If that is true, he has every right to be pissed off. But I don't know what the process is. He graduated 4 years ago. How long do they let former players keep coming back for Pro Day. I'm sure there's a ton of former players who would like to participate. You have to cut it off somewhere. But they are letting Paul James participate so I'm a little confused.
Wow - not entirely sure what's going on but Rutgers really should respond to this to clear the air. Bad look for them - need to take care of our loyal sons.
Is there something about playing in the NFL for 2 years that would keep him out? Seems unlikely since his anger is directed at RU.
Probably a dumb young staffer making a bad decision.
It's not going to help with recruiting to treat former players like trash. I know Ash wanted to start a new thing here but I actually think it was not smart to get rid of the keep chopping mantra. It was something that was unique to Rutgers that the kids like. It would be like Miami hiring a new coach and getting rid of the smoke. Or Notre Dame getting rid of play like a champion sign. Granted Keep Chopping wasn't anywhere near that level but we can't keep rebranding ourselves every 4 years. And we can't forget about the players who played here who were actually good.
Sounds like he is getting the "Pelini" treatment. Pelini wouldn't let certain players to have access to anything with the football program if he thought they were to connected to an old coach. After a while he pretty much banned all former players from the facilities and they were not given passes to games or allowed to attend practices. Most are coming back now with Riley. It didn't help Bo when it came time for the retain/fire debate.
Edit: At least the former players didn't hold it against the program. Once the people who didn't want them around were gone they all came back.

Huge difference between Steve and PJ or Kaiwan. They have only been out one year, like you said they have to cut it off at some point.

Unless there is some kind of NFL/NCAA rule against this, I would think Hobbs and/or Ash have heard about this uproar by now and there will be a major about face.

I know first hand from past players from the Burns era that Dick Anderson did the same thing during his run as head coach -Past players were just no longer welcomed - It took years (and ultimately Schiano policies) before some of those guys got back in the fold. This needs immediate attention from Hobbs/Ash.
I have heard Ash talk about keeping alums in the fold, so not sure that's the problem here. We have seen other alums around the program.

Rutgers always has this special penchant for embarrassing itself. It really is extraordinary to watch play out over and over. But yeah Stevie B is way out of line going public like that right off the bat. Pretty low class move to denigrate all the hard-working players where they are now saying the program died when he left how convenient. So this is a lose-lose proposition. Take down all his pictures for all I care. No one is visiting the Hale Center to see the Glorious Steve beaurnais memorabilia, and I'm sure if he stops donating to the program, that will cost Rutgers exactly $0.
Pro Day participation rules are set by the NFL, not by the universities/colleges holding them. Steve could have gone and hung out, but he wanted to participate, didn't he? In order to do so, based on what I've read, a player is required to declare for the draft. Steve B. is not draft eligible, being an NFL free agent and having been drafted already.

The Hale Center used to be open for a few hours before a game, NOW? NOPE ! Another moronic move by the RU Athletic Dept or however made that decision. But raise prices and move conference games to Yankee Stadium.... Yeah, the suckers will really love that .
He agreed to it when it was just an unsigned idea or proposal.

Correct. Much more damage to back out of an agreement with a Conference partner then to play 1 game off campus, however.
Yup that's how I read it also. Finally someone posting clarification on the subject. Steve can ***** all he wants, but he's not eligible to participate. He can drive that 45 mins. back and watch if he'd like. He's way out of line and should read the rules his former employer has put in place. This is basically a local combine not an event for former NFL players and free agents to show their talents.
