Please stop. How many times have we overrated freshman.

I got killed telling people that Rosario and Biruta weren't as good as everyone thought. I'd guesstimate 1/2 to 2/3 thru sophomore years is where most RU fans start evaluating players accurately.

Don't let yourself be fooled. Just because Rosario went to Florida and got stuck behind players who were better, doesn't mean he wouldn't have been good for Rutgers. I wonder what he is up to. The combination of he and Eli Carter would have meant more wins. Biruta would have been an effective role player off the bench. who doesn't need a big man who can rebound and perhaps block a few shots? Thing is, we're hoping every player we get to be the next superstar, ala Quincy Douby, but things don't always work out that way.

They might not have been as good as everyone thought, but they would've been good for Rutgers. I see Sanders in the same light.

Strongly disagree. Pikiell's task is to build a program. No one player is bigger than the program. I hope Sanders embraces the program and stays. But the program should not alter course to embrace him.

Everybody wants the same thing, and that is to win. I'm sure there's more commonality than differences. It's on Pikiell to convince Sanders.

It's not easy to recruit players like Sanders to Rutgers.

I am telling you..no Sanders means more wins in the medium and long term.

I'd much prefer Coach P. to do things his way. It's his program to develop. Is he expecting post-season play next year or even the year after? Probably not, because he stated he's going to build the program the right way.....to last. I'd like to see Corey stay, but not at the risk of overshadowing Pikiell's building job.

Pikiell's first task is to change the culture and acceptance of losing amongst the players. It is to build a foundation and base from which he can build the program. Its to instill discipline early to give him the actual shot at rebuilding. There is a lot of immaturity in the program given the two suspensions we had to our two best players. Thats something that has to be dealt with. Players come and go so I am not worried about that. Sanders is no more important than anyone else and he is most likely not going to be get as much leeway from Pikiell than Jordan did. Everyone will be given a fairshot to show that they are united in building something here as a program and not an individual

If Corey wants to leave so much, then good luck to him. We went through this twice with Douby. Will he or won't he leave after his 1st and 2nd year? He had to be wooed, and in the end, he made a couple of teammates lives miserable because he was the privileged one.We don't need that. If Sanders stays, great--no special treatment or promises about anything at all, except a chance to be the lead character in a rebuild. If that's not enough, and you need to challenge for the NCAA title your next eligible year to burnish your rep for the NBA, some number of coaches will sign you.

wow I'm all over the place on who I'm agreeing and disagreeing with on this thread

my thoughts

1)Pikiell is the new HC. If he wants Shoes, then fine. If he doesn't fine also. And if that makes Corey leave , I'd be sorry but oh well
2)Corey is indeed better than both Biruta and Rosario
3)We will not be better off without Corey on this team next season in this or any parallel universe
4) You can't win without talent, period. you can lose with talent but this is unlikely.

Al - a "3-year shitshow"? Sounds like you actually think Corey is going to stick around for more than 1 more year AND you think the rest of the roster is incompetent? Don't get me wrong, I agree, I want Corey here first and foremost, just kind of curious as to your thoughts on the above. Thanks.

Seeing as this thread is Al bs already covered Sensibly (relative to board standards)...

Not for nothing but Mike Rosario would be a perfect compliment to Sanders lol. I hate to say it but give me Sanders, Rosario, and Inman with some role players lol

also we are going to need alot more than Corey to win here. This current team is devoid of talent overall. They might be able to be coached up and hit 500 in year 2 of Pikiell but he is going to need some major pieces not complimentary pieces as Al has said to help Sanders going forward. My best case scenerio even with Corey is a NIT season Corey's senior year which is Pikiell's third year...and that is if Corey is here for his senior season

You guys have been hurt so much with this team you dont even know what you are seeing. Sanders runs circles around Rosario and especially Biruta.

Why is that not translating in wins and baskets on the offensive end? Why is our only win VS a decimated Minnesota team?

No doubt Corey is talented, but what does he really do well? Is he good perimeter shooter? Sometimes we are too dazzled by crossover dribbles and fancy ball handling.

You guys think this is fantasy football and you just plug people in to the lineup.

