did not receive an exception. Each case was different. So we really don't know. All I know is that I would not air dirty laundry over social media, and I would work it out man to man with Coach Ash or Pat Hobbs.
What does Art Briles have to do with this?

so sad that our "fans" need to attack before due consideration--same old stuff about eating our own

By "attack", you mean criticize the actions of someone who went on a Twitter rampage attacking the current football program?

I'm sorry, Steve was a great player, but anyone who says "Rutgers football program died with the chop" is looking to get taken to the woodshed.

He really should have been a bit more mature about this and instead of throwing a public temper tantrum, instead talk to the AD directly and discuss in private. Did he really think that RU would want to purposely give a middle finger to one of the program's alumni? All it does is make both parties look bad to the public - he comes off like a jackass, which doesn't help his case in terms of trying to get another NFL gig; and he paints Rutgers in a negative light when they are also trying to make a comeback in the public perception.

To recap, Beauharnais is four years out. Rutgers policy allows those two years out or less to participate in Rutgers Pro Day. Beauharnais missed his chance, threw a social media tantrum, threatened to sue the school, and summoned his buddy Will Gilkinson to help get him into Pro Day. Steve calls it a misunderstanding but won't rule out the possibility of a lawsuit to remove his likeness in the Hale Center. I liked him as a college player, but not anymore if this is true. What a disrespectful SOB. They should have a pacifier challenge at Pro Day for this big baby. Maybe he can cry his way into the NFL with another stunt like this. What a waste of my time reading this crap.

Beauharnais told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday that the situation was a "misunderstanding" and that he will be allowed to use Rutgers' practice bubble Friday after Pro Day to hold a private workout for interested scouts.

"Honestly, it was a big misunderstanding," said Beauharnais, a 2013 NFL Draft seventh-round pick who played a total of five games with the New England Patriots and Washington Redskins during the 2013-14 seasons. "It was just a lack of communication basically between myself and Rutgers."

Asked if he plans to stick to the threat after the compromise, Beauharnais said it required further consideration.

"I haven't really thought it through yet," Beauharnais said. "It's unfortunate it had to come to this. I wish nothing but the best for Rutgers. I want nothing but the best for Rutgers. I'm not a guy that I hope they do bad because we had a misunderstanding. That's not me. That'll never be me."
------------
If I were in his shoes, I would apologize for going off on social media and not just working it out.

In a civilized society, we can't have people ripping other people or institutions via rants on social media.

while Steve B did throw a over the top waambulance over this..it would have been nice for Ash and Hobbs to say ex players are allways welcome back to the program.

The NFL and NCAA do not have policies on Pro Day eligibility

How do most schools handle this? I am not talking about the few special cases that have already been discussed.
