LOL at "typical Rutgers" and "I wish we hired Fleck" comments. You're going to these extremes after one former player posts a heated social media post? So much speculation. I think we all loved Steve's game, but this is certainly a peculiar situation. For now, I will give Rutgers the benefit of the doubt regarding a player who was (a) drafted (b) played in the NFL and (c) played at RU 4 years ago.

Passes are not just given out to letter winners. After a certain amount of years out of school, you have to purchase a ticket. And if the ex player wants to be on the sideline or I guess maybe the lounge now, you pay a yearly fee. Though, the staff will still invite ex players for individual games at times.
With that said, I don't know the pro day rules but this staff has been welcoming to past players. Where is everyone getting this crap from?

Welcome to the internet and the world of social media. This board is its own worst enemy at times, too. People go off, having read only half the thread and form opinions. Then may never bother to, or be able to, get back to reading further clarifications (or getting the real or final scoop from an alternative source), and relay what they heard to friends, associates at the proverbial water cooler. Those other folks go off half or fully misinformed and form opinions one way or the other (Rutgers screwed up OR Steve B is in the wrong). Either way, the crap continues to flow downhill.

I think there is a good amount of fan base still waiting to be sold on Ash..When Steve B. comes out and makes a reference to the possibility of current staff not respecting what was built during the Schiano era here,it strikes a nerve and creates some doubt about the future, for me it did..Is it true what he said? nobody knows and the non response from current staff dosent help.

I'm not spinning ****. I'm basing my comments off of what I am reading here and I "read" what SB wrote. So? Sounds like he showed up out of the blue and is pissed because he wasn't allowed to participate. Okay.
Here is what SB wrote "But Rutgers says NO to me I drive 45mins to hopefully plead my case and they told thier asistant to tell me NO and tell me to leave". He called first and they said no. He then drives down to plead his case in person. He didn't just show up out of the blue.

Ash better win on the field.

Ash isn't the one that didn't respect what schiano built, flood is the one who didn't respect it. In Floods 4 seasons at the head of the program he took us back 12 years! We had more scandals in floods 4 years than we had in all of schianos years and it's not even close. I don't blame Ash for wanting to start over. What schiano built WAS something special but flood destroyed it. Now no one has answered the question that i have asked over and over and that is if there was a deadline where players and ex players who want to participate in the pro day had to register by. If there was and steve didn't meet the deadline then he has no one to blame but himself. No one will know the full story until rutgers releases a statement.

He called and was told no, it was his choice to drive to hear the same response.

sounds like someone feels they are entitled and doesn't like hearing the word "NO" Why drive down and embarrass yourself and make it uncomfortable for everyone involved?

If you are out of school for 5 years and are looking to make a roster spot, isn't that what you have an agent for? Besides, I would guess the chances of making the NFL 5 years later are probably nill.

yes, just trying to dispel the notion that he was turned away for showing up out of the blue. RU DIDN't want him there. Poor job by the staff. His appearance would not have ruin other prospects chances.

I don't think Steve B is being singled out, but he should have not driven to the Pro Day without speaking to someone first. The scouts are really there to see certain players that are on the radar screen for the draft or for free agent contracts and maybe one or two guys can find their way onto someone's list because they are freak athletes.

If you actually read what he wrote on Twitter he said he contacted them and they said no so he decided to drive down yesterday ( 5 days before the actual pro day) to plead his case in person.

As far as Ash wanting to limit the number of players that only the scouts are interested in then why is Kaiwan Lewis participating? He attended 2 pro days last year (Rutgers and South Carolina) and ran a 4.95 40 at both. Offensive Lineman run faster than that. This kid has zero chance of making it in the NFL. If Ash is going to allow this kid that was a one year rental to participate then he should allow a kid like Steve B, who did a lot more for the program.

From the Indiana game where the 2006 team was honored.

From left to right on the recruiting lounge deck: JJ Jennings, Manny Collins, Mitar Rudonovic

A wider angle of the whole deck. They are outdoors and indoors and have food.

and yes, somehow I have photos of everything. you just never know when they may come in handy

@BlockR I don't think recruits are allowed to stay on the deck or in the lounge during the game. that is only for pre-game then they go to seats in the stadium.

I am sure someone here will correct me if I am wrong.

If the tweet wasn't published here nobody would even know about this. I played golf with a player who was on a NFL roster and was out of the league for 3 years. The entire round he kept talking about his comeback as he drank beer and chewed tobacco, he never made it back. Shocking!

Can we at least get the other side of the story before we hammer RU FB ?

Geez, I thought that people on this Board were actually RU FB fans.

I will form an opinion after I read RU's response.

Does anyone actually think that we currently have all the facts ? If so, really ?

True. I'd hate to think there's not a logical explanation for this. I hope there's no intentional policy to turn a cold shoulder to former players. Let's also take into consideration any previously expressed opinions of Ash by other former players. This is the first time I've heard anything like this.

Pro Day participation rules are set by the NFL, not by the universities/colleges holding them. Steve could have gone and hung out, but he wanted to participate, didn't he? In order to do so, based on what I've read, a player is required to declare for the draft. Steve B. is not draft eligible, being an NFL free agent and having been drafted already.

If what you say is accurate, it's a really bad look for Steve B to react the way he did. Social media is a *****. Note how many people have already judged and reacted based mainly on his tweet. This may just be a big misunderstanding.

I can't believe the current RU leadership would be so stupid as to purposely dis him that way. Waiting for further explanation before I judge anyone on either side of this.

Right. The apparent inconsistencies and speculation are what have me really wan ting an explanation from the AD.
I want an explanation from Steve. He's obviously leaving out details. Do you really think the staff wouldn't tell him why he couldn't participate?

Of course not, but I think Steve has already told us what he wants us to know. I don't think he's going to say anything that doesn't support his position. I want to hear the other side of this story.

They were not drafted

And they are only one year out of school. I don't see them being invited and Steve not being invited, as necessarily inconsistent.

My post was about whether Ash is turning his back on former players.

What he said isn't accurate as there are already 2 examples of this being allowed posted above:

Pat White went to WVU's pro day 4 years after being drafted.

Holy Spirit (NJ) alum William Green was a 1st round draft pick in 2002 and played 4 years for the Cleveland Browns. He attempted a comeback in 2008 and participated at his alma mater Boston College's pro day that year.

They were not drafted
Doesn't matter as there's no such rule.
