We need to come up with some cheesy slogan about how fast our team is now like 84 other teams.

Actually, let's not.

Wow... that's crazy fast.

Jesse Owens set a world record in 1936 at 10.2s and won gold in Berlin with 10.3s two months later. Even today, though, 10.31s would break the national record in many countries.

More evidence of nj.com's conspiracy against Rutgers.
It's just one of Rutgersal's wild predictions coming true. Harvard from Monday to Friday, USC on Saturdays he used to say lol...

I'm guessing that 10.31 was wind aided or hand timed b/c otherwise it's got to be about the fastest time in the nation this year. Even Dennis Mitchell didn't run that fast, if I remember correctly.

No, Dennis Mitchell never ran that fast. If its not wind-aided and ends up being ratified, it would be a state record. And I don't have the most recent times, but as of 4;24 it'd be tied for the 2nd-fastest in the country. Top three were all Florida, BTW.
God I'd weep with joy if 1) that time is accurate and 2) he opted to run track for RU in the spring.

10.31 electric is a 10.2 hand time ... Was this hand times? If not, he ran a 10.55 which still wins MoC most years. I think Dennis Mitchell ran 10.2 and used to hold the state record.

I hear people talk about Florida speed or SEC speed etc and the last time I look Alabama had a couple of kids from NJ playing as true freshman and helping them win a national title. 10.3 is 10.3 everywhere, NJ has plenty of speed.

I always think about those SEC land kids as hothouse flowers. As long as those teams don't play up north in the cold weather, we have no idea how good they can be as NFL players in cold-weather cities. Their entire childhoods are spent in warmer climes. Their college careers can see them never play in under 40 degrees. Hell, wasn't there a long stream of Florida teams who never played an OOC game outside Florida? They played in warm weather all the time and then go to a bowl game indoors or in warm weather as well.

At least the Florida kids who leave to play up north will get some exposure to.. well, exposure.

Actually a 10.31 electric would be like a 10.1 hand-time, since there is a .24 conversion in the 100. So Dennis' 10.2 would be like a 10.44 converted to auto. A sophomore from Camden, Jamar Ervin or somesuch, had run a 10.35 or something along those lines. Danny Johnson from Rahway hit 10.40. Nobody has run a legal 10.31.
Now, this could be windy. It could've been a hand time reported as an auto time. I have no idea. But if it's legal and ratified, damn, it's fast. And a state record.

Agreed on all points. 10.31 electric non wind assisted would be amazing. In any case, though, he is fast and we have to look forward to him at RU whether it was 10.31 or not.
