I know that I am not only posted a fundraiser, but am copying something from Hawkeye Report, but I feel strongly that Wrestling for Life is a good organization, that helps attract and retain kids in wrestling. You can read more here; http://www.wrestlingforlife.org/ . They purchase tickets for kids to events, provide aid in getting kids to camps, and support womens wrestling as well.

I have committed to donate $5 per team USA win at the World Championships. Not supporting one club, or one school, but the growth of wrestling. Are there some 34 and counting members that will match me? Let's make this work across all fan bases!

"I am the assistant coach at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro (TN). So others know why I'm posting... Our room recently burned resulting in a total loss of the building and contents. There were four programs housed in the building. Wrestling for Life has gone to work to get shoes for our middle school program. I wanted to thank you in an appropriate way. Once our affairs are in order, we will return the favor. "

The above helps to quantify why I am kind of pushing this-I know some of you are on the fence about this, but please make your committment public, to help others get off the fence!

CowboyUp has done a great job fundraising for this cause. Jim Brown does an excellent job with this organization and it is a worthy cause. Also, if you are feeling good about betting on your team or individual matchups for charity, a whole host of Hawk fans would probably be willing to accommodate you with the proceeds going to our the HWC or the CWC. All in good fun and tax deductible

I can't believe the effort CowboyUp is putting into this fundraiser and oberebo is a longtime supporter. Thanks, guys!

In November of 2015 we were approached by a middle school in Davenport, IA that needed wrestling shoes for some kids whose families couldn't afford them. I got some donors together and we were able to help. This was the first time we ever gave away shoes. Very shortly thereafter I saw a Facebook post from Mary Jo McDaniel, daughter of Cowboy legend Joe McDaniel, asking for help getting shoes for some Oklahoma middle schools. Once again donors came through and we were able to help Mary Jo.

These two requests led me to researching the problem and I learned that lack of adequate gear - especially shoes - is a roadblock to youth participation. I communicated my findings to our board of directors and they overwhelmingly voted to launch our shoe program. We have since sent hundreds of pairs of shoes to youth wrestling clubs and middle schools serving financially challenged populations from coast to coast.

We are having trouble keeping up with demand and today I am sending the last of our in-house inventory to Blackman. If you choose to participate in CowboyUp's fundraiser, your gift will be used to buy shoes.

Thanks, all.

Jim, I took a flyer with the camp deal, was impressed with what you did, so now WFL will be a regular thing on my donation list. Just trying to get the word out!

I spend a lot of money on shoes for kids. Everytime I get bored, I hit the thrift stores and resale shops for sports equipment for hometown kids. Small scale compared to what you do, but i do understand the need, and try to fill it locally and help you nationally.

Just found out the Beat The Streets is opening a chapter in Denver. Great time to donate, either by this challenge, or any way that you feel is best, to help WFL get them outfitted!

CowboyUp61,
I wanted to let you know that I'm changing my planned donation to WFL. I just cannot cheer for Gilman, so I'm going to skip any contribution based on the 57 kg results. I watched his latest video on Flo where he says he "probably told John Smith to you know what himself". I was never a fan of Gilman in college, but I understood playing up the bad boy image. And I realize he's still trying to look like a tough guy to hype up the Flo video, so describing the smack with Picc and the rest of the team I get. But insulting a legend of the sport 30 years his senior is just too much for me. If he really respected coach Smith he would have never said that in the first place and he certainly wouldn't bring it up while retelling the story.

To not shortchange WFL, I'll contribute $6 for each USA win at the other weights and guarantee a $100 minimum donation. I'm letting you (and GG121AND2) know on here because I don't plan on posting anything about it on the Iowa board. I don't want to detract from their positive discussions over there, but if you think I should just let me know and I will.

Wrassler, I certainly understand and respect your opinion. It is a donation, and you are being more than generous.
Wrassler Jim Brown and WFL are class acts and deserve your support so thanks for the donation. and I agree with your sentiments about "Gilman. I used to believe all Hawkeyes were like him but I have found that they are just wrestling fans like us who are very proud of their accomplishments.

Only 6 days before greco - 8 before womens - 10 before MFS. Pick your team, and pledge to donate to Wrestling for Life for each win by a member of that team. Making your pledge public helps others decide to donate too!

Help WFL help to grow wrestling nationwide!

It has started! Join me in donating $5 per team USA win (I used MFS as my team) to Wrestling for Life. Great organization doing good things nationwide, not just in their home state.

right now Team USA is sitting at 13 wins. Should do better tomorrow! If we just had a few more donors @ $5 per win, we could get Wrestling for Life up to $1000 just based on wins. If you can....
