No official announcement at this point, though.

You can read details on the football board if you want.

I have to say that I see this as, at best, neutral for WCBB. Hermann seemed to value all sports, not just football and MCBB, and it's not obvious that the next AD will feel the same way. And I certainly would have been more comfortable with her handling the hiring of whoever replaces CVS than with most ADs out there.

Wow - what turmoil.
So, the turnover in CVS staff - was that the result of Hermann or higher level? Probably no answer since the obsession is with the football side of things but we had thought some (one or more) of the departures were less than voluntary and prompted by Hermann trying to help CVS in her last few years at RU. Maybe/maybe not.
I can agree that this may be at best neutral for WCBB. But let us see what they do with the replacement for AD.
Too bad to have a bit of a cloud over the women's soccer team joyful times of going to the Final Four/College Cup.
Meanwhile - Go RU! Beat the Seminoles!

Barchi statement on Flood and Hermann:

To the Rutgers Community:

Today is a day of change for our Department of Athletics.

This afternoon, I spoke with Head Football Coach Kyle Flood and met with Director of Athletics Julie Hermann and informed them that I was exercising the university’s right to terminate their contracts without cause and that I am relieving them of their duties effective immediately.

Kyle Flood has been a loyal and dedicated member of our community for more than a decade and our head football coach for four seasons, during which his teams won 26 games and played in three bowl games. However, our continued struggles on the field combined with several off the field issues have convinced me that we need new leadership of our football program. I want to thank Kyle for his service to Rutgers and I also wish him and his family well in his next endeavor. Norries Wilson will serve as the Interim Head Coach leading our off-season program until a new head coach is hired.

Julie came to Rutgers in 2013, at a time when the program was in turmoil, with a vision of where she could take our Athletics Program. I believe, however, at this point, when major changes are being made in our football program, we need a fresh start. Having reached that conclusion this past week, it would not have been fair to Julie, to Rutgers and our student athletes, or to potential football coaching candidates, for her to continue in her role. She is a capable administrator whose dedication and passion for Rutgers never waned and I wish her and her family all the best in the next step in her journey.

When I made the decision last week that we needed a change in leadership, I set out to find an interim Director of Athletics who could stabilize the Department before launching a national search. On a strong referral, I met with Patrick Hobbs, Dean Emeritus of the Seton Hall University School of Law, who previously led the athletics program at Seton Hall University during a period of major change. In addition to these assignments, Pat has served on various state legal and ethics boards and commissions and most recently was appointed by Governor Christie to serve as an independent ethics ombudsman to the Office of the Governor. In my meetings and conversations with Pat, and also with Board Members Greg Brown and Ken Schmidt, it was clear to all of us that Pat had the attributes required for our next Director of Athletics. We offered Pat the permanent job on Friday and we are proud to welcome him as our new Director of Athletics.

The search for a new Head Football Coach will begin immediately and will be led by Pat Hobbs, with input from Greg Brown, Ken Schmidt, and me. We all believe that Rutgers football can be competitive in the Big Ten Conference and we will find the right coach who can get us to that place.

In the coming days and weeks, you may read and hear rumors, speculation, opinions, and concerns regarding the football search. I ask for your patience and trust, as the leaders of your University help write a new chapter in our history.

We thank Julie and Kyle for their service to Rutgers, and I thank all of you for your continued support of this great institution and I know you join me in welcoming Pat Hobbs to our family.
I said this on the football board, but it bears repeating: The gist of what he says about Hermann is that she did a good job but is being fired anyway. That leads me to think that there was a group of big donors (probably, to be blunt, Pernetti loyalists who still were mad about him being fired) who said they weren't going to keep giving unless she was fired. If that's right, and particularly if they were people still upset about Pernetti, then shame on them, and maybe shame on Barchi, too.

As far as FB GOES....Greg Schiano or AL Golden....preferably Greg if he's interested...finish the job Greg.

