Is the B10 considering adding Uconn ?(or B12) Article

UConn has affluent market, if not numbers, that advertisers may desire. Addition woiud cut off BC and Cuse and adds New England. I would be perfectly fine with the Huskies. We were developing a nice rivalry. A nice Rutgers/PSU/Maryland/UConn pod as well. Great Hoops addition. Not the worst idea in the world if paired with Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.
If Big Ten expands....I think Vanderbilt comes first, because it would compliment Northwestern well.....why would Vandy leave SEC? It would be because of the overall prestige....I also suspect VU administrators would prefer to get more media exposure to the northeast.

With the fact that we were added for the addition of TV's and clearly not athletics, I would not be surprised with any decision. If the BIG wants a firmer foothold along the Atlantic coast, UCONN is the clear choice since it also brings the two top BB programs and some other olympic sports as well.
True but the 800 lbs gorilla in the corner is they're not AAU. That's a show stopper from what I read.
Yup. Benefits for Vandy: would be among academic peers, better chance to be consistently competitive not playing in a semi pro league. Big ten expands south in contigious state with growing tv market. Win-win.
because they win in both mens and womens hoops. Their name is more relevant on the national collegiate scene than Rutgers. However football drives the bus and that's where their weakness is
Vandy is ranked right there with Ivies and Northwestern academically, and I think the B1G would make such an expansion on that basis. the different media market is just a small benefit. You make this move to strengthen the conference overall.

i could be wrong but i think uconn has won twenty ncaa championships..Rutgers has not won any.I still do not think they get a BIG invite.
Men's fencing. 1869 football. So we are missing a zero at the end. Didn't matter to the Big Ten. We added zeros where it counted. $$$$$$$$
Uconn academics. The 20 titles are mostly women's basketball which no none particularly watches. particularly watches. But the puppies sort of bring something to the table which is men's basketball, that might be a big draw for the Big Ten!

I thought the states needed to touch and NJ does not touch Connecticut last I checked. The final two will be North Carolina and UVA....
For what it's worth, I was told by a reliable source with connections to UMass several weeks ago that UMass has had discussions with the AAC for admittance should UConn depart the AAC. Doubt the link by the OP is connected to this as I'm sure it's simply the AAC expecting UConn to go to ACC or Big 12 should another round of realignment occur.
UCONN WILL be in the B1G in the next 5 yrs...maybe they have only been playing D1 FB for 11 yrs but their a State U and close to AAU and we can't afford to let the ACC have them....basketball success and all i don't know why no one sees their value....everywhere i go their looked down on except in Connecticut..even FF county feels more NY/NJ than Conn...like there a New England/Boston school...no real fanbase outside the boneyard site...Delany seems to like them and thinks between the 2 state schools we can lock down everything north and east of Va... me too with Okie or KU or VT....
IMO I do not believe the BIG is in the mood to expand unless by some miracle ND opts to join. Then the BIG goes looking for another school to make an even 16. I have no clue who that would be, too many variables to factor in at this time. I say this because the only way the BIG expands is if the two additions will create enough money so dividing by 16 produces more money than the current split produces. ND insures that would happen. So I can't see it unless the Irish are in the equation and they do not seem interested in giving up their independent football status. They may change if the current playoff system locks them out of the possible NC opportunity unless they are undefeated, but as of now I think the BIG is pretty comfortable. Especially if RU and Maryland football become very competitive and start lighting up more TV sets.
Nobody's doing anything for another 8-10 years until the GORs expire. Then the ACC takes UConn as a replacement for one of several departures.
And what if Delaney doesn't extend the invite from the conference to UCONN? It could very well be that UCONN will not have made their entry requirements into the AAU.
Has the school been trying to get AAU status btw?
B1G expand? i'd be shocked if it does. even if it does, it would need to happen this year.
just my opinion, but here is why.
inviting RU and Maryland was planned for a long time. it was reported that B1G entertained inviting RU for over a decade or more. the reason why it took so long was because it needed a compelling economics to support a net positive revenue sharing model. over the years, RU's case had so many 'if's with not much facts to back up the theories. that changed in 2006. the RU-Louisville game ratings broke records, which can be used in negotiations as a fact. then, Maryland's financial challenges opened the door. so from 2006, it took almost 6 years for it to happen. B1G does not make impulse moves. it is always calculated.
and, most importantly, B1G's network rights contracts expires at the end of 2016-7 BB season. that's next season. RU and Maryland joined a few years ahead of this to prove the value on BTN before the negotiations go into full steam. in fact, this strategy worked. RU's marquee games with PSU on BTN broke records. again. once this contract is locked in, B1G is good for many years to come. expand? unless ND or Texas come knocking the door, i don't see it. don't think we see B1G expands from now on unless there is a compelling economics reason. does UConn's men's BB does that? i doubt it. football drives the bus.

The ACC GOR it tied into the ACC getting their own network, which is not going to happen, FSU & Clemson may push the issue & try to void the GOR
Close to AAU? Says who? Them?
They're not even close according to the figures that count....the amount of federal grant money they bring in.
I can almost bet the house they won't be in the Big Ten, let alone in less than 5 years.
