http://www.app.com/story/sports/col...ikiell-busy-reshaping-rutgers-hoops/82687838/

Key points:

DeShawn Freeman has rejoined the team

Jahlil Tripp no longer being pursued as recruit

Issa Thiam still being pursued as recruit (so with bullock and thiam then there still remains 4 open ships)

Rickard may be put in different role than as asst coach (so 2 asst coach positions to fill)

Shoes still is a presence on campus (very telling)

Doorson and Freeman seeking medical redshirts

Sanders participating in workouts with team

Carino with a similar article stating Jay Young expected to join staff if he doesn't get Stony Brook which at this time is believed to be going to a high major assistant.

With only 8 players now for next year (assuming Corey is back)

Sr.....NONE
Jr......Freeman/Johnson/Williams
So....Sanders/Laurent/Doorson/Diallo
Fr.....Bullock

Keeping Thiam is a TOP TOP TOP priority for next year

Also should look to add two fifth year guys...even if they are just for practice.

We need an everything class signed next fall....two guards, one forward, and one center (and a second forward if thiam doesn't come)

Shack, I agree 100% with your statements.

To keep Thiam, Pikiell is going to need to keep Shoes. The fact that Shoes remains a presence on campus is very telling.

We can't think that way. That is a Flood move. Only reason to keep Shoes is if he can execute a part of Pikiel's vision.
I think basketball is different because one player can make a big difference. Now, I don't know if Thiam is a difference maker but just think if we signed Jason Williams.

I cannot access the Asbury Park article. Is there a charge or a risk to log in with just my email address or to link it to facebook? I don't want to appear stupid but do I need to have a subscription to the APP? This is all kind of confusing to me. I keep getting a free access to an article or two and than it is gone. I am glad to get the update on RU. The signing period begins in exactly one week. I hope we can hear some positives on players and coaches real soon.

Don't think it's that telling....

Remember, Ash kept some assistants on until he filled his staff. Everyone thought that meant something, but then Panagos and Campanille were let go after a few weeks.

Coaches usually keep assistants on to help the transition...can't read much into Shoes being around..until something is formally announced, imo.

I don't have any problem accessing the page. But then again I clear my cookies every night before shutdown using both CCleaner & WinUtilities.

strongly disagree. look how Seton Hall got Whitehead. Thiam isn't Whitehead, but no one else has proven they can recruit RU. When Shoes was on board, we landed Sanders, Laurent, and Freeman. He was also the main recruiter for Thiam.

Believe he's still employed by RU until the end of the school year. That would also explain his presence on campus.
Does the same employment situation pertain to the other Jordan assistant coaches including presence on campus?

I hear you. I think Sanders put Rutgers and Pikiell in a bad spot. A bad tone is set if Shoes is retained. It is unfortunate if Pikiell really thinks Shoes shares Pikiell's vision and can execute.

Exactly and add Doorson to that list. And that was under the constraints of the old regime (recruiting budget and otherwise)

Pickiell's vision requires players. We need assistants that can recruit.

Looking at the Whitehead situation or how it appears to me Shoes recruits (I can definitely be wrong here!) It is a high risk strategy that can work or completely destroy a team. I rather do it a different way, but I respect the opposite opinion.

There is no denying the SHU situation was explosive last year and in the end it might have been worth it. Freeman and Sanders are the B1G players that we have lacked. Both were suspended/ publicly disciplined twice.

Freeman was suspended only once.

APP allows you to read 9 articles before they try to get you to subscribe, but, if you clear the cookies in your browser you can continue to read for free.

There is an easy workaround for this problem. Email me - CoralKnight (at) Yahoo (dot) com and I'll explain it to you

And if you access the article directly from a link in Carino's Twitter post I think you won't be blocked either.

I guess posters on this board know more about Pikiell and Shoes and their existing relationship. If Pikiell talks to Shoes and they share the same vision that's all that matters. That's a good thing, not unfortunate.

Not sure what browser you're using, but in most you can open a new private/incognito window (Google how to do this if you're unsure) and you can get around most paywalls/view limits on sites.

You aren't reading what i am saying.

honestly, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

FIG...I'm sure no one even remembers the tweet, it's only being talked about here. Sanders knows he has two options, regardless of Shoes.....declare and go undrafted or return to Rutgers. He is working out on campus. He is not transferring to sit out. I guess he could always transfer down to NE Fort Meyers U in Florida and play against high school level talent. That will really prepare him for the draft.

If Pikiell retains Shoes it's because he wants him and thinks he would help him succeed.

Here is a hint to circumvent the subscription requirement for the APP. If you search for the article using key words through Google you don't need to login and you get a free look. Google apparently requires that for anyone subject to their searches
