Let's make the Basketball Board Great

I posted this in another thread, but, I wanted to make a separate one.

I really hope the basketball does not get infected by the type of posters that are now dominating the free Football board.

IMHO.....this board has some really good discussions focused on basketball (and some cordial / respectful disagreements). I know I have to watch how/what I post at times...lol

I hope it stays that way and we never have dudes coming in and posting stupid one liners. Even if the team does not play well in any given game or part of a game, the discussion should focus on what needs to improve as opposed to bashing individual players or coaches.

I agree, however the people that are left on this board are the true diehard basketball fans. This board used to be very active (in fact for a long long time the record for the most people on the Rutgersfan boards at one time was a result of a basketball (non) commitment, not a football commitment, remember who?), but losing season after losing season dwindled the numbers to a couple dozen.

If we start to get good again, then more fans will come back, and I am sure this basketball board will be similar to what the football boards are now.

It's been a rough couple of years for bball for sure, and the board reflects it. But I have been encouraged by most of the posting lately (not all, but most) and in particular impressed by a couple of the newer posters.

You might want to remember who butters your bread.
And, that RAC is falling apart slowly but surely. The product on the field has a direct correlation to funds received by the University. Funds that will build the new basketball arena, improve recruiting, as well as turn the basketball program around.
So, don't be such hypocrites. The reaction of football(Rutgers Fans/Alumnus) is perfectly normal, considering the ineptness of it's football coaching staff. To do nothing, say nothing, write nothing is an insult to ALL of Rutgers Athletics, and the pride of which is Rutgers University! Or at least the "pride" we are trying to instill.
You might want to get on board.

Wow! First I'm a hypocrite, now I'm ignorant. Trust me, I have firm grasp on the situation concerning the funding (or lack of funding) for Rutgers athletics. To claim that the basketball fans should place their hopes for a new arena on the success of the football program is laughable. Don't you have another witty Flood post to make on the other Board? Go away!

It can get just as bad here as the football board, especially when we're doing horribly and/or experiencing scandals, like the FHJ and Rice scandals. There's a lot less traffic, though, so the number of negative posters and posts is simply less, but we'll see them. Also, I think Eddie has been given a longer leash, given the absolute mess he inherited, combined with him being one of our own and remembered so fondly. But if we're still seeing 12 win seasons 2 years from now, the knives will come out. I'm hopeful, though, that Eddie is starting to turn this thing around. As I said in my other thread, I like this team...

The only people that don't like the football board I think are those few people that think Flood is doing a great job and we would be crazy to replace him.

I've essentially stop posting here - I have very low expectations, but have zero interest in participating where any negative posting is shouted down. I like this team and feel good about players like Sanders and Freeman, but do not see more than 10 -12 wins. Given the bad state of the program, my expectations have always been that getting near .500 next year is a reasonable goal, and that a seven year rebuild is insane. While I hope for good things, I think the complete wash out in the Fall recruiting period is very, very troubling.

I'll read some, hope for the best, but for the most part keep my mouth shut this year.

Always post. Free speech is exactly that, given to everyone. I think 10-15 wins is do able. If we reach 15, we might have a shot at a better recruit. I firmly believe our team has good things in the future if they continue to play the way they are.

Chop, no one should not be able to post because they feel they are going to get called out. Can we use more positivite-sure. I trust in the team to turn em around though. But everyone, especially fans that have been trekking to the RAC for a long time, has the right to post here. When the team turns around, so will they.

It's not my place to tell people not to post, but, I can certainly encourage people to post comments that lead to serious discussions about basketball.

I don't think anyone (including BM) wants this board to turn into the football board. That board is full of posts like, "Flood sucks", "This player is horrible", "that player sucks" or "the team sucks". Those type of comments add nothing of value to a forum where people want to discuss basketball on a serious level.

Are those type of comments free speech? Sure they are, but, they are worthless and contribute nothing......except proving that the poster lacks knowledge of game so they can only post one liners.

You are right. Ripping our own players is stupid.

I'd like to see LCP come back, assuming he's still out there.

Unfortunately....
1. there is a very small amount of people that care about men's basketball (as opposed to football)
2. Those that do are in Stage 5 of dealing with Grief-----Acceptance

The overly negative posters posters that just bash and won't admit anything looking positive:
Should be shouted down !!!
The overly positive posters that refuse to see or admit the program has some faults to overcome before it can be considered on the rise, needs to be shouted down.

Everyone in the middle , seeing the light or clouds still blocking the sun, needs to respect another person's point of view that goes against theirs ,to make this board as good as it can be when discussing RU MBB.

That said: I'm right and if you disagree ( insert insult here :D)
