Agree with the article. My only question is whether Eddie did any healing as HC ? Agree that he has hurt the RU brand, for whatever that was worth when he got here.

Haven't RU folks talked in the past about Gary Waters being a healer as well ? Maybe we should hire a HC that doesn't need to be a healer next time.

this is a RU hoops discussion board...the team is on a 30 game conference losing streak. The program has a 15 game losing streak tied for 2nd all time with last years losing streak and set to tie Littlepages record for losing with the next loss. RU has lost 37 of its last 42 games! No one sets out to attack Eddie or the players. If you think so then maybe the message board isn't for you. Its sobering reality about the coaching here, the staff, and the players of whether they belong on this level. Again you want to deflect to writers or posters, true I guess I cant stop you but it does say something.

Bac, I could care less what you think. I can post whatever I want and will continue to do so, because as you say this is a message board.

Correct, which Is why competing with 6 scholarship players and a depleted roster is impossible. You may call it an excuse, but I call it an extremely important fact.

Here's another truth: Kyle Flood's football program had more B1G conference wins in two seasons (4) than Eddie Jordan's MBB program (2). Keep in mind that MBB plays twice the number of conference games.

If 4 conference wins weren't enough to keep KF, then 2 conference wins shouldn't be enough to keep EJ.

I don't think this is a one year argument, it's an assessment of what's taken place over the 3 years. If we wanted to isolate the overall review to just this year, that would be fine, but it would not be fair to ignore the 1st two years as if it didn't happen with more players, perhaps more healthy players and or more experienced players on the roster.

I think Eddie's offensive system is solid in theory, but there is no attention to the defensive end and that has been a 3 year pattern, not just Year one. I can state the lack of defense about 50+ other D1 or some Power 5 programs (including Minnesota, who is horrific defensively as well), but those programs have elite athletes and or elite coaches that win games at a higher rate or percentage. Most programs that are rebuilding start the process on the defensive end of the court, which is more of a method to fixing a program vs not appearing capable of doing so......Again these are just my opinions on what it would take.

The injuries to the front line impact the rebounding or ability to avoid giving up 2nd shot opportunities, but they don't impact the defensive game plan or lack thereof. No one is arguing against the impact of the injuries, but the gaps in scoring differential is so high that it's impossible to argue that RU would score more and defend at a high enough difference to generate 2 or 3 conference wins or perhaps 3 to 4 overall wins total vs where we are today.

The only alarming difference is how drastically different the feel of the game is without Sanders on the court and how much of an impact Nigel Johnson and Sanders have as a tandem next year.

Did Flood lose his entire starting offense or entire starting defense to injury?

excuse me but RU lost 3 players...two of which do not score..not entire offense but nice try...and what defense..what defense..what defense

and the team was there for the first 8 games or so

How can a team win a Big 10 game with 6 scolarship players? If EJ can retain all of his players with no transfers or other departures, I say give him another year.

how can a Big 10 team be in a position to have only 6 players - bad roster management, a star suspended - this doesnt happen by accident - decisions by the HC play into this roster - the type of guys he recruited (academic risks & character issues)

The low IQ comments were based on the way they perform on the court, not in the classroom.

But you already knew that.

I love Dave and what he does, but this continuing assault on the program isn't helping anyone do anything except get more frustrated.

For giggles, let's say EJ is coming back...what then? What will all of you who've been out for his blood all season do when it comes to supporting the program next year?

That's where your myopia comes in, 118.
If that ill-advised decision is made, I'm certain the overwhelming majority will root for the jersey as we've always done.

You support every coach until he's not the coach anymore. Why would you think this would be different?

This is why the administration is beginning to look to cut ties. They are afraid of next year knowing full well that even with some improvement it simply won't quell the hostility towards Coach and make it near impossible for him to coach and recruit.

