More post opportunities for Freeman

Early in the 2nd half Freeman got very upset about not getting touches and was yelling at teammates. He complained to Pikiell and he changed the inbounds play for him and we messed it up.
I was very disappointed at Freeman and how he interacted. I actually thought the run PSU Went on was fueled by the negative energy he created.

Freeman puts the ball on the floor too much and does not go up strong. Doesn't draw fouls as a result and often turns it over.
Freeman can't score inside against Big Ten level competition and has no jump shot. That's the reality right now. He doesn't go up strong and more often than not his attempts end up causing a fast break the other way while he lays exasperated on the floor. Sa hasn't exactly stepped up but he needs to take away a lot more of Freeman's minutes. Just not productive on either end of the floor.
He has to figure out how to draw fouls. And know when to pass vs taking on double or triple teams
His head is down so he can't pass out of the low post. Instead, he consistently barrels in 1 on 3 and gets stuffed near the rim. It is almost unwatchable lately.
Not big enough and limited offensively for that position and only 2 rebounds today and 3 at Wisky. Another Ollie Bailey type but will get major minutes because there is no one else. I do not doubt his effort overall although the lack of rebounds the past two games might say otherwise
Right now, in the half court, I'd take Ollie Bailey over Deshawn Freeman hands down.
He doesn't have much in the block. He's more of a put back guy not much into being able to create down low
I think you guys are way too hard on Freeman. He barely touched the ball today in the post. Not sure if PSU was denying it, or RU was not looking for it. Either way, it hurt RU badly. Yes, he did get frustrated and tried to drive into some triple teams, but that is not his game, or anyone else's.
I agree. We had the high low set up or the pin down off the back screen and Deshawn had great position and did not get the ball at least 4-5 times. Then he got frustrated, and let it affect both his crashing the glass and at the defensive end , where he was slow to move his feet and could have drawn 2 charges if he did. I was there live and I do not remember him touching it a lot and boxscore says he was 2-4. That is not enough period. Plus if we dump it down low he might get fouled and he is shooting better from there lately. He does have to make more of his layups or use his body to get fouled .
I really disagree with that. He is a better rebounder, passer, defender and leader and neither can score inside against legit size. And somebody else criticized his passing? Probably our best passer in the front court.
For such a great passer, it's not resulting in baskets unless, of course, you want to place all the blame on the recipients for not converting.. Freeman has 10 assists and 32 turnovers on the season. Sanders, the primary ball handler has 35 turnovers this year and Nigel Johnson has 20. In the frontcourt by comparison, Gettys has 24 assists and 25 turnovers. Even Omoruyi has double the assists of Freeman in about 1/3 the playing time.
Eugene will def be our best interior passer in time. And while as you point out the stats say otherwise, I will say he has had a lot of potential assists dropped...Laurent today. At any rate it was more in comparison to Ollie, who I think is a comparable player in many regards...but I would take DeShawn over him for my team.
DeShawn can't score inside against B1G competition. He had lots of problems even against lower D1 teams but by working hard he was able to create multiple opportunities for himself. Needs to develop a jump shot desperately or will be a non factor during B1G schedule this year and next.
It does drive me nuts when Freeman gets a little erratic and drives into a crowd and I think he is trying to do too much lately. In his defense, there was a stretch of games around halfway up to where we are now where he was almost top two in field goal attempts. Now he's getting the ball less and when he does, it's in the post against bigger people. He needs to develop a mid-range jumper and get him contributing more.
