Well, I guess we will see on Saturday. I would take my chances with the OL being able to run block over pass block.

Pass blocking isn't all on the OL. Hack tends to hold the ball too long, and he's almost immobile. The offense often doesn't look as if it's on the same page.

I wasn't in the stands, but the rain didn't look too heavy to me on television.

Neither was I, unfortunately, I was actually driving to a wedding reception during the 4th quarter and, IIRC, both times Wazzou had the ball Carlin specifically stated "the rain coming down much heavier now..."

The rain was NEVER heavy - it was very light, mainly spitting a bit, for most of the 4th quarter. Only for a 5 minute stretch did it get heavy enough to consider breaking out the rain gear.

Still like your quarterback better. Do not like Laviano, hope he proves me wrong.

PSU is slightly better than last year, probably. Rutgers is not. Big swing having night home game at PSU compared with first Big 10 night home game for Rutgers last year. If PSU can run the ball, Hack should be able to throw some. Run has to set up the pass. PSU has a much below average punting game and field goal game.

So which was it: "NEVER heavy" or "heavy enough" for a 5-minute stretch? LOL, I was just watching the 4th quarter again this morning and, no doubt, it was coming down pretty damn heavy the last 5-minutes or so. Maybe you just didn't "feel" it by that time buddy as the single-malt kicked was kicking in!!

Enjoy your last "winnable game" against TTFP as the program says goodbye to the coaching change and sanctions era.
Can we get a consistent message at least? Last year after we lost PSU fans were over here crowing about how that was our once in a lifetime shot to ever beat them, but here we are a year later with a similar theme. If Franklin gets fired do we get a third chance of lifetime during the "transition" year?

Saquon Barkley is the X factor. Once he got in the game in the second half last week PSU became a different offense.

Granted Buffalo was worn down at that point so our OL was able to give him room to run. If our OL can get Barkley going PSU will win. If not could be an ugly battle of the field goal kickers.

I watched your game yesterday in its entirety. I'm no brilliant mind, but these are two pretty bad football teams. I don't know why people on here are thinking that we will be able to chuck the ball around the field as the weakest part of our entire team is pass blocking. IMO, the key to the game is our rushing attack. Our OL has shown the ability to run block and it will keep you honest and not allow you to pin your ears back and blitz if we can get the running game going. If we can't, very difficult for us to win. You may actually be able to run on us as well as our DTs are great, but they are meant to allow the LBs to make plays. The LB group that played yesterday is not your typical PSU LB group. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I thought the young LBs played pretty well. Reeder I thought played an excellent game. Looks like a good one.

I don't think PSU fans realized how much the sanctions would hurt. PSU's game depth proably won't catch up with their practice depth (70 Soph/RS Frosh/Frosh) until 2017 or so.

Rutgers can win this game...but..generally teams don't end up beating PSU withhout an experienced QB. Walker at Temple has played a lot, they had a senior last year at NW, and a 6th senior at Maryland in 14. PSU LB crew has been decimated, giving opposing offenses a bit more help.

I think you guys will really struggle this year, Rutgers has never been great at breaking in new QB's. Nova had his flaws but he was a savvy vet and a team leader. Things are simply heading south at RU right now when they need to be ticking up. The best coaching in the world won't hold up unless you simply start recruiting better. And now you have PSU, UM, and Ohio State stopping by every school in New Jersey that is going to be tough. If you "athlete up" you risk the chance of taking guys who are not going to a powerhouse for a "reason" (see current headaches), and if you simply rely on coaching 2* kids up they will get overpowered and ran by.

I'll judge PSU's coaching once they are on an even playing field in 2017-18. If you watch PSU (many of you do) you'll see younger kids repeately taking snaps from older kids.. as they are simply better athletes. This will stop happening in about 2017-18, at that point we can let the talented youngsters ease in. PSU needs help in the trenches and the incoming kids including our frosh this year really look like some high-end kids.

In 2015 PSU simply has to run the ball.. even if it's 3.5 yards per carry it will take away the pass rushing legs of the opponents. If the coaches are not stubborn and let Barkely and Scott run the ball that 3.5 might be a much more productive number. This will work against RU, Maryland, NW.. it will work against everybody but tOSU and MSU who have talented depth behind the starters.. the whole key to being a dominant team in the BIG is to have starting level players at the 2 spots on your depth chart, and tOSU and MSU have that right now.-sg

Well, then if you're that sure you can make a bundle betting Rutgers. Will you?

no...because I'm emotionally vested, and I'm not going to bet against PSU.

The only time I'd every bet on PSU...is when they're underdogs...and I think they can cover (like last year's OSU game....the spread was strange from the start especially after getting trounced by 50 the year before). If they win?...bonus! If they lose and at least cover, not a bad consolation. The worst is to bet on PSU when they're favored and they don't cover......ruins the victory, hence will never do it.

but...if I wasn't emotionally vested....I'd take Rutgers and the points.

you think PSU's going to kill em, eh?.....hey man, I hope you're right.

Nowhere did I say that. I was simply asking how sure you were about that 10 pt. spread? You know that the spread, in simple terms, means that about half the bettors are picking one and half are picking the other. If it gets a little lopsided, the spread changes to more or less even it out again. I like to look at it this way. A bettor can make an argument either way about whether the spread will be covered or not.

