I don't care about markets or revenue. The college football fan in me wants Pitt in the east & Oklahoma in the west so we can have the Pitt/Penn State & Nebraska/Oklahoma games back on the calendar.

One out of two ain't bad.
One of these is good?

Best reason I've seen yet for Pitt. I personally don't care about Pitt/Penn State, but I would like to see Nebraska/Oklahoma back on the schedule.

I think expansion is done. Maybe the Big 12 might expand or teh ACC may add some if they lose anyone to the Big12, but that is it.

the SEC, B1G and Pac12 are pretty much set for decades.

With cord cutters growing in numbers, this Big Ten contract might be the final mega dollar TV contract, so there will no longer be any reason to expand anymore.

Any major conference besides the Big 12 would be crazy to try to expand now.

Group of 5 will always move around. Maybe Uconn ends up in the MAC or something, who knows?

are people really suggesting UConn? Their football lacks the infrastructure and recruiting grounds to be capable of competing in the Big 10. Sure any program can win a game here and there but they aren't built to succeed in that conference. Plus they bring absolutely nothing in terms of tv ratings. Basketball does not matter. If the ACC doesn't want them that tells you a lot. The ire of Big 10 alums was already raised when they added Maryland and Rutgers which watered down scheduling meaning less attractive games against the big name schools in the Big 10 to go around so any further expansion will only be with schools with big names bringing both market and interest to the table

Add one team in the east and one team to the west and play one more league game each year

Don't screw with our almost perfect division beyond that....this, if you feel absolutely the need to expand

But in reality, keeping the league as is, is the very best thing for RU

I have argued with you before on this but no its not...Indiana and Maryland feel the same...all 3 are battling to be 5th. It has nothing to do with scheduling which you seem to value that over actually having a shot to win a championship. Take Iowa this year example. Would you rather have a shot at Iowa or would rather have 3-4 losses just because you want to be in the division with the toughest league. For RU to move up and reach their potential they are going to need some help with divisional alignment. IMO it will eventually happen when its apparent Nebby isn't going to reach its status it had back 30 years ago.

UConn would be the worst choice possible. They offer nothing.
*cough*Iowa State*cough*

I tend to agree for the most part. I think the ACC, Big Ten, Pac 12 and SEC are set unless Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma or Florida State decide they need to move.

There might still be reason to expand, but the reasons will be different. If you're trying to sell an unbundled BTN subscription, Having one or more of the football programs I just listed (or one plus say, Kansas basketball) makes that a more attractive option. Plus it give you more content (games) to sell.

What I don't think you'll see with these trends is UNC, UVa, UConn, Pitt, etc. driving any expansion plans. They may coattail one of the programs above, but no one is expanding for them without one of the blue blood brand name programs.

then we just disagree..... I absolutely love having Ohio state, Michigan, Michigan state andPenn state in our division.... that is the true essence of the big
10....

I had no interest joining the big 10 to play Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern every year.... and I think most fans would be less excited to play those on a regular basis.

You seem to be of the mind set that RU cannot rise to the top, I can see a day when we challenge for the best bowl....

again, I don't want to backdoor a way to the big game, play the best, beat the best....

LOL Nicky. I hope I just did. I stay off that cesspool of a board. You can't have a civil discussion with them. They can ejaculate over their women's bball titles till hell freezes over but they're not going to the Big Ten.
UConn best hope is the ACC. For whatever reason, the ACC does not want them. They are not a BIG university and their football plateaued under Edsal.

I think they tried to sue BC when they left the big east and now BC is blocking them.

you really think people care about backdoor..come now that ridiculous...if Iowa beat MSU they were in the playoff and I don't think their fans would be fretting over backdooring things. I just don't get this kind of thinking. You will be waiting a long long time to beat all the best...just ask some other Big 10 schools

I'd love to see UNC and Virginia. Excellent schools and fine athletic programs. Also would enhance other sports like lacrosse and soccer.