I think that CVS letting go of her assistants was a way for Julie to save $ when handling CVS contract which was pretty controversial because of how much money she made. Also isn't CVS contract up at the end of this year? is it being renewed yearly? I think Julie would have done a bang up job picking a successor but I think this guy Hobbs fired Mangina at SHU and she was there forever

I believe CVS's contract is 4 years, with buyouts of 35 percent of the remaining amount at the end of this season and 50 percent of the remaining amount at the end of next season. I would guess that it wouldn't pay to fire her at the end of this season unless things go way south.

There is no reason in my opinion that C Viv should leave before her full contract is up. She's earned that much and even in a bad year its most likely that Rutgers would still go over .500. She is shooting for 1000 wins I think and I'll be to every game I can to support her and the ladies on her way there.

Actually CVS took a pay cut ( from what I understand) , so the assistants leaving might not had to do with money as much as Stringer needing to try to change the way RU played.
Can't say one way or another, because don't know who was pay what and what is being paid replacements.
I thought Vivian's contract was fully guaranteed the first 2 years then no guarantee for the last two. Glad to see 35% and 50% instead of the 0 I thought

So far the team seems to be getting in gear and showing promise.
Know some fans were worried and expressed that.
Hope they feel a little better now.
Haven't seen any posts from them when RU started winning.
Probably didn't look hard enough [winking]

AS for Hermann, just think Barchi held her back and allowing her to take more of the blame than she deserves.
Flood being suspended , not fired. over e-mail mess wasn't her fault in my opinion and Barchi
deflected criticism on his handling Flood by letting everybody think Julie was more part of the problem than she was.
Hermann might have deserved to go, but Barchi deserves a lot of the blame over what wasn't done that needed to be done.

So....congrats on being fired....whats that supposed to mean to the employee...not to worry i'm proud of you...your fired...lol..

I think that the reference being made was to Christie (was he visiting NJ?) congratulating our new AD, his former employee.

Yes, that's right... but i think he phoned in his congratulations from out of state. He's been phoning it in for a long time, so why would this be any different? ;-)

The reason why this season has been so tough already is because CVS took a pay cut to make Julie happy, her contract isnt long enough to make the assistants want to stick aorund so they left for greener pastures and took their recruits with them (they are the ones doing the scouting and recruiting for the years leading up to signing day) so she had to scramble and sign who she could and get some inadequate assistants who would be willing to absorb her short contract in connection with her own. Additionally she has to teach all of the assistants her system as well as the players.

Basically what Julie did was mess up the only good spotlight program rutrgers had to its name and hire FB coach that was sub standard all in the name of saving money and in the end she and Flood are both in the same unemployment line and rutgers is left struggling more than they needed to be.

PS - recruits are hesitant to sign with a coach who is only gonna be there forhalf or 3/4 of their years of eligibility...so you can thank Julie for that too.

For what it's worth, lots of recruits sign with coaches who have 1 or 2 years left on their contracts. Kahleah, for instance.

Wow, people cry for change and say new blood not connected to Vivian is needed , than knock the quality of the new hires instead of welcoming them.
Reminds me of those who were knocking the team and Stringer before the Women started winning
making themselves and feelings known on this board. Once the Ladies started winning, not a peep out of them and their presence wasn't felt on this board.
I'm sure if there's something to knock, they will let this board they are still around.

As for not being able to get good assistants because of only having 2 years guaranteed then 50% and 35% ( from what was posted on this board) the last two years of CVS' contract, look who was hired and tell me they aren't qualified:

I'm not sure where you got the info about WBB, but your FB is completely wrong. Flood was hired by Tim, not Julie.

Wow Lot of bad-information in this post. True, everything has fallen on the HC.as the new players and the assistant coaches don't know the system. Her former assistants leaving tells me that they were informed by Stringer to seek other employment, because her departure will be very soon..

Could be right.
I felt once I seen the terms of her contract she would be considering retiring after the second year because of the reduced buyout ( originally I thought there wasn't a buyout after 2 years and she could be let go without RU paying a dime for the remaining years on contract).
I still feel the two year mark will see her leave and now with Hobbs as AD it's more than likely if RU doesn't make the dance.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if she gets the Coach Emeritus status and remains part of the program in some way for what would have been her last two years on her contract.
