Ash should take Pittsburgh 3 star duel threat QB Thomas MacVittie if he's any good. Pittsburgh lost their Offensive Coordinator and who know when they get one.

Mods said he's a top 10 baseball pick. He isn't going to college.

Penn State is in a battle with USCe for him. The problem with him is that he's a projected first round MLB pick so nobody really knows what he's going to do. He was supposed to be an early enrollee at USCe before Spurrier. Muschamp seems to have made some inroads in keeping him though but don't think he's enrolling early anymore. If he doesn't end up there or in the draft he'll be PSU bound. By the way his Dad went to USCe and he has a lot of family down there so the pull is strong.

This is correct though he seems to really love FB. He'll get to play baseball and football at USCe which apparently has one of he top programs. I believe PSU also gave him that option.

First round MLB > Football.

Much better earnings potential, much longer career, much less long term damage.

Don't care how much he likes football. You don't turn down 1st round money

His dad has said that his son has plenty of time to decide which sport to play long-term while he is in college. I think we made a dent but it won't be enough. He'll end up at USCjr IMO.

You do if your heart is not with baseball. I too would take the money, but I have never been blessed with the option.
Then he needs better advisors. Get your money and then go play football just like Russell Wilson.

Also if he wants to double up on sports he isn't going to ttfp or RU. USCe has a top 10 program in the country for baseball and has won 2 or 3 national championships in the last 6 years.

Since he is coming out of high school, he has leverage (moreso since he has a full football scholarship). Looking at at least a $2.2M signing bonus.
Knew a SF Giants first round pick from an Alabama HS back in the early 2000s. He could have played football too. He took the money ($1M guaranteed) and was in the Giants organization (minors) for 3 years before determining he was not going to make it to the BIGS. He left and went back to Alabama and school. Don't think he regretted the experience and luckily his family helped him save the money so he had it to fall back. If he did not take the money to being with he would have potentially had nothing and he did not come from a family of means. Take the money if it is there.

He is a very good pitching prospect. That said, he is currently nowhere near a first round pick, much less a pick in the first ten selections of the first round. He performed well at PerfectGame Baseball national events, but he was not consistently dominant. If he has a tremendous senior year in high school he could go in the third-fifth round of the MLB draft. That gets you a nice mid six figure bonus. Recognizing you pay taxes on that bonus it is hardly life changing money. The bonus is also not paid in a lump sum. It is paid over two years in two installments. Add to that the fact that minor league players only get $1200 per month (and only get paid during the season) so you need to factor in using the bonus money to live while you are in the minors, which for a prospect like this is likely five years.

Absent unusual circumstances his best approach is to go to college. South Carolina is an elite baseball program and he will obtain top tier coaching. Unlike many other schools, the current AD is the former baseball coach. The baseball program receives huge support from the school.

If he is truly committed to his baseball career going to South Carolina for three years makes sense. At that time if he has truly developed he will receive the same or better bonus and spend less time in the minors.