Of course keeping Corey is a priority. It takes two to tango however. You want a successful program then you need everyone pulling the rope in the same direction. Corey will be communicated to about how valuable he is and that he is wanted. Coach Pikiell may even beg and plead for him to stay. If he stays however, it won't be as a prima donna. I don't think too many "missed flights" will be tolerated by a new coach trying to instill a "winning" mentality into a downtrodden program.

By the way, how good is he? Is he leave early for the NBA good? I'm new to you guys and trying to catch up.

Pikiell's #1 priority should be assembling the best staff he can for our program to move forward. One unified staff working together for the good of the program. If that includes Shoes, great. If not, so be it.

Pikiell's #2 priority is keeping Sanders.

I could see keeping Shoes for one season to see how it works and making a change next year if it does not work out.

Obviously keeping the best player should be a priority of the new head coach. How could anyone possibly argue otherwise?
Agree, but apparently some RU fans would like to argue otherwise. Pikiell is in charge. He is not on the clock. He needs time. But, his task in turning this program around is MUCH easier if he keeps the current players and recruits including Sanders. It's weird to see the cavalier attitude some RU fans have toward the best player on the team. Sanders is a guy with options. I'm happy that he didn't leave right away after the coach who recruited him got fired. Many players do that. I really hope Pikiell can re-recruit guys like him and Thiam. This program is devoid of B1G talent.

So weird that a lot of these posters were saying Jordan needed 7 years to rebuild. Now Pikiell's on the clock for keeping Sanders and making the current squad competitive from Day One.

Jordan needed 7 and only got three. Pikiell's best chance for competitiveness is keeping sanders.

Whatever he's gotta do to make that happen, he's gotta do. With Corey, if we add a few more complementary pieces, we can be real good real fast. Without him, it's going to be a 3 year sh!tshow and who wants any more of those.
1. Change title to, in my opinion....
2. His 1st priority, is a suspended player, that is publicly telling the
head coach what to do?
3. We all know your headlines are totally for attention, but that was
OK, but now it's different, because you are now, much more negative.
4. Relax.
5. You don't think Pikiell know what he is doing? You think you know more?
Change it to " In my opinion, but don't think for one second you know
1/100 of what coach know.

I remember people criticizing Dahntay Jones during his soph year. When he left for Duke, they said he would never see the court. Went on to be a 2-year starter and then on to NBA.

I don't see Sanders having the option to leave after his soph year unless it is to play internationally. He is very talented but needs to make his team better and continue to get stronger. He needs to stay at RU but under Pikiell's terms, not his own. Pikiell is being paid to manage this situation for the best interests of RU basketball and I'm optimistic that he will.

I think Corey sticks around for at least 2 more years. we start over, and its going to be another 3 years before we have a chance at .500.

Yes, but you can't win without talent.

Oh contra Pikiell has proven that a Skilled coach can get more with less. COACHING is why he is making over 1Million

Corey IS the cornerstone of the foundation. Very difficult to start anew.
Hello he is starting anew. As Pikiell stated, "FIRST get a great staff" (we already have some great leads looking at us (Rutgers).
here is where Sanders stands "HE IS EXPENDABLE" why for the betterment of the team program and w/l record. he was suspended twice by laid back Jordan BAD sign You do not leave a rotten apple in the your new barrel no matter how many short wins he will give you. Also is he really NBA material I have not seen it. His size is questionable and his talent on a NBA level ??? guards like him are a dime a dozen.
Here is the way it will go down plan A and Plan B.
Pikiell- we are building a winning program U had some suspensions if you think you are above everyone else there is the door
Sanders A- I am what makes this team I am special
Pikiell- I will lost 2 year to win in the long run. Good bye son!
Sanders B- I am a team player and I want to help us build Rutgers BB to be a power.
Pikiell- Great I need leaders who does it for the team. I am looking to build you into a Man and I will make you a better player with my coaching......BTW screw up and U R GONE
No rocket science here, bottom line we will win without Sanders just a lot less but we will build a program that does not reek of rotten apples
And how many years does he get I say 5+ this is Rutgers ya know
