3 run walkoff homerun in bottom of the 9th. Cards deserving of yet another dozen roses from Flushing.

Just as soon as the announcers on MLB network said that the Nats pitcher has thrown 18 pitches and his era after I believe 15 pitches was over 11.00, next pitch bam!!!!

Collins was asked about using Parnell in the sixth. His explanation was that Familia was unavailable, Clippard was closing (if a closer was needed), and Reed was being saved for the eighth. Logical so far, but then it breaks down. Collins acknowledged that he had other options, but he went with Parnell because:
  • It was the bottom of the order and he thought Parnell could gain confidence.
  • Parnell looked good throwing BP.
Um, OK, I guess.

Time for Harvey to be Harvey. Nasty game day attitude with a little chin music to tell philly he's not Fking around today. Team chasing you is trying to give you the division walking away. Go take the damn thing and be able to rest pitchers the last ten days of the season.

This. Finish today up 6.5 or up 7.5. Even if in the unlikely event we lose all 6 to the Nationals, the Mets should still win the division. Still a little worried about the Braves and the Yankees, who have been playing lights out lately.

No Tex vs Mets? Braves gave up 6000 runs vs Yankees last week . Sept 7-8-9 vs Nats. Rest of schedule for each teams is pathetic. Win tonight , day off tomorrow , head to Miami and play in front of 4000 fans in which 2500 are mets fans.

I agree. Well other than the chin music thing. No need for that. Not after they beat us one game after we've been pounding them all year. That would be very bush league, not to mention put some of our players at risk for a retaliatory strike or injury or suspension should it lead to a brawl.

The braves and the yankees? what?
Prof. Genius. They play the Braves 6 times. Mets are 6-6 against the Braves, and they have always been tough for the Mets. Mets have 3 games against the Yankees, and they are 0-3 this year against the yankees, who have been playing lights out lately. This is the Mets. They need to go at least .500 against the Braves and Yankees.

I mean huh because the Yankees have hardly been lights out. They've been mediocre...they were 14-14 in August. In fact, that's the definition of mediocre.

The Braves are horrible. They're 25 games under .500 and have won once in their last ten. They are positively without question one of the worst teams in baseball. The only reason the Yankees are even mediocre in August is because the Braves suck so bad.

I guess I was just confused about the "lights out" and "worried" comments. Neither seems to make sense.

Feel good about Harvey tonight but worried about whether he will get the needed run support. Certainly hasn't of late.

6-0! Quick, Collins! Put in O'Flaherty before this one gets out of hand! Harvey needs the rest and the batting practice pitchers we call a bullpen needs the work.

Fair enough. But after last night and after years of being a Mets fan, I take nothing for granted. Hard to tell if the Braves are really good or the Yankees are lights out. Mets have always had a problem with the Braves.

.235 hitting Zimmerman trying to save Nats season. Hitting HR all over the place in last few weeks. Second HR tonight gives Nats lead. Harper left game early with left hip injury

They reported Harper left with a tight glute. I've never heard that before. It sounds like he pulled a butt cheek. I hope it's not serious.
The only ring he's getting this year is a donut ring to sit on.

Conforto should go nowhere. Should be playing every day at this point, but can cope with an occasional sit against a lefty.

The Nats are dead in the water. There will be champagne in the citi field clubhouse sometime in late September, which is pretty mind boggling when you think about the preseason projections....not that it was unthinkable the Mets could get to 90 wins bit that the Nats would also implode.

I'd like to have seen the Mets pitch Neise against the Marlins and have scheduled Matz to face the Nats. He's better and the Nats haven't seen him yet. Neise drop in velocity over the last two years means that he has to be precise with his location and movement or he gets hit hard. He's not what he was.

I am no Collins fan but having Matz pitch in his first game back vs the Nats may be a tough decision.

What the Mets should have done is have Matz pitch with the Mets several days ago and had all gone well - then have him open up against the Nats with 1 good game under his belt.

But then again our brilliant manager decides to pitch Parnell 2 days ago in the heat of a pennant race in a close game to give him "confidence" and then follow that up with O'Flaherty and Torres.

Can't fault Terry for throwing Parnell in the water, Sink or swim and he drowned, but we have a commanding lead in the division and we need to sort out our middle relievers. The Beard will now need to prove he deserves such a shot again. He'll get less meaningful innings, but hopefully enough to separate himself from the 2 above.

David wrong is one of the most overrated players EVER. He has made a killing in his career taking a game 4-0 to 6-0 and a 8-1 game 8-4. He had one big hit in the world baseball classic. Capt. choke And it's always some weak *** grounder or a GIDP
