Any thoughts on this car? My kids say is for soccer moms.

I have had a 5 series for a while but as I age, it is harder to get in and out (they sit so low to the ground).

I tried the 7- but it is too big.

I am a BMW guy, so thoughts on BMW appreciated.

Never saw the logic of dropping extra cash into a deprecating asset. Unless you are talking about a high end Porsche...

I don't get the X6. It's not an SUV, it's not a sedan, it's not a wagon. It's horrifyingly heavy and doesn't handle well.

If it were me, I'd stay away from it. If you need an SUV, then get an X5.

Hmm - I never would have labeled it as a soccer mom car, but I guess the kids know best.

It's a S_V with the U taken out because it provides absolutely no utility. That sloping roofline provides a lot of greenhouse without space. But maybe cargo space isn't important to you.

I have an X6 for a year (got the 6 cylinder, no need for the 8), love it. I've had a few BMW's over the years and this crossover almost drives like a sedan, great for up to 4 sets of golf clubs, drives beautifully and gets about 21mpg. I strongly recommend.

They really seem to be pushing the x3 lately. My 3 series is due for end of lease soon and they are all over me to get an x3. Seems like the x3 truck space is way too small for an suv.

Mercedes gla

I have a GLS don't like the smaller one. Don't really want an SUV. want a sedan like. But hate falling into my car.

I love the look of those as well. Hear nothing but bad things about audis as far as constantly breaking and being in the shops.

Not in my experience. We have two Audi's now, my 2013 Q5 and my wife's 2017 Q3. Her previous was Audi A4 Avant. Never has 1 had a day in the shop except for routine maintenance.

You hear incorrectly.

I've owned 4. My first - a 2005.5 A4 - was in the shop often enough that I ultimately traded out of it after a little less than two years. It was, however, the very first B7 A4 shipped to NJ and it suffered from being one of the first examples of an entirely new car. My 2010 A4 had no issues. My 2015 A3 has had no issues. My wife's new A4, so far, has had no issues.

When I was selling BMW- the X6 was by far my favorite one to drive unless you went into the M series and such. But with that said, it is a bulky drive and sucks bigtime in bad weather. (But when you are driving it, it really makes you feel like a real badass) lol

Screw the SUV - go for the 4 series convertible.. Sure you lose trunk space but its a lot of fun to drive. There is a vent that blows hot air on your neck built into the seat, plus heated seats and steering wheel so you can have the top down in winter. Doesn't help with the getting in and out problem since it is very low but we all have to make sacrifices.
When I got it, I bought my 2012 Lexus RX350 off lease for my daughter to drive. Since she is now at a college that doesn't allow cars until Junior year, I still have a tailgating vehicle

I would say that is well outside of the norm. I mean yeah, in the 80's and early 90's they had issues, but not in the last decade.

Can you expand upon the bad weather comment. Is is same better or worse than a 5 series. And why?

I always liked the X5... but i'm really intrigued by the Volvo XC 90 now. I love its style. Hope to look into it more to get a feel for quality.

I used to like the x6, went to a local bmw dealer this week. Was told x6 is a poor seller, poor back seat head room, poor rear storage,
Said the x5 is more suv and has more space

You went to a dealer and told them the car you liked and it was a poor selling model...sales person told you all of that to talk you out of it? He may not be there next week haha

I have a 2013 Audi A6 3.0. It has 56,000 miles on it and other than new tires and wiper blades and routine maintenance I have had no issues with the car.

Audi Q5 if you're not. Sweet ride w/3.0T
Yes.

I love the look of those as well. Hear nothing but bad things about audis as far as constantly breaking and being in the shops.
Agree with Real--you heard wrong wrt newer Audis.
Not in my experience. We have two Audi's now, my 2013 Q5 and my wife's 2017 Q3. Her previous was Audi A4 Avant. Never has 1 had a day in the shop except for routine maintenance.
Me too.

Yes.
On my second Q5. First one, 2011 2.0, went 50,000 miles. Not a single issue.
Second one 2014 Q5 TDI Premium Plus. At 54,000 miles. Not a single issue. Audi maintenance is unbelievably expensive, and now that I am out of warranty, I am going to a local garage, but still for a 55,000 mile service, I am going to pay $500. Dealer wanted $1100--but they have a fabulous espresso bar while you wait, making it worth the $$$.
My current Q5 is part of dieselgate. I am getting a total of $10,400 in payments from Audi and Bosch for the pain and suffering they caused me for their fooling the environmental authorities. Better yet, if they dont have a fix that the EPA and CARB approves by year end, they are buying my car back for $4,000 more than I paid for it.

Was surprised to see Audi is going to offer diesel vehicles again in 2018 after the dieselgate debacle. That said, still surprised at how few diesel vehicles are offered here in the US, and the premium charged for a diesel engine and for diesel fuel. Diesel gets a bad rap. I know the technical side of emissions fairly well, and diesel emit less CO and hydrocarbons than gasoline engines. They do emit a lot of NOX, but the newer SCR technology takes care of that. The torque and power on diesel engines is fabulous compared to the gasoline counterparts.

Actually went to look at the x3 then mentioned how I like the x6. Circle bmw barely stocks them and are slow sellers and he gave a few reasons.

You are absolutely correct. If you are going to buy a car in this category the cost of routine maintenance is going to be about three times what it would be for a Honda or Toyota. If you know that going in and want the car then it's easier to accept. My dealer charged $850 for the 55,000 mile service. Called my local mechanic who had taken care of our other cars for years just to get a quote and the price he gave was - $850.

Along with the Ford Flex and the Nissan Cube, probably one of the ugliest vehicles allowed to drive on the road. If you have to drive a beamer, go with the X5. But I would strongly suggest you take a look at the Q7. Only draw back for Q7 is that it is not easy to get into the third row seat - mechanical process to pull up second row to allow access. If you have little kids, it might be a deal breaker. However, that aside, everything about the Q7 is perfect. Versus the beamers, it's not close. It's Q7 by a landslide.

I like the X3 and don't find the trunk space prohibitive. But the only thing I need to put back there are my golf clubs. :) If I had kids around the house the X5 would probably be needed.

Some people are going to snort and object, but the maintenance on our Lincoln MKT is never more than $120. Maybe Lincolns (and Cadillacs) are not in the same category as Audi and BMW--have never really thought about it. But as we start to watch our $$ more closely with college tuition coming up in a couple of years, the maintenance issue with Audi gave be pause, and coupled with their dieselgate crap, caused me to reconsider if I want to own an Audi or any other Germn luxury brand again. For me, I could be just as happy in a domestic luxury (or perhaps Japanese luxury) vehicle, especially knowing that I will not be on the hook for an additional $1000-1500/year in routine maintenance fees.

My Audi salesman told me when I bought the car that the dealers do not make that much on sales, but they make lots of $$$ on maintenance and service.
