Jerry does a great job, but he dropped the ball on this recap. How can he possibly not have a write-up on the Feb. 21, 1999 game at the Meadowlands (Seton Hall 57, Rutgers 55; Holloway knocked the ball off Hodgson's leg)? IMHO, it's the most memorable and heartbreaking game in the history of the rivalry. I'm sure most RU fans would agree.
I agree, but he is only using the games starting in 2000. I also would include the Dec 1991 game at the RAC. We lost 77-72, but it was in the top five loudest games I have ever heard at the RAC. Seton Hall was ranked #12 at the time of the game, I believe.

Best game ever was at the RAC, pre-Big East. The "Luther Can't Spell This" game. We lost, but was the craziest crowd I've ever witnessed at the RAC.
That was kind of cruel.
I'm sure SHU students will give Gettys a hard time on Friday though because he's a big dude.
Good point. I didn't take into that into consideration.... Also, you're so right about the Dec. '91 game. Danny Hurley played particularly well. The RU crowd was going ape shi+ during the tightly contested battle.... 8,966 fans packed the RAC that evening.
Agree. It was cruel. That was the atmosphere that day. Insane. It was the 1991 game at the RAC BTW.

I personally had "Luther Can't/Kant Wright" banner (believe there was a 2nd). I don't know if it was that year but I really got on Halloways case. He was such a good sport about it that a few games later when Lefty Drisell? sent in a ringer to take Halloway out of the Seton hall-James Madison? game (via punch?)-I personally called the James Madison AD to complain. So much for being anti Seton Hall! Not sure that Drisell survived that year.
Another year the Ledger ran a contest analogous to "insult the other team". I won but my entry the year before was MUCH better. However I didn't want it published because I was fearful some Hall fan would try to take me out! Really good and funny (to RU fans) though.
Herb Pope head butted Eli Carter but the nuts punch was in the NIT to a player I believe on Texas A & M. He also slammed Dane Miller in the last second of a game on the road. Dane could have been seriously hurt. The guy was a real thug. I've heard that he is doing time but I don't know if that is true or not.
It was Texas Tech, but same difference. That was my personal low point as a fan of the program; thankfully, Gonzo was fired the next day (or something like that). Just awful. Pope had a terrible background - a really tough life, even in a game where a lot of kids grew up in terrible environments - but at some point, he just couldn't be defended any more. The shame was - and not that you'd really know it by watching at a distance - he was a pretty bright kid. Just incredibly self-destructive. I fully understand why he is so reviled here. I don't know that he's doing time, but it wouldn't be shocking, really.
I'm glad we've got a team of good kids now. Seems like you guys do, too. I like your coach a lot. I like our, too, at least as a person; not sold on him as a coach. But this game sets up nicely. We've both got something to play for, both teams and coaches are solid folks, and there seems to be a little juice back in this thing. Should be fun!
yes this game was incredibly loud....i have this on tape somewhere...people who have said the RAC was loud during Bannon or Waters have NO CLUE how loud it was...people who went to school in that 89-92 timeframe experienced it and its something I dont think is going to come back again
