Tragedy.
Did the investigation reveal whether they were traveling to a call?
Did it reveal the speed they were travelling?

Raspa was killed after hitting a deer while patrolling eastbound Interstate 195 at 12:48 a.m.
So probably driving around 65 at the time of accident .

on another note , this was posted in someone's facebook ( deleted now) : “Only in America is this considered a tragedy.”
also posted by that person , “Nonetheless, I agree that it is sad and heart wrenching for the family members left to suffer the consequences of the Trooper’s recklessness — especially for the deer family who lost a mommy or daddy or baby deer.”

“The ‘victim’s’ employment as a state trooper is irrelevant to the circumstances, other than the fact that he injured a fellow trooper and destroyed state property as a result of his recklessness,” was said. “He wasn’t running into a burning building or otherwise acting within the course of his employment at the time of the accident. The outcry and ‘thank yous’ are absurd, nonsensical, and completely unwarranted. There are people in this country and around the world dying for much less. There is nothing ‘tragic’ about this. Get over yourselves and your sense of entitlement, people,” .
It's a shame there are people who post such disrespect towards Trooper Raspa and what's worse >some might agree with that.

Though policing and FF are dangerous professions statistically they are not in the top 10. Whereas sanitation worker is. Why don't we have all the pomp and circumstance when one of these folks looses their life doing their job?[/QUOTE]

It's not about the statistical danger. The next time a sanitation worker does something for you (other than pick up you trash) let us know.

No one on this thread is looking down on police officers and most, not all, do a great job and are well respected by their communities. I know and trust my family with those work in my town. I've never had a bad experience. But, once again, how is Officer Raspa's situation different from Joe Citizen who hits a deer and dies? Educate me.
Dude just stfu already. You sound and are a complete Dbag. Go have a appletini

What do any of us do besides our jobs? My garbage man used to bring the cans back to my house before they became automated. What do police do other than the duties they are charged to perform?

The lot of you are acting like intellectual midgets who cant separate the tragedy of this young mans death from a conversation on the deification of a profession because of its perceived 'most dangerous' status. And when confronted with numbers you choose to ignore them.

There are good cops and there are bad cops. Just like there are good and bad people in all professions. Statistically policing is dangerous but less so than other less ballhoo'd professions

I love the cops, I just don't worship them. Guess that makes me a dick.

No desire to pass judgment on this one. My wife and several other friends were friends with Officer Raspa's father and family (Raspa Jewelers in HP is still going strong), as they all grew up in Highland Park. Unnecessary loss of life is always a tragedy and by all accounts, Officer Raspa was a great kid and a very good cop. That's enough reason for me to be saddened by his loss. I don't really care that some extra people showed up at his funeral - I assume they were being nice.

After reviewing what I wrote and the response it has received, it is clear that I was being extremely insensitive especially in regards to the fact that it was the very day of the funeral of a solid citizen and state trooper who had his whole life ahead of him. That should have been obvious to me but wasn't and I apologize for that. Possible that I've been de-sensitized to death as I've been around it way too often. But that is a weak excuse. Some have been brutal in their responses and I deserved that. Thank you for giving me a good shake and bringing me to my senses.

If a simple NJ resident hits a deer, loses control of his/her car, and dies, this is a none event. Happens regularly. The police union loves to create a big event to show how dangerous their job is. This was a tragedy. No denying that. But police from the west coast attending? Come on now.
