All that said, the losses this weekend have been on the hitting, which at least for two games has crept back closer to what it was 4 weeks ago than what it has been since. We can hope it's just a bad two days.

Yep. In 19 innings they scored only one run that wasn't gifted to them.
Baseball is cyclical, like the stock market the last 2 weeks. Could not expect that output to continue. Ironically, the huge breakout occurred on the road, where the Mets are supposed to be weaker, and they lay 2 eggs in their first 2 home games against Boston. That's baseball.

Bring on the Phillies, and the Nats have 3 at St. Louis. Let's see if this lead can get stretched to 8.5.

Uribe at second could be the end of Tejada. For some reason he can't charge a ground ball correctly.
Second time seeing rookie in 5 days should be advantage mets. "Should". Let's go Cards! Vs a righty tomorrow ,Collins usually goes lefty heavy , but how can you keep out Cuddyer ?

Great win today!....Was at the game.....and it continues to mystify me how Collins continues to play Lagares and Tejada against anyone...let alone lefties.....both are rally killers and plain awful......if you want to play them - do it for defensive purposes and maybe once a week to spell the big guys - but to have them plus Recker (though he got a big hit today) in the lineup at the same time is almost losing intentionally......I think Lagares and Tejada today were 0 for 7 with RISP...with not 1 AB being close to driving in a run......It's the stretch run now and Collins has to go with his best 8 - with some platoons - with Tejada and Lagares not part of that.....

Agree about Lagares not playing but I'm ok with Tejada in the lineup. However, like you said, it's suicude playing Lagares, Tejada, and Recker together...and to think a few weeks ago we had them in there with Nieuwenheis (sp) or Mayberry..the Japanese little league team could out-hit that bunch.

I was at the Met-Dodger game when Mayberry hit cleanup and Campbell hit fifth. Hard to think that was only six weeks ago.

Anyway, Lagares was playing only because Cespedes was being rested for the first time since he got here. Recker was playing because Plawecki isn't here yet, but he will be soon. Tejada was playing because he is their best shortstop.

Flores is the Mets best SS......and Collins continues to play Lagares against lefties.......Tejada made 2 bonehead defensive plays today - including in the 9th inning - that almost cost us the game - and he plays too damn deep.

As a right hand hitter, Lagares will continue to play against lefties, against whom he has a .784 OPS. I don't see how Collins can be criticized for that.

It is probably true that Flores is a better all-around player than Tejada. But if you think Flores is a better defensive SS than Tejada, let's just say that you're taking a contrarian position to put it mildly. Granted neither are very good and neither are a long term SS solution IMO. I was surprised that Reynolds did not do enough to warrant a callup. We do have Cecchini and Rosario in the pipeline.

As a Yaknee fan it seems the Mets always struggle with the Sox (the only time I loudly and vocally root for the Mets). I mostly remember 2006 when the Yankees were in a heated race with Boston, rhe Mets were actually good, Pedro pitched for the Mets, and the Sox swept all three to my chagrin. Nice to see them get the win with the Sox actually climbing in the wild card race.

As for Familia, dayum he makes it interesting. Whew.

Callups announced. Plawecki, Campbell, Nieuwy, and EYJ come up tomorrow. Also Parnell and Matz will come off the DL, with Goeddel and eventually Duda to follow. Alvarez is eligible to come up on Thursday. Verrett will be back the following week.

It will be nice to have a pinch runner on the club in EYJ. Also nice to be able to spell d'Arnaud with Plawecki instead of Recker and of course, to have Matz back. I could do without seeing Nieuwy or Campbell, however.

The Mets have 32 games left. If they play .500 ball (going 16-16) they will win 88 games. The Nationals would have to go 23-10 in their remaining games to capture the NL East.

BTW, Mets are 18-1 this year v. the Phillies and the Rockies. It would be great if they can take 2 out of 3 from the Phillies and 2 out of 3 from the Marlins this week before the big series in Washington next week.

Look closer. He gave up one soft liner to left. The rest was Tejada not charging a slow bounding ball to short and Familia and his new 95mph splitter looking pretty darn nasty. That's what must be accounting for all the consecutive scoreless innings he has now.

I swear these Cards are like a machine this season. And tonight I'm happy for it. October not so much.

Agree. I think Lagares has been solid in this platoon with Conforto. Now when Duda returns that will probably become more like a Conforto-Cuddyer platoon. It's funny how not too long ago some here were calling for Cuddyer to be sent away someplace.

Why couldn't Colon finish this game? He was on fire.
Because if Colon gives up a baserunner in the ninth, you are bringing in Familia anyway. You are warming him up anyway. So why not give him the clean inning, rather than have him enter in a jam? Familia had not given up a run all month!

Yes, there was a day when the starting pitcher would finish this game. That day was at least 15 years ago.

I feel strongly that most managers would have done the same thing Collins did. Don't make it right or wrong, but it does make it not crazy.

Would have liked to have tried to save Familia with a 3 run lead and Colon cruising. At least, they held on.

Yeah, but once Tejada is as old as Japan's starting 2B, he'll catch up as a hitter

The sooner they send this guy packing, the better. Five runs in each of his last three starts.

Unfortunately the Mets haven't been hitting well enough the last several games to dig Niese out of his idiot hole.