I'm not a gambler. what does this mean? you bet $100 on Rutgers, you win $300?.....I don't know, is that typically a lot?

Seeing PSU -380 ML right now. Means you need to bet $380 on PSU to win $100

My site has Rutgers at +321 meaning you bet $100 on RU to win $321.

I know the Scarlet Knights have some guys out and yes it's a night game at Beaver Stadium, but these lines are off IMO. This is going to be a really close game like last year.

That line is a good sign for PSU. The line is teasing the public to take Rutgers and the points. Usually when a line looks too easy you want to go the other way.

That's my take on it anyway.

I was one of those fans last year, and I admit I was wrong. I didn't think we'd lose our LT, TE or DE to the draft -- especially the LT, which hurts the most right now.

Instead of having an average OL like I'd hoped, we're just as sucky this year as last year at the OL (at least, we are that bad if Nelson is out, which most PSU fans think he is).

So, I admit I was wrong last year.

Can some Rutgers fans talk about your defensive front seven? If that unit is any good, then this will be a low scoring game that can be won/lost by an ill-timed turnover or something to that effect.

Northwestern actually had a mediocre offensive game against PSU last year with two missed XPs, a makable missed FG and an interception in the red zone. Main reason Penn State lost was they got 50 yards rushing, their receivers weren't getting open, and Hack was getting stoned. Don't be so sure they'll run over NU this year. I doubt the PSU o-line is better than Stanford's.

We were a good team prior to losing 3 of our top 6 db's during camp. Now we are a team with a major weakness that other teams will look to exploit, and we don't have the best coaching.. If we had not lost the db's I think we would have won yesterday. They threw 66 times so our guys had to be tired and we had to sub in inexperienced players.

We couldn't run on PSU last year but that was before Hicks and Martin emerged, hopefully this leads to better rushing. Our front 7 D starters are good. To the questioner above, RDE is Turay - freaky athletic but raw, NT is Joseph 295 and very strong but wearing and arm cast so not sure if that is affecting him, 3T is Hamillton a great player with great technique but a little light, and the other end is Mera, strong solid player, maybe not as qucik as some other DE's. Hamilton has been hurt but the backup Pinnix-Odrick has been playing well. The LB's are all experienced, with MLB being a 5th year transfer from S Carolina.

We need to run on offense and pressure Hack on D. I think we see a few scrambles from our qb. The way PSU played against OSU last year is a concern, hope the players and fans don't get up for our game like that.

Penn State blows, and if RU had any leadership from its seniors, they would beat this overrated team by 10 points. But since the team is void of any disclipline at all, they will commit 4-5 turnovers and a 100 yds of penalties to piss this game away! Damn shame!

Over/Under posted now at 45 points.
So that's saying like 28-17 PSU or something like that plus or minus.

Watching the Northwestern PSU game last year I thought that Wartman's injury that game at linebacker seriously hurt PSU.

TTFP's schedule now looks much harder as NW is very good and Illinois will not be a push over.

Really I do not see how either makes a bowl, both needed to go undefeated against their cupcakes.

Meyer and D'Antonio must be pissed between us and MD we are going to kill their SOS though maybe they will appreciate the chance to give backups some time during 2q cleanup.

Yes, but that had nothing to do with Northwestern's defense dominating the Penn State offense. Assume Wartman's absence was worth two TDs, and Northwestern STILL wins the game. Walker, the LB who had a pick-6 against Hack that game, was a freshman substitute for our senior starter and defensive signal-caller.

Our (RU) D Line has been somewhat disappointing so far. Not sure how much pressure they will generate even with Penn St's poor O line. Hamilton out, Turay not in last year's form (hardly practiced for 6 months), NT doesn't get much penetration, Mera possibly banged up, and JPO doing probably the best of the D line so far. Might have to blitz more to get pressure.

This could be a close game, and the homer in me likes to think it will be, but unfortunately I don't think the Vegas lines are too far off. Our quarterback is making his 2nd career start in a night game on the road in front of 100k fans, and just lost his best receiver (and our team's best player). On the D-Line side, where we really need to outplay your O-Line, our top D-Lineman from last year (Hamilton) is still out with an injury, and our best pass rusher (Turray) has been playing through an injury and hasn't looked like himself.

I hope we can keep it to a close low-scoring game, get a few turnovers, make a few big plays, and pull out the win. But - and it pains me to say this - I can see where the Vegas lines are coming from.

What position is Lambert playing?

And I think most RU guys here are really underestimating how bad our offense is. If your defensive front seven had a pulse, this will be a low scoring game where one mistake could change the outcome. I'm thinking a 16-13 type game.

Good luck guys and girls, see you Saturday.

Neither fan-base has much faith in its own team at this point...This is like the reverse trash-talking thread.

I think it's going to be very difficult for RU to put together a solid effort after the deflating loss to WSU and the loss of yet another key player (and emotional leader). I actually think the 10-point line is about right... Penn State seemed to figure some things out in the second half against Buffalo.

I think you are underestimating how good WSU line is. That's not just my opinion the stars prove it. Plus, PSU won't line up 5 wide so we can blitz more and Even though Hack didn't get sacked last week he was not even close to throwing for 300 yds.
