Danny Hurley to Rutgers is "not a foregone conclusion," source tells @SNYtv.

BTW, Al Golden was FIRED!!

Hurley's team is ascending! He's employed and has job security.

But who cares about facts.

My comment in this post is simply don't believe everything that comes from the lazy nj press when it comes to Hobbs. Simple as that. It will happen fast because Hobbs said it would, but that doesn't make Hurley the automatic guy just like they were way off base with Golden - even though Golden was fired as you correctly recollect.

With respect to Hurley, it will come down to his resume vs. potintial embarassement in the future. I'll bet on the cautious side based upon our history.

Hobbs has to convince Danny and/or Mike that they will get what they need to succeed or Plan B will have to be used because neither of them will take the RU HC job without assurances they will have the school's support and the time to fix the problems that have made RU MBB the mess it is right now.
Both would be good hires, but both might make demands that keep them from being hired.

Is it possible that both pass despite assurances they will have the school's support?

Hopefully Hobbs will be able to offer them enough to convince them to take the job , but I wonder if what they feel they need in time and support is something Hobbs can agree to .
Salary I don't think would be the problem, but you can be sure Danny isn't going to agree to less than 7 years after the 3 disastrous years RU had after he withdrew his name from consideration because the 7 years he wanted wasn't going to happen.
Mike Lonergan's demands might be hard to meet as well.
Both don't need RU as much as RU needs them and Danny would bring a major buzz to RU MBB if he takes the job.

Anything is possible, including using Rutgers interest to get what he may want from his current school.

Not saying a matching salary offer, sometimes coaches want other stuff that will help the program

Based on his own words.....Hobbs is talking to several coaches and will continue to do so over the next few days. Hopefully, Masielo is one of them and that he kills it when they talk.

I have serious doubts that anyone other than Hobbs knows what is really going on. He was like Fort Knox with the Ash hire and now the press knows it all? Also, do not get the hate towards Hurley. Don't know if he is the answer but he has done a good job at his previous two stops. Seems to be an anti Hurley segment on these boards and it is probably not just linked to Danny. Probably Bob and Bobby have something to do with it for some reason as well would be my guess.

In honor of Seton Hall making the Tourny , I think the PJ Carlissimo to RU rumor should be floated.

I tried the Larry Brown idea last night, but people can't stand greatness combined with character flaws and age discrimination. I understand.

Nolan Richardson? Mouse Davis?

If Hurley wants a big job this may be it. I don't see another B1G team calling. Maybe he gets a look from a Big East or ACC school.....maybe he likes New England and wants the Boston College job.

The NJ press got way too ahead of themselves earlier today. They want us to hire Hurley, and they don't want to hire Hurley, it's a "win-win" situation for them IMHO.

Zags has always essentially been a Bob Hurley mouthpiece. Hell, he might be his only source so I'm not sure what to make of this. Could be Danny has cold feet, not buying the sales job or posturing for more money and assurances. I'm sure Zags has no sources at Rutgers.

Here's No. 12......Fran Fraschilla for Rutgers coach. I am surprised he is only 57

More likely that Hobbs is conducting a proper search, and not "handing" the job to anybody, as opposed to what press was trying to proliferate earlier today. That's my guess based on everything we've seen and heard from Hobbs to date.

Maybe but Hobbs saying he wanted to try and get this done this week kind of showed his hand a bit to me.

Oh, no doubt, but he "showed his hands" to a smaller pool of candidates IMHO. I want this done by Friday, trust me, I just want him to be 150% sure of the hire REGARDLESS of the name.

Dan Hurley is just 43 years old. If he stayed put this go round and started getting to NCAA Tournaments at Rhode Island, someone else at a HM would come calling.

I'm sure of that and if he had a NCAA team this year, RU probably wouldn't be the only major basketball conference school looking at him.

You are right. Have no issue if you have another choice. It's the straight out hate that I don't understand
Where are getting that people "straight out hate" Hurley? There may be a few but I think the people that don't want him just like someone else better. It's similar to the football coach search. In the end most will unite and support whoever gets hired.

I don't understand this 7-year demand. Is not a football team harder to turn around than basketball team? Schiano turned around the football team in less than 5 years.

I can understand someone wanting job security but asking but 7 years as a drop dead demand is a red-flag for me that the candidate has no confidence is his abilities. I can understand too wanting facilities upgrades but saying I can't get the job done until RU upgrades is another red-flag. The right candidate should be able to get the team to the competitive stage in 3 years.

If I'm Hobbs I don't want anyone looking for a civil-service coaching job and ready to make excuses for failing.
