All publicity is good, right? Way to make your way onto SportsCenter and the front page of CBS Sports, big fella --

Of course, it looks like Foreman and Daniels didn't know it was 1-and-1 either. Down 8 with 45 seconds left when, you know, most teams would still be, uh, paying attention and trying to, you know, uh, win. Yeah, they must have been thinking about the lack of a practice facility.

Lots of blame to throw around there. Probably would've lost anyway but, seniors should be aware by now of what to be looking out for at the end of games (ie. foul situation, time remaining both game and shot clocks, number of timeouts), but the entire coaching staff should also be making sure the team knows the current situation, whether it's the head coach or the assistants. I don't want to put it solely on Greg though since the staff should've been reminding them as well. During the next dead ball it looked like EJ was mad at the refs for not telling them it was a 1 and 1. Kinda sad.

Feel like this is just another example of how EJ is too used to having NBA players, coaching staff, and rules. I think the announcers were talking about this briefly yesterday that coaching college players requires a higher percentage of focusing on the developing of fundamentals and basics.

Better effort yesterday, better results.. still have some work left to go.

When a coach who's team just made it 8 with about 1 min to go doesn't use one of his 2 remaining TO's to set it up and create that focus what do you expect. We had just been down by 13 and cut it to 8....."play on guys"...no need to coach there.

and BTW..the Mich shooter didn't know either and why was the ref at the top signally "1 shot" after the miss? How could EVERYONE (players, refs, coaches, and announcers) not be focused there? None of them clearly knew the situation.

That was really strange to watch. It appears that everyone, somehow, thought Michigan was in the double bonus (two shots) and not just the bonus (one-and-one).

Exactly! The ref held up two fingers and then he pointed to the foul line after the miss! No one on either team knew, and I would wager one of the refs said "two!"

Agreed. Looks like Lewis was misled by the ref, but he will bear the brunt of the embarrassment.

Coach K in that situation is reminding his team of the situation. So is any other decent coach. Did Eddie?

I disagree. Coach K would have been cursing out the officials while telling them that Michigan is not in the double bonus.

I believe that Rutgers only had eight team fouls.

I thought this thread was going to be about how Greg played hard and was effective despite injuries. I have made it clear my opinion about eddie, but this is not his fault. If ref actually said 2 shots no one is to blame.

That's why I have the OP on ignore. Stupid comments like this and calling out Greg Lewis in the thread topic for a mistake by the Ref.

there had to be a thread about the play...it was a classic. My son said it was Novaesque. Lewis and Nova are senior captains that probably make the bonehead move of the sesaon.

also worth adding here.....the ridiculous dunk attempt by Hawkins that flew 70 feet off the back iron.

Chop -- geez, lovin' the IGNORE function, huh? OK, I've been watching Rutgers basketball for over 40 years. I have never seen this happen before to RU or to anyone else for that matter. It makes Laviano look like a freakin' genius for spiking the ball on 4th down thanks to Norries.

What, do you think this is the first time that a ref ever gave an ambiguous (or wrong) signal? An entire staff and 5 kids can't look at the clock once in a while. How about the manager who's supposed to track fouls? Look at that replay and tell me which of those RU kids look like they were pumped to be coming back and maybe pull out a win in the last minute? Exhausted, resigned to losing or both? Please don't tell me that they were just calm and collected.

UMich won't be the last team that plays down to the #274 team in the U.S. of A and gives the kids a chance to avoid the 0-for. Will they take it next time?

Lewis also could have left with Seagers and the others. Hell if he left Foreman would be the center right now.

FWIW, Beilein apparently didn't tell his guy either. He stood on the line waiting to get the ball back instead of heading to the hoop for the rebound.

I was there. Definitely a ref error, and was acknowledged as such by the off referee as he ran down the court and approached EJ as he was questioned about it.

The crowd didn't react, because nobody could believe it. Lewis holds no blame.

Choppy- the guy who has you on ignore, then has to post every time you do to tell people you are on his ignore, thus not really having you on ignore.

Nah. Eddie would have just recruited another big guy to fill that spot.
Whoever it was sure wouldn't have had trouble duplicating the numbers Lewis is putting up.

It's too bad that the refs couldn't just award us the ball after that play. They clearly caused it, and Michigan had nobody on the line to fight for the rebound. Similar to a fumble with a clear recovery by the defense when an official initially rules the runner down by contact. It was such a surprise to everyone, the cameras didn't even show the ball being passed to the out of bounds referee.
