Alarming similarity between Rutgers basketball teams in their inability to score, men 52 points, women 50 points. Its worth watching as league games progress if either team finds some scorers.

Fold this board into the baseball, soccer, lacrosse board.
Don't come on it if you think its worthless.
Seems like some use anything to complain about RU WBB, even the board i is discussed on.
I got tired of seeing the same bashers complain about everything under the sun, so don't come on this board as often as before.
Most RU WBB fans will agree with the complaints, but some complainers seem to make complaining more of a personal agenda than being pissed at losing.

Just the lol part of the subject line shows a little pettiness , in my opinion, when bringing up the lack of game thread.
Saying this board shouldn't be a stand alone is another petty remark, again only expressing my personal opinion

Gotta agree with Mathat here about the 'LOL'. I might expect it from fans of other teams. We're finding pleasure from the fact that women's fans are dwindling? What's funny about that, if you're an RU fan??

really and why not.....Michigan is 12-3 and she is finally likely to take them to the NCAA this year, she is somewhat a fish out of water out there. Very successful at St Johns building a program that was terrible with alot of tough players...did she beat UConn while she was there? I know at SJU she beat RU like 6 straight times. I think she would be very successful at her natural recruiting base

if I didnt start it there would be no thread at all here and no one discussing a program where we pay a coach 600-700K

Which would also lend more ammo to the "fold the board" comment.
At least there's something posted on the game.

Yeah but wouldn't Gail Goestenkoers be upset? Or Courtney? You just keep touting new flavors of the month.

The team actually played a pretty good game holding a "blond ponytail" to 2-14 shooting on the road while holding UM to a point total well under their season average. This while being undermanned and fighting through some foul trouble. Hopefully the improvement continues. Hope to see you all at the Penn State game Saturday.

We actually play similar to how Stringer teams always play, except we have way less talent than we have had in the past. That's the problem, and while we should have more talent next year, it's not up to our usual standards. CVS should cede her position to a new coach at the end of the year so that the new coach can get off to a running start, whether it be Kim, Gail, Courtney, Chris, or whoever.

The LOL part was petty whether you want to admit that or not.
Bringing up no one started a game thread wasn't the problem, the way you did it was.
You acted like a njo.com troll finding ways to put down RU WBB, not a RU WBB fan complaining about no game thread and attributing it to the way the team has played this season.
Of course the old standby excuse >pay< always makes explaining away someone's pettiness far more convincing .

As for Shill's lack of traffic justification, seems like not many agree with the merge idea. Maybe the long time bashers do but then references to ponytails might have wrestling fans think that statement was about the heavyweight division [winking]

I'm thinking what you suggested will be a fact and most RU WBB fans ( I think) will be sad that it came to that, but understand it needed to happen if this season continues the way it is now.
I know I won't complain if Stringer (1) retires on her own, (2) Hobbs lets CVS know her contract won't be renewed and Vivian is forced to retire or (3) C.Vivian Stringer if fired by Hobbs because she won't leave on her own, if this season turns out like it looks it will.
I'll just hope that no matter which way: 1,2 or 3 CVS ends her Rutgers career, she is offered Coach Emeritus status in honor of all the good years she brought to RU WBB fans.

Thank you for noting the first part. There are tweaks - but conceptually, CVS is CVS. There was a bit more intent to run down the shot clock in this game (but she was always willing, it just hasn't always been completely intentional).

I am (and have said) neither unwilling to see a change of coaches nor insistent upon it. The announcers on this game made the issues CVS is facing a bit more obvious, and, as you said, we looked like a not-so-talented CVS team. In earlier games this year, I didn't think we looked like a CVS team at all, or knew how to play basketball much, either.

If a new coach next year could be said to "get off to a running start" it would be in recruiting. Existing players - at least some - might head elsewhere and in any case would have an uphill battle learning a different system. My opinion is that next year is, in fact, likely to be better with CVS than without - not making any opinions about how good it is likely to be, nor speaking about anything other than next season.

Kim is one of a number of coaches that can be considered.

Of the many coaches that have some appeal to be considered by RU, all also have some drawbacks. In Kim's case, she hasn't really established just how good a coach she is or isn't. She certainly doesn't have a big NCAA tourney success history, with 5 appearances, 4 ending in the 2nd round and 1 in the Sweet 16. 6 WNIT appearances.
An over all look at her record suggests a tendency to about a 20-10 season record and about .500 in conference - this and the tourney records over both St. John's and Michigan jobs.

Do u think we will be better off if CVS goes eg. 16-15 next year (which I doubt). It won't help recruiting. And what about next year. Without Tyler is sure to be below .500

I wasn't clear. It was specifically that I think our win / loss record for next season has the potential to be better under Vivian than under a new coach, for the reasons I stated - potential players leaving, the need to teach a new system, etc. I "think" it could be better than you suggest, although I am not proposing a return to glory times.

