This is hiring a head coach for basketball not a guinea pig experiment. Hobbs will lose all my support by hiring a guy who has no experience even as an assistant. What has Jay Williams done that should allow a Big 10 school to hand him over the keys to the program without moving through the ranks. Even the fact that Hobbsis cconsidering it is making me sick as a Rutgers fan. A chance to hire a coach and once again we have an AD looking at buying a powerball ticket in a remote hope to cash in rather than do the dirty work thats needed

Hopefully, this is just for publicity. There would be no words for this if Williams is hired.

Did you guys read the article? Williams is the fall back candidate. Doubt he's hired.

Yeah, I read the article and he was interviewed. That's enough for me to be worried. Why even interview him? Courtesy? Courtesy for what?

If he gets hired, he'll have screwed RU twice.

I have no problem that he interviewed. He wants the job, he's a jersey guy, he's a "name".

If he impressed, he moves up the list. If he doesn't, well, he wasn't a front-runner anyway. No harm, no foul in my opinion.

Hobbs knows what he's doing...

Not a courtesy interview hence my avatar change. Another experiment by Barchi and Hobbs. This will show RU gives 2 funks about basketball. When was the last time Williams coached a team ...rec, high school, college, pros? This hire would be worse than FHJ. But everyone at ESPN would say this is a great hire. I had enough of this **** show.

Just thinking out loud here, but we pass on Williams and he goes somewhere else and becomes the next hot, young coaching phenom. Typical Rutgers. Why not get in on the ground floor? What the hell do we have to lose at this point.

I wouldnt worry about it. I would be deeply surprised if it happened.

That's exactly my concern. How the heck could he impress. Nothing worse than a guy who interviews well and can't do the job. I see them all the time. Interviews are useful. But if there's no track record of actually having done the job or something close to it--you know, like an assistant--there's no reason to even consider the candidate. This is a head coaching position in a top league, and you can't give it to someone who has never ever done the job before or anything remotely close to it.

Wasn't a waste as he is the leading candidate if Hurley doesn't get what he asks for. Hand over the keys to a B1G program in trouble to a guy with no coaching experience. Big deal he tutored Curry and Walker and now working with Sanders.

I like that Hobbs is thinking outside of the box. No harm in the interview, maybe picked Jay Williams brain for some ideas on how to turn this around.

This would me that we would disregard previous coaching experience and results from that...... You make a hire based on who is the best candidate......

Would he be, at this point?

does Rutgers have rules like the NFL where you need to consider a certain number of minority candidates? If so, that may beart of the reason for the interview.

Who cares what tv analysts say..of course they will support him. National media will fawn over but they could give two ***** about Rutgers. Williams is perfectly allowed to get a head job at a low low level. I am trying to figure out why Hobbs would think he is owed a major job

At this point we could have kept Eddie Jordan because you know at least he was a loyal son while Williams was a benedict arnold...let

Probably a courtesy interview. However, even in the professional world, sometimes employers have interviews just to pick the brain of a candidate without any real intention of hiring him. Williams could have a unique perspective about the program and Hobbs is looking at all angles of the program.

If the coach Ash hire is a model for what Hobbs looks for in a candidate, I would ask which candidate is likely to have the most comprehensive plan for turning the program around. Ash wowed Hobbs in the interview. Who most likely would wow Hobbs in this interview process with a fully detailed and comprehensive plan?

I thought Eddie Jordan was an awful hire from day 1. Jay Williams is a worse hire than that. Refuse to believe it would happen.

I totally get what you're saying, but Williams could be an absolute home run. Great pedigree, great player, and I think he would be so hungry to succeed based on how his career ended.
The somewhat successful mid-major coaching hand has been played here already. At this point, I'm willing to really roll the dice. You and most others are not. I get it.

It's Barchi I'm afraid of. And if Hobbs doesn't come through with a right hire he should be strung up by the nads in the rafters of the RAC.

2 things:
1) It goes to show that College BBall is about recruiting. Period. Eddie couldn't do it. Then, once you have the skill players, if you have the experience of playing that Williams has, you can teach them the game.

2) Hobbs is not following any conventional methodology to find a coach. He's looking for a vision and enthusiasm, and perhaps he sees that in JWill

Obviously Ammaker isn't interested and he was my first pick 3 years ago and then now.

1. Ammaker
2. Lonegan
3. Hurley
4. Others.

On paper; Lonegan probably looks as good as anyone. Hurley can recruit and has an advantage in NJ but is it enough to overtske Lonegans cosching abilities? He's a terrific coach. we haven't had a coach with Lonegans resume since I've been here.

Why not listen to Williams and see what he has to say? We are at this point not much better than a division 3 team so its a good place to learn.
