I wish it was better news but in a close fought battle Fix loses 2-1 to Gilman. Gilman had the only Takedown after Fix went ahead in the first period 1-0 on a stalling point. Fix had more attempts but Gilman made his shot count. Gilman will face Colon in the finals. At 65kg Oliver is in the finals against Bajrang of India.

JO continues to look good. He's got 2018 world silver medalist in the final from India.

Kyle Dake is in the finals at 74 KG winning 3-1 against Turkey. No takedowns in the match. Dake had three pushouts and the opponent had a stalling point.

Fix just lost in the Bronze medal match 3-2 to China on a late takedown. He was not aggressive the 2nd period after leading 2-1 in the first period.

I watched the semi's and the 3rd place match and yes he is not aggressive enough ( the story most of the time when Daton wrestles elite talent). More concerning to me is his shots seem slow at this level compared to his opponents. Also when he won junior world his gut turns were considered deadly, now you don't see this at all. I saw Dieringer make the finals beating Downey 3 to 2. It is ridiculous that they cut different weight classes for the Olympics. This does not seem a good weight class for Dieringer but he can't make 74 so he has to wrestle 86.

Bad day for OSU Alums. Ringer gets beat by Zahid.
I just watched the Ringer match and 86 does not seem to be a good weight for him. He does not seem as quick and guys are just as strong as him. You can see with his heavy hands at 79 he moves people not so much at 86. Reduced weight classes at the Olympics is crazy.

Fix not elite yet.

No he isn’t. Now he is also only going to be a sophomore (eligibility wise) in college next year. Still well behind in terms of physical and mental maturity as well as development from almost every guy he wrestles. Those guys are men and who are full time free style wrestlers.

True. But important matches in 3 months. Optimistic with ringed and JO. Fix is going to have problems with not only Gilman and colon but lee will prob be our USA rep.

Daton has a very tough road. Could have easily beaten Gilman again today (who is just a tough style for him). The 2 for Gilman was very questionable.

I think he beats every other contender at the weight outside of Lee who will be very tough.

Ringer is the victim of the weight class cuts. Great wrestler to even give himself a chance but it just isn’t his weight.

JO will have a tough road but has looked as good as any of them and will have a good shot to win the spot.

Daton's lack of offense in neutral against top talent has cost him time and time again. Plus refs have beat him also (NCAA Championships). His lack of offense in these situations sets up other fans and possibly refs to think he should lose. It stunned me after Nationals that so many wrestling fans ( the mat etc) thought he deserved to lose when it was obvious Suriano stopped Daton's takedown by grabbing the head gear. Also in Overtime Daton had Suriano beat with legs in broken down and the refs called a stalemate. Robbery but Daton needs to develop more offense on his feet. With Dieringer this 86 seems just a bad weight for Ringer but he does not have any options. Right now I don't think the Olympic trials will work well for us especially when Spencer Lee joins at 57. Dieringer strength and explosiveness doesn't seem to work at 86 like it does at 79. Our program really could use an Olympic medalist.

Daton has beaten Lee 2x in a row. I would be surprised if Lee has passed Fix without doing anything freestyle related for 2 years. I'm taking Daton to make the team and medal.
