I don't get your point. Was just saying he had some level of success prior to Cason also. East Rutherford was group 1 but played a mix of schools. Used to be part of Passaic Valley Conference which were a number of a Group IV schools. Played Brian Taylor and Perth Amboy (I believe) one year.
AND The great Passaic teams were in that conf. as well. The PVC was no pushover and represented the best in NJ among others, including the Big 10 (Montclair, East Orange, some Newark Teams, etc.)

BTW. In the 76 FF against Mich. RU couldn't buy a basket in the 1st half. I never saw so many clunkers by RU...ever. Loyal was dead on. 2nd half, they played pretty much dead even but could not close the 1st half gap.

They played well in the consol game against an excellent UCLA team, but the height differential showed up in the waning moments. Still, an undefeated RU team against the undefeated Bobby Knight Indiana team would have been one heckuva showcase.

Rodney had a hot and cold relationship with Tom...and started out really well in first game or two in 78-79. He went down hill quick...and I remmebr we went to the CatHouse to play nova and got smacked really good that night (we went to 2-2) and that was in Rodney's hometown (Philly) and something happened after that and then he was thrown in the dog house and then off the team
At the time, I heard there were racial tensions involved. Never confirmed. But that was the story among fans close to the team on campus...
Josh Rolnick did a ROll call feature I think as a where are they now column about Rodney in Targum a decade or so later.