I think people care about seeing us play a good schedule at home, so when they buy their expensive tickets they feel it is worth it...

I would be very disappointed if we moved the good teams out of our division.... A steady diet of Northwestern, Illinois, and Purdue, for example would be sad...... For me, nothing much to look ahead for.

It is a good thing Michigan state never gave up in the big 10, they are an example of turning it around that we should follow....a once mediocre team now playing like a top 5 team.

We should aspire for that..... Don't give up after two years already.

Some here can hope and dream about changing or adding on to the divisions, I think the big 10 is happy with them now and we could keep it this way for decades.....

And I think we stay the way we are..... And I love it that way.

I wouldn't want to be part of the west. Tickets sales and ratings would drop.

Flood is no longer here, now we have a real chance to beat some of those top teams, maybe not next year but in a few years.

I wish people were not so shortsighted.

all I am saying is that the divisions are completely unbalanced. It does ruin the schedule to move a Michigan State out to the west and move maybe a Purdue over to this side. You still have 3 of the biggest programs ever on the schedule

and who are Rutgers fans to actually say that playing certain programs are beneath them to play. Northwestern, Illinois and Purdue all have better histories and success than Rutgers and their fans are thinking that Rutgers is the one poisoning the schedule. Looking at it objectively there needs to be a better balance in the divisions. The Big 10 invited two schools but then prompty buried them behind 4 programs with a century of success. On the other side there seems to be weakness with no standouts and I am sure that those programs are lobbying Delaney that their schedule have been altered negatively by all the top schools on the other side

I hear what you're saying, but it sounds so weak for us to complain about competitive balance in Football after only being in the conference for 2 seasons. We need to get better in FB and MBB more than anything else.

you are making the assumption that I am saying these teams are beneath us..... I am not

what I am saying is that those teams might draw 35,000 into our stadium and draw no excitement, more so during a poor season.... if you want the Stadium to be packed
and rocking, play the teams in our division that we have now, with one decent crossover

lets have some excitement at home, not 35,000 fans just trudging in, waiting for a better home game in the future.

and yes, I think the true nature of your complaint is you want an easier path to a division title at the expense of great home games...some are
willing to make that trade, and I am not.

as far as the imbalance goes, who is to say that Wisconsin and Nebraska cannot be top 5 or 10 teams at any point in time?.... just like Michigan state, it changes over time.

and I see no reason why we cannot have a turnaround like Michigan state and be as good as they are right now...

would that not be the very best answer, rather than diluting our schedule?

UVA is terrible at Football, so why add them? for LAX? Maryland already gives us access to Virginia.

UNC - Too many scandals and they suck at Football. Also the ACC is controlled by them so why would they leave?

Texas - keep dreaming. Plus LHN is a non-starter

UND - keep dreaming, plus their NBC contract is a non starter

Uconn is a borderline FCS school at this point and they offer zero new TV markets and terrible football and terrible recruiting market.

I said it before but I really like the Olkohama/Kansas combo.

That being said, I don't think the Big Ten is expanding anytime soon.

We tend to forget, the money, that's $, a school brings to the conf is what counts and the research income for the Big 10 equals the income from the athletics, meaning football.

Might beg to differ with you as Iowa is 12-1 and if that isn't a standout then what is?

I think you missed his point. Iowa is having a great year this year. But in the 5 seasons prior to this year, they only managed to win 5 conference games once. Bac is arguing that it is easier to have great seasons in the B1G West because there are no teams that are consistently great most year. That gives everyone an opportunity to have a breakout season.

Flagship state universities of high population states. Would also help B1G recruiting. Would be my top 2 choices. Would also kneecap the ACC.

In some ways this could be a very accurate comparison. From 1967-2006 Michigan State won 49.7% of their games, compared to Rutgers winning 48.5% over that same time. However, I picked that time frame as Michigan State won four national titles between 1951 and 1966 and Dantonio took over for the 2007 season.

Wisconsin pre-Alverez or Oregon pre-Bellotti are probably more apt comparisons.
