New HE lightbulbs

All these new light bulbs blow goats. I'd like to track down who allows them to print on the package that they save you money and kick them in the baby maker. Seems like I go through 5 times as many bulbs now as I did with the old ones.

We're having very good luck (knock on wood) with LEDs. Slowly putting them everywhere.

We light the big common room with 208 watts now. Used to use 1200. The room is at least 50% brighter and Home Depot guarantees the bulbs 20 years and they keep the warranty in their computer -- I don't have to save receipts.

The curly bulbs and halogens were awful.

I bought a case of the curly ones. I'll try the LEDs instead

LED is the only way to go. my electric bill is down $40 per month this summer.

I have 21 outside lights on my house and garage. I changed all of them out with LED bulbs from Amazon. I changed out most of the cans and fixture bulbs as they burned out. I love em.

my new building is totally LED very bright and efficient. They do burn out, however, they replace them for free.

Back in the Summer Home Depot was doing a promotion with Phillips with 2 LED bulbs for $5. (Way below normal retail) and I stocked up on them and am slowly but surely replacing all the bulbs in my house. They put out great light.

I noticed that LEDs can be a little wonky with preexisting dimmable switches (even when using LEDs labeled 'dimmable.'). You have to turn it on all the way, then dim down. Other than that, works great. I'm rotating all the curly ones to the garage, basement, etc and replacing everything else with LEDs from Sam's.

Which ones do you use for the cans? I have about 40 in my house filled with a variety of incandescents and flourescents and want to eventually get the LEDs in there. But, I don't want to spend $1000 to do it.

You may be shocked at what you can get for under $8 in the LED category.

BTW, I just checked and Home Depot has a 2 pack of 60 w equivalent LED bulbs for under $5 (Phillips brand).

Thanks. I really hate shopping for light bulbs these days. I'll stand and stare at the light bulb aisle in HD for 15 minutes trying to figure out what to do. The fluorescent bulbs over the past few years have been a real disappointment. I suppose I'll shift to the LEDs. But, the lighting in my cans mostly should be BR30, BR38 or BR40, which spreads the light out at 120 degrees for a nice even lighting in a room. The LEDs are mostly PAR30 or PAR38, which have a much narrower light focus of roughly 40 degrees at best. The BR LEDs are still mostly above $20 each.

I bought this to change out a 4' fluorescent. It's a great light for a utility room, garage or closet.