That is why I was told a few weeks ago that the plan was still to bring him back and to see if he can make serious improvement next year with a healthier roster but now they fear a full out revolt from the donor class and fan base and so I have been told they are already making inquiries into possible new coaches.

Sorry, but I have to jump in here. This isn't just based on this season. This is based on three years. EJ our loyal son that I followed when he played on the banks, is a LOUSY college BB coach. He may well be a decent assistant in the NBA, but there too, he wasn't a very good HC. I love EJ the person. I don't however like EJ the BB coach. He's made over $3 million the last three years and we as fans have not gotten $3 million+ in improvement. Even if we didn't have the injuries this season, what do you think our record would be? Maybe 3 conference wins? What about the embarrassing blowouts over the last three seasons? Was it all because of injuries? Or could it have been because EJ isn't a perfectionist and/or knows how to teach defense, blocking out, rebounding, getting over a screen. You know, the little things that are the difference between winning and losing or competing as compared to getting blown out.

For long time fans/alum/donors like me, I've seen enough of EJ. He is not nor will he ever be a good college BB coach. We need to make a new hire after we lose in the B1G tourney. We need someone proven like a Herb Sendek that IS a college BB coach and knows how to take a program like ours and turn it around and make it successful where we're competing and not getting blown out by 20,30,50 points a game. That's why we need to make a change. There's nothing to see here anymore. As a coach, EJ has failed miserably.

News flash for you, but just hiring Sendek is NOT solely the answer. Significant money will need to be spent on assistants as well as the new head coach, not to mention the buyout. EJ gets paid near the bottom of B1G salaries so the salary argument is hogwash. Not sure if any college coach could have came in after the Mike Rice debacle and succeeded in the first 2 years, so yes, it is about this year. This year was the first year he had a roster of guys he recruited, and if healthy, I believe there would have been 4-5 conference wins, which would have been the natural progression from last year.

Yes, I agree that Sendek will need good assistants around him, but for me that's a given. As a former player and coach, I've seen enough of EJ's inability to do the small stuff, the minutiae that makes an average coach a very good coach. IMO, EJ isn't even an average coach. I watch these kids and they never develop under him and the defense is atrocious; the shot selection is atrocious and it never changes. It doesn't matter what you think. A decision is coming very shortly and I don't think EJ will survive.

I may give up my season tix or keep just one as a way to ensure I don't lose priority points for football parking. The past 3 season it has been a chore to go the RAC,,,its not fun and way worse than during Hill, the dwindling number of season ticket holders are only going to get smaller next year if Eddie is brought back. We need a change and a feeling of hope.

It's pretty simple...Hobbs is finally coming around to the idea that 13-19 and 4-14 in Conference next season is not improvement, which as currently constructed and projected, would be our high point for next season.

At least with a new coach and staff and I'm sure some new players, at least it sparks interest, attraction, and possible donations, which is what Hobbs main focus is right now, which means EJ will be let go at seasons end

What new players? If you hire a new coach and staff, you probably lose existing players, don't sign any of the three 2016 recruits and have very little time (and few recruits to pick from) for the current class.

Johnson, Freeman aint going anywhere..neither are Diallo and doorson.....no player is bigger than the program. We are just as likely to have players transfer out if Jordan is retained

1. No one can win with the injuries to this roster.

2. Rutgers Basketball needs to end its cycle of fire, buy out, hire, buy out - in order to have the necessary resources available to invest in a real candidate and leave him with a full roster.

3. If not, the the next coach needs to be given ample time (5-7 years - both in contract length and actual years completing the contract) to allow him to dig out of a whole with limited resources.

I say let that process play out now instead of prolonging it. We'll see what happens.

you are more concerned what a couple of knuckleheads say on a message board (that no one on the outside world reads) then you are of 0-30, 0-37 & 301

because he has no argument, so he and the few supporters left go after the poster as if they are the ones creating the drama...listen the board isn't creating the crapfest, its there already, pretending it doesn't exist doesn't help anyone including the Ad
