I was prohibited from bringing in an open bottle of water (no cap) and my kids were not allowed to bring in a ziplock bag with some snacks. Did they change the policy this year? I don't recall any prohibition on food in prior years and thought they only had a no-cap policy on beverages.

And I think the gate attendants use some discretion. I think unopened bottles of water are fine. Other beverages are not. Some have said they have brought in food. May be dependent on gate attendant. They seem easier on the East side of the stadium than on the North side.
Why do you need to bring in water? It's only $4 a bottle (same price as a case at Costco.)

Rutgers should have concession stands that only sell bottled water and soft drinks. So at least people looking for a cold drink can get one quickly, without having to stand in a long line.
(And to continue beating the horse that gas been dead for many seasons: the concession workers suck. They are slow and don't seem to know what they're doing. Rutgers is leaving a lot of concession money on the table because opt to buy nothing, rather than wait in slow lines.)

My kid brought in a bagel each in a zip lock bag. And I brought in 8 water bottles in a specified clear handled bag. Perfectly within the policy. Don't know what the issue was. I have seen the policy not equally enforced though. Woman routinely get away with bringing in bags which are supposed to be hand bags only.
Don't get me started on the cap rule. Its dumb, always has been. There is no rational, or scientific reason to sell me a soda or water and take the top off. its hard to carry mutiple bottles and of course I don't have to mention what happens when they get knocked over. My kids even did an experiment and proved that if you throw a bottle with a cap off, there isn't enough time for the water to come out to make a substantial difference in its mass if you were to throw it at some one and hit them. If you don't believe this. Have your friends throw capped bottles and full open bottles at you from 20 ft. and see if the uncapped bottles hurt less.
When they charge $7 for a small Rita's it's time to up the smuggling.

Maybe everybody isn't as rich as you, has lost a job or is on a fixed income. I have donated plenty over the years. Sorry, 32 bucks for 8 waters is too rich for my blood.
And no need to gouge people for lukewarm water on a hot day for $4 without a cap, which will spill when it falls over.
pretty much. didn't do it this year, but last year got rejected at the student entrance for my wife bringing in a purse. moved around to the side and got in with a "diaper bag". it's totally arbitrary. food and drink tend to be fine if the drinks are sealed.
I know. Stadiums always do. But hey think of it as a $7 donation for a free water.
The policy differs from gate to gate and inspector to inspector. Put a bottle of water in your back pocket and cover it with your untucked in shirt. This is not rocket science. Also, I have never , ever had a problem getting in a sandwich or whatever food in a clear zip lock bag.
Next time you recycle water bottles at home save the caps. Bring a few caps with you and no worries about spillage.
Is it really? My impression, which may be incorrect, is that a new vendor took over from dining services in Pernetti's last year. Rutgers collects from that while the vendor is left to gouge the customers in order to make a decent profit. I don't know if Rutgers gets a cut of each chicken nugget or not.
It's ironic that when you bring in your own bottle of water, it MUST have a cap! SMH.
I bring sandwiches, chips, and a six of Poland Spring to every game, and never have had a problem, regardless of gate. I make sure to go right up to the guards with my bag open so they inspect it, and they always give me the go-ahead. As for water consumption, when the temp's not in the 90s, I drink three bottles during a game, during this last game I drank 4 bottles. Southern and Lady drank the other two. Easy peasy, and didn't cost $24 for the water alone.
I can't imagine food sold at the stadium doesn't benefit the program or the athletic department. If it doesn't then I retract my original statement.
Disney of all places allows food into the parks,,,the magic words are ..I am borderline diabetic(which I am)and may need a snack...its a liability issue to them.......................

Impressive, but how much of the second half did you miss being in the men's room ?
None. I am like a camel. LOL. Drank another 32 ounces on the way home. After surgery last year, I was advised to drink at least 96 ounces of water per day, and I adhere to that. Helped me lose a bunch of weight too.
Mexico's water is really American water because the water flows down there thanks to gravity.

Agree, there should be places that sell only beverages. Are the concessions staffed by non-profit groups who get a percentage of the sales?
Not sure if joking but I would love to find out the percentage of the concession take that goes directly to Rutgers football. I'm guessing the number is zero.
They don't even need additional tubs of ice. They just need a sign that says "drinks only".
For example, the cheesesteak stand already has a tub of ice with drinks in it. But it only has one long line for people who want cheesesteaks and people who only want drinks.
If they put up a sign that said "drinks only", then you'd have a fast moving drink line and a slower line for people who want food.
The concession stand staff are volunteers. My sister in law worked there 2 years back and my wife's friend did the same. They workers do not get paid.
