Hope Lehigh match will be on Saturday, but even if it's Friday, I'm going to be there! Our team is awesome this year, and all the wrestlers are much better than where they were in the beginning of the season, and better against the kids who beat them before. Good job to our coaches!

Just like last year, we seem to be wrestling our best late in the season. It will be a hell of a match and all RU wrestling fans need to make the easy drive up 78 West to Bethlehem and make our presence felt.

Tonight RU commit Shane Metzler of West Morris, nationally ranked about 16 and #2 in NJ will wrestle #1 in NJ, #6 Nationally Nicke Raimo in the District finals (top 3 advance to Regions). Should be interesting.

Raimo beat him in OT 10-5

Match was about an hour ago and Raimo got OW as a result

Who is replacing VT's HC now that he is leaving for ISU after the season? More importantly, can we flip Mehki Lewis?

I really miss the Star Ledger High School Wrestling Forum after it was discontinued last year. I haven't been able to find an alternative site where NJ HS wrestling fans gather. Last year Obrats suggested a twitter site (can't remember the name) but it was a closed site and each time I requested access I never was granted it. If anyone can suggest forum sites, it would be appreciated. Thanks

I agree. That site was the wild west sometimes, but it was still fun to follow and read.. Facebook has a site for NJ HS wrestling run by NJcom, but it's not as good.

https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=nj high school (njsiaa) wrestling

another NJ HS wrestling site:

Thanks for the suggestions. The second one was actually the site Obrats suggested. I will request access again and hope for different result.

Edit...I was allowed access within the hour of my request. Thanks again.

For whatever it is worth the flow wrestling article linked above says he has one year of eligibility left.
Lets do it then. Would do wonders if we get a one and done AA or NC at 197 for a rental. And if he causes any trouble we kick him to the curb.

Not sure it's worth pissing off Correnti, Mulligan and possibly the Bergen Catholic wrestling program.

Who are we after from BC for 2018 and beyond? They are doing what football's done for years...send their best guys elsewhere.

We currently have Mulligan, Grello and Pagano on from BC. I don't know IF we are recruiting anyone hard, but BC is one of the best programs in NJ and the USA. We need to keep that pipeline open and flowing. They have about 6 D1 kids every year.

Other than S Plainfield it's our best HS feeder program. Next year maybe 3 starters from BC

What if Downey RS and replaces Gravina at 184 instead in 2018-19?

Doesn't seem like Goodales style to bring in 'lack of character' guy. He took a chance w Camp, and although Camp had a checkered past , he was a good citizen here, he still didn't work out.
I just don't see it w this other guy.

Gonna have to figure something out for 184 after Gravina graduates. Can Pagano bulk up to 184 after next season? Maybe we bring in a grad transfer or JUCO?

Jaenzer comes in for 2018. I think Gravina wrestled at 165 as a RS frosh so maybe someone will grow into a 184 lber

Coaches are very confident that Gravina is going to get a 6th year. So in their eyes he is only a sophomore.

I wouldn't spend too much time thinking Downey may come here. I would say he is done wrestling at the D1 level.

Our coaches are great at developing good (pagano, gravina, van brill) Jersey kids. But, it is hard to improve unless we get kids that are top 3 nationally. They have done a great job with our only top 3 recruit (Ashnault). Imagine where we would be if we get the top recruits. There are only a few current Jersey kids that the top programs are looking at. Metzler is ok as a walk- on. Janzer is not high profile and lost both his tough matches this year. Glasgow will be good. Griffith is a good kid from BC & he committed to the west coast school. Kui and Cochran have potential & committed elsewhere. Glory is the real deal and if he comes here, could be the best RU wrestler ever. The media and alumni would love him and he would be set for life with career choices. He has many of options. This year Robinson has improved more that anyone. Imagine other schools are knocking on his door. Seems like we are saving money for the next two years when higher potential kids will be available. If we get them, we will be great. If not, we will remain a top 25 program at nationals.

That's why Im on board with bringing Downey as a transfer. If the top wrestlers won't commit here, maybe we have to bend the rules a bit to take the next step up. Roll the dice and see if he can win a NC here.

BigMatt-Bringing Downey here is idiotic!!!! RU wrestling has developed a culture of dedicated athletes living and training the correct way. Just curious how much you know about this kid? I will wait and then respond.
