Over the next three years you give out 5, 4, 4. Of those ships 3, 2 and 2 have to be solid big ten players. That is. Nice seven man rotation. The other two or three rotation players can be role type players.
The issue with Rutgers moving forward is the gap in talent with the league competition just to catch up which isn't a static situation. They have the advantage because of the better won/loss record. Its been 26 years without 1 NCAA bid which is a very relevant stat in regard to getting this program moving in a positive direction.

The guys that don't pan out transfer (pushed out). That is how you have to do it if you want to play on the NCAAs.

I'm not positive on hoops if it's like football but the scholarships in the Big 10 have to be guaranteed for 4 years now. You can and it definitely happens to push players to leave but if they want to stay, unless they flunk out or rob a gas station, you can't cut them.

Wow! Whoever said that Eddie recruited well must have their head examined.

He got lucky with a high-risk player that teams backed away from and that's about it. Our classes can't entirely consist of "under the radar" kids and projects.

Unfotrutnaly, you have the win the get these kids so it's the "chicken and the egg".

A lot of people keep saying Pike develops players and just because a kid doesn't have stars and major offers doesn't mean he isn't a diamond in the rough. That's fine if the kid is a final piece of a recruiting class but it has to be the exception and not the norm.

The difference from Jordan is very evident because now we at least win the crappy OOC games but the gap between the rest of the B1G is obviously still there.

The rest of bottom of the B1G is recruiting players who are contributing immediately and they are winning games with them. We have to do the same.

The big guy we got is a start if he re-classifies. The JUCO PG we just got just seems like more of the same. I'm hopping we get at least one freshman stud who can contribute next year and a couple players transfer out to free up some scholorships.

We need to start getting actual B1G players. Right now I'm not sure anyone other than Sanders would contribute much on any other B1G team.

Let's get one thing straight. Our OOC schedule is way worse than anything Jordan had. A comparison of OOC records is not fair.

To the eye yes we look much better. Our best win is still DePaul #181. Pikiell hasn't won a game yet vs top 180.

You are correct. OOC is absolute garbage but at least we win them now. Jordan was an absolute joke compared to PIkiel in so many ways.
See that is simply not true. Jordan won games last year against the same competition that Pikiel beat. If you gave Eddie 5 more cream puff out of conference games like Pikiel had Eddie might have went 11-2 last year OOC WITH A WORSE TEAM due to injuries and less experience. I like Pikiel but fans have jumped the gun on his his coaching prowess. Which is fine because we all want to believe. I am not trying to say Eddie and Pikiel are the same, but what I am saying is a great coach vs a poor coach might have a two or three game affect on a season with the same roster. Coach K wasn't taking last years team/season to 15 wins. If Coach K had to coach last years team with the injuries we would have won 9 or 10 games instead of 7.

Didn't realize they were playing at The Palestra. Ever go to a game there? It's great. Really great. I've seen a couple Big 5 games there that were awesome. Took my daughter when Rutgers/Mike Rice played St. Joe's there. Cheesesteaks and Palestra basketball is a great day.
Saw Rutgers beat a Joe Jellybean Bryant led LaSalle team in 1975. ( I had to check google to see who won - I don't know how so many on this board remember details from these games.)
Article in the NY Times stated Rutgers was led by Ed Dabney - apparently Mike's doppleganger.
My recollection was that Bruce Scherer played good, tough defense against Bryant which helped turn the game around.

The schedule was bad but we did not lose to Delaware State or Gardner Webb. Nice thing we won the games we should have.

We totally disagree here and that's fine. Eddie just rolled the ball out, we didn't rebound or play D, and there were never any consequences for non-effort and stupid play (Daniels' ridiculous showing against Seton Hall comes to mind) but there were too many to isolate one.

PIkiell is not God and he wasn't close to my first choice but he is light-years ahead of Jordan. Just my opinion.

I would rather be Nebraska at this point, doesnt matter losing to Gardner Webb when you win at Indiana and at Maryland

It's not that we disagree your thought is just flat out wrong. "We just rolled the ball out and played" is an terrible thing to say about an all time great RU player who forgot more about basketball than anyone on this board knows. And to be honest he knows as much about the game as pikiel or anyone else. You don't get to be an NBA head coach by rolling the ball out and letting them play despite what the people on this board like to post. Eddie actually ran some of the best offensive sets I have seen since I followed RU. He was grossly outmatched talent wise. He was a lazy recruiter which sucks. His on the court coaching was not why we failed. As I said above coach K could not have coached last years team to a significantly better record.

I would rather have Pikiel than Jordan but it is ONLY because I fee he will recruit better.

I actually think Eddie would be dangerous in the college game with a bunch of 4 star scorers. Yeah they would play no D but they score the crap out of the ball. Anyone who thinks Eddie can't run an offense is crazy.

I respected your opinion and you tell me it's wrong....lol. Sorry, but that's you opinion.

Here's mine:

Not only was he a lazy recruiter but he was a lazy coach. "Rebounding" wasn't part of his package, he didn't show for a number of events, and I know for a fact that many of his practices were "roll the ball out" scrimmages.

Yes, he was an all-time great RU player and he may have forgotten more than anyone on this board will ever know, but this has nothing to do with his college coaching ability. There are many great ball players who don't make good coaches, pro coaches who can't coach college ball and vice versa, just as there are brilliant people who can't teach. His offense didn't impress me, his teams didn't rebound, or play defense, he gave lots of play time to players who clearly weren't D1 players, etc. The difference between Pikiell and Jordan is way more than recruiting.

Were you at their practices? Because unless you were you are making things up. And that is what pisses me off. Bk was at practice and said EJs practices were as good or better than any coach he had been around.

I don't have to prove anything to you and
I was not at the practices but I know people (plural) who were and whom I trust. These were practices in the second half of the season and the OPINION of them was he had packed it in. It wasn't a secret either.

What matters is results in games .I continue to hear from Rutgers coaches that they had great practices prior to games and then the team loses the game by double digits.Replace the current squad with even 3 Penn State freshmen and the results would be far different. It starts and ends with recruiting more talented players which Rutgers simply has a very difficult time accomplishing.Winning matters now,not 3-4 years down the road which hasn't happened in the past with different head coaches.
