Somehow I do not think this will work..those in the 100 level seem so damn stubborn
By stubborn, I assume you mean that we continue to show up game after game despite poor results and donate money to the program while others don't.

This has to be the worst publicized "black out" ever.

You can't forget things you don't know. This is the 1st I am hearing about this.

Yep. Pretty crappy job by the Athletic Dept in publicizing this. No mention in the season ticket package. Not mentioned on the schedule on ScarletKnights.com. You really have to be searching for this to realize it is a blackout game.

Doing blackout nights when you know attendance will be atrocious is just stupid.

well attendance is pretty bad all the time.. I mean they have been getting in the 5-6K range the last few home games but student attendance is spotty and those are the ones you want to show up for this promotion. Last game it was 80% empty at tipoff and only got maybe 65% full

I sit in section 112. On my way out the door this morning, I grabbed my red RU shirt to change into before the game. I then remembered it was the blackout game. However, I was so stubborn I just said the hell with it and kept on going.

Sooo tired of the whining about the people who sit in the 100's.

it was very poorly promoted. Its part of the reason I would prefer to have tickets instead of a swipe card because it serves as a reminder. They made some announcements last week and they send out stuff on social media but remember we have a very old fanbase so I am not sure that works so much for them. I hope they marketed to the students to come out in full force for at least one game this year.

Already grabbed my red tshirt on way to work this morning, not going back to the house just for that. Not like I'll be the only one in red. Guess I'm a bad fan.

I've always felt if you want a blackout type promotion to work you give out the shirts.

Also--as a long time season ticket holder in the dreaded 100s level(sec 103), I will be in a my work clothes because I'm so damn forgetful and don't have time to stop home.

agree...they need to give out the shirts...there was a promotion about 12 years back when RU played Notre Dame at the RAC and alternated the sections red and white, it really looked good and worked

That was a very good stripe out. But that was at least 12 years ago, when Rutgers was regularly selling out the RAC. There was a lot of student tradition then, and the RAC was always loud and tough.

Hopefully we are quickly back to the winning and crowds, but a lot of that student tradition has been lost, because there is not really a way for the next generation of students to learn what was done a dozen years ago.

and if I am not mistaken, it was one of the off years so the team was not good...like 12-15 and beat a good and possibly ranked Notre Dame. People forget we used to pack the RAC even with mediocre to bad records. The years of Fred Hill really nuked our fanbase and then went it came back for Rice it got nuked again and then was nuked again with Jordan. So 3 nuclear strikes have not left many of us standing

Hate to burst anyone's bubble about it not being well promoted, it's been posted on SK.com on the schedule since the season started

I don't see it

The stripe out was on Valentine's Day which makes it either Bannon's last year (we lost to ND) or Waters' first year (we beat ND).

It's in the details, it says Free headbands to first 500 fans/Blackout

Oh. I see it now. It is in white type against a light gray background, so it is barely visible. And you have to click on the "more" button for that game in the schedule to even get to that screen.

In my book, that qualifies as "not being well promoted".

It's also been on the Promotions schedule on the website all season long

Again, sticking it on a page that most people never visit qualifies as "not being well promoted".

Anything that is hidden in fine print where no one looks, counts as "not being well promoted"

"Well Promoted" means repeated communications where fans don't have to dig to realize this is a blackout game.

I've received 7 emails from Rutgers Athletics in the past week. Only one of those emails (the Athletics weekly newsletter from last weekend) even mentioned that this was a blackout game, and that mention was in the 10th of 17 graphics on the page. That is not well promoted.

I disagree with you about the swipe cards - I love having one. But you are correct here. With football it is clear from the middle of August what the blackout game is. Apparently it has been on SK.com but you have to work to find it. Plus, as I season ticket holder, I haven't looked at the schedule on SK.com since I entered the games into my Google calendar. Bottom line, RU could have done a better job promoting this.

Our fanbase is old...Rutgers needs to blast them with older traditional methods...remember when they had this info on the posters and magnets they gave way...now all we get is a tiny logo of the team we are playing with no time listed or day of game...just the date and a stupid tiny logo

Two years ago for the blackout game against Michigan State they gave out t-shirts in the 100 level seats. My seats are in 214, but a friend gave me his tickets for that game and I sat in 116. Those of us who are season ticket holders in the 200 never get any of the perks.

this is true. they actually should give them to every season ticket holder

problem is that the free t shirts seem to only come in one size....XXXL...as if the school cannot order all small, mediums and larges

It's on the schedule on sk.com, but like every promotion, you have to click "more" to see it. CBSi leaves much to be desired in its web design.