Of course, that sort of thing will occur whenever there is a change of coaches, especially the year after a legend with a very unique style. I am not claiming it would be better for the program (as a whole) to retain Vivian, that's the "gray" area that I think there is some validity (based on not knowing everything) to both the viewpoint that a replacement is needed sooner rather than later and the opposite viewpoint that Vivian should attempt to get to 1000 wins. Hence my willingness to accept whatever RU decides without any complaint.

Tyler I believe will be back , but agree 15-16 wins are not acceptable and recruiting would suffer with a record like that and Stringer not returning as RU's HC.

I, like many CVS supporters, feel that if Hobbs feels a change is needed at the end of this season, he needs to do it unless Vivian feels it's time to hang it up and does( lets not get into a she won't do that discussion, I talking hypothetically not saying it as a fact)
So unless this season drastically changes and reverses the course it's taking now, if C.Vivan Stringer doesn't return , for any reason, I'll not whine about it and accept the time for change has come.
If she does return and this season was as bad as it looks now, I'll be surprised and just hope for the best in the 2017-18 season.
But expect to see a lot of pissed posters [laughing]:boxing::mad:

I respect your well written and thought out post. I also would have to accept Hobb's decision either way.

But more than likely, even if CVS pulls off a .500 season, that would be considered a great comeback in the WBB world, it would still result in a very sub-par recruiting class through the early signing period next fall. That would make the climb back for a new coach that much harder.

I will have to leave it to the basketball Gods and just root for a W one game at a time.

Go RU....GO CVS!!!!!

I guess I see what's happening in a different light. Lost 5 seniors from last years team (2 to the WNBA); Lost Scafe to injury (best player, probable 1st team B1G), two others down with injury leaving 8 players on the bench. With a very young team (granted--recruiting is down), I see no one quitting on the court (unlike we've seen with MBB and FB). On the contrary, I see fight throughout the team, kids improving game to game and what probably would have been a couple more Ws if they weren't exhausted by the 4th qtr.

By the end of the year, I believe we'll all be calling this one of CVS' best coaching years in a long career. And next year with injurred players back, four (?) transfers having played with the team all year, and maybe some new blood: I believe we'll be having a notable season.

Impending retirement does hinder, undoubtedly, recruiting. But it should also be noted that Rutgers is a VERY desirable job and potential recruits should realize that eventually they'll by getting a topflight replacement.

I am very happy w the win. My posts show that. But I would like to comment on this post and talk about CVS's next season. This is one game. CVS should not be back..

You actually gave proof in your post. You stated that CVS lost 5 seniors, including 2 to the WNBA. And also lost Tyler for the season. And I'm sure we are all in agreement that barring injury or other circumstances, Tyler is also WNBA bound.

The proof (in more than one way) that CVS should not be back, is that she took a team w 3 WNBA players to the WNIT and got crushed at home to Virginia, a team RU beat earlier in the season at a neutral court. (I believe a tourney in the Carribean).

The time for a decision to bring in a new HC is long gone.

But I do have to point out that we don't know 2 things -
- how last year's team would have performed if Vivian was available to coach practices and the games she missed
- how last year's team would have performed if there was any assistant coach familiar with Vivian's system like the 3 that left before the year to pick up the slack when Vivian wasn't around.

It is also obvious that the last game against Virginia was played by a team with little interest in playing the game. I don't know or understand what happened, but this was evident in reports on the game and also in CVS's presser. Now, this can be blamed on CVS (fairly) but can also be recognized as having been what it was.

After the PSU win is not the time for Stringer supporters to start saying Vivian deserves to return, let the rest of the season play out before claiming CVS earned a right to return.
But I'll say : if RU continues to play like they did against Penn St and starts winning like in the old days, even those who want her gone should admit C.Vivian Stringer deserves to come back next year based on the way this season turned out .
But the criteria of that should be a minimum of getting an WNIT bid and i can't expect the RU WBB fans that think it's time for Stringer to leave after this season to change their minds even if the season turns out a winning one but no WNIT invite.

As for me: any vaild reason for CVS to stay would be supported by me, but if the team plays like it was before the PSU game most of the rest of this season I wouldn't have a valid reason to say CVS deserves to return next year and expect it to be accepted by all.

Only got carried away and basically said this win doesn't change the fact Vivian has to have a good year for her to deserve to return.
But I'll still support Hobbs bringing CVS back next year if Rutgers has a winning season, but expect complaints from those who want Stringer gone if the team doesn't earn a WNIT bid.

2000, made sense to me reading what I posted, but obviously I'm the only one that did :chairshot:
