I truly hope he is healed. These wrestlers go through a heck of a lot to compete, but doing it with a severe injury is way more than I would have devoted to any sport.

Very happy for him and gives the coaches a lot to think about for 2020/21 and if they want to make a run at the title or wait until 21/22 for the run to begin as most have pointed to.

The latest Intermat & Track rankings are out, Boo is #1 @ 149.

Also, Wittlake moves into AA territory - now ranked 8th by Intermat & 7th by Track.

As a result, OSU moves into the projected top 10 at Nationals, 8th by Intermat, 7th by Track. Both with 50 team points.

Clawing our way up.

John said Boo got a little dinged up in practice last week and the coaches were thinking about maybe sitting him this past weekend. When Hone lost at 141 against UNI, John turned to look for Boo to see how he felt. Said Boo was standing behind him with his headgear already on. Walked past John and on to the mat without saying anything. Tough kid.

I think he was referencing a team title.

Could be, I might have misunderstood that. But Iowa will be even bigger favorites next year. They only lose Lugo but they add Eierman. Will be tough for Boo to be part of a team title also.

Wrassler I agree and Iowa besides having a very good team has caught Penn. St. when they are reloading this year and next year. We won't catch them down like this year and next year. Last year Penn. St. lost 2 all time greats in Nolf and Nickel plus Caesar got injured and I believe has left College. This year Penn. St. will lose Hall and Joseph 2 all time greats. They (Penn. St.)will be a powerhouse like us after next year.

Things can change quickly. Iowa will be the heavy favorite but we at least could get in puncher's chance range if some things break right.

I was talking about a team title.....
I don't think we're a lock in 2021 either, but at least we'll be in the race. This team has no shot in hell. I terms of winning an individual title. I think he has a chance, but taking off the orange colored glasses, It's Spencer Lee by a decent margin. He's just on another level that Picc can't match IMO.

That's fair, Lee should be heavily favored. I misread your post thinking you were saying Picc had no opportunity (chance). Nick has beaten him before and I think he can again.

Yep, 2021-22 is going to be fun. PSU & Cornell will be tough, but we'll have a lot of firepower.

So far I can see our guys wrestling up to these ranking ranges:

(149) Boo 1-3 (1st thru 3rd)
(125) Pic 1-4
(165) Wittlake 4-9
(197) Geer 4-10
(184) Montalvo 7-18
(174) Smith 8-15
(141) Hone 10-20
(133) Witcraft 10-20
(157) Sheets 11-22
(HWT) Break even

I hope I'm under valuing their performance so far. I agree the 21-22 year is going to be our 1st shot at a NC if we stay healthy and hungry.

Why wait till 21-22, next year will have a good experienced group of seniors?
125 Fix - So
133 Brock - Sr
141 Hone - Sr
149 Gfeller - Jr
157 Lewallen - Sr
165 Sheets - Jr
174 Wittlake - So
184 Montalvo - So
197 Geer - Sr
285 ?
The key will be recognizing end of March where guys are going & starting Geer, Wittlake on a bulk up program but keeping Brock lean on a summer running program, will help with 3rd period issue. Fix knows how to handle weight, G already will be more comfortable at 149. Hopefully there's a heavy solution.

That'd be a pretty strong team next year, 21 will be less experince.

I think a better lineup would be:

125: Mastro
133: Fix
141: Brock/Gfeller/Hone
149: Lewallen
157: Sheets/Surber
165: Wittlake
174: Montalvo
184: Geer
197: Ferrari
285: Streck

Obviously, I am assuming a ton there in terms of cuts, redshirts, and availability, but I believe that lineup maximizes the talent in the room.

Brock may not come back....Hone? Please....Gfeller, who knows where he is headed...Lewellyn is not bumping up, especially with his shoulder, Sheets?....up a weight?...please....Wittlake up a weight? Heavy...Doucet orPurdue.

If G gets right and Kaid comes back it could be interesting.I love little Wit and a year redshirting would be great. Once he learns to be a bit smarter he could be really good. That team with everyone at same weights and Kaid for Wit, G at 141. Would be tougher team.

Edit...
Don’t blow Mastro’s red shirt, and maybe not Ferrari’s though that could be a stronger backside.
125...Fix
133...Brock or Wit, redshirt Jackason and Mastro
141...G
149...Boo
157...Sheets or one of younger guys. Surber if he is better. What class is Voinovich?
165...Wittlake
174....can Montalvo make it? Plott maybe if not.
184....Geer
197...Ferrari
hvy...Purdue, Doucette....or Ferrari if Geer at 197 and Montalvo to 184 and Plott at 174.

125 Witcraft (Top 10)
133 Fix (Top 2)
141 Gfeller / Hone (Top 5)
149 Boo (Top 3)
157 McLane / Sheets / Manibog (Top 12)
165 Wittlake (Top 5)
174 Montalvo (Top 12)
184 Geer (Top 7)
197 Doucet (?)
HWT Streck (Top 10)

I do stand corrected ionel. I said 21-22 but next year could be a very good year for us as well. If Witcraft can make 125 we can RS as many as possible plus have a great 125 lber. Travis I like your line up but I hope we get to save those RS's. Sebastian I think yours is more realistic but I doubt Brock is coming back, I hope I'm wrong bc I would put him at 141.

125: Fix
133: Kaid (Redshirt Witcraft)
141: Gfeller
149: Boo
157: Sheets/Balmeceda
165: Wittlake
174: Plott/Montalvo maybe? Or maybe a transfer?
184: Montalvo/Geer
197:Geer/Ferrari/Doucet
HWT: Streck/Doucet/Ferrari

I think any of those combinations would be a sneakily good lineup.

Who is McClane at 157? Is this someone that just signed? When you have that much competition in the room one person is bound to step up and start jumping levels during the season like Montalvo and Whittlake have done this year.

Fix is the type of guy I would let wrestle wherever he wants. However, as 133 stands I'm not sure there will be many who can hang with Fix at that weight next year. DeSanto is great but I think his styles is perfect for Fix. Not sure how Fix and Riveria would matchup. Outside of those two there isn't much.

I think something like this is the likely shake out of the lineup next year.

Boo isn't going anywhere weight wise I don’t think and Taco hasn’t seen 174 since 8th grade. Fix “could” go 125 but I just think 133 is so ideally suited for him he will stay there.

Chance McLane is one of our 2019 recruits. I like him and think he challenges for 157 next year and 149 in two years.

Not listed on Flo's Big Board, but a double AA at Fargo last summer. Sleeper IMO.

I am hearing from good sources that Fix will not wrestle 125 next year. Yes, internationally he is at or below that weight but a year of college wrestling would just be too much of a cut. That does complicate matters but it is what it is.

Can Witcraft go 125? He looks soft at 133. Otherwise we pull redshirt on Burkes or Mastro light. Do Balmeceda and Manibog look like either have a shot at being really good?

Because Desanto and RBY are probably 4th and 5th next year with Micic, Fix and Suriano back. If no Suriano, they move up a spot. I think Daton wins 133 with or without Suriano.

There is some talk of Suriano finishing at 125 due to RU’s roster and who they have at 133.
