Well, this is going to be an interesting Big Ten opener, to say the least. Maryland and head coach Mark Turgeon mutually agreed to part ways on Friday, so Danny Manning (yes, that Danny Manning) will be coaching his first game as interim head coach. He's also in his first year in College Park.

On top of that, Chase Audige is going through warmups and is ready to make his season debut for NU.

Not only is the coach new for Maryland, but the Terps have six transfers on the roster, including starters Fatts Russell (Rhode Island) and Qudus Wahab (Georgetown). They are 5-3 on the season but are coming off of two straight losses, to Louisville and Virginia Tech. Their biggest problem this season: they can't shoot the 3. The Terps rank 343rd in the nation at 26.8% from beyond the arc. I think the Cats will pack it in on defense.

And, of course their first 3 pointer goes down.

Audige being Audige sees he’s going to be substituted and jacks up a shot followed by an offensive foul. I hope he’s not more of the same.

How many more times are we going to show a surprise one play zone and allow a three? Seen this so many times.

Maryland, terrible shot selection. Good for us.

Not a great stretch there for Chase. Was that... because... he saw Roper coming off the bench as his sub?

Quite amazing how little Beran has to do to get everyone excited around here. Contrast that to Buie who jacks up a bad shot and is a huge problem for us. Amazing
Buie and Beran played the best before the first time out. Young out of the first T/O with an excellent find to Buie.

If Maryland keeps shooting 18% from the floor and looking this bad I like our odds.

An astute observation, though mine was strictly a PWB-related comment.

Maryland’s shot selection is very dubious. Often happens with new coaches, players wanting to show off, earn minutes. Hope it continues. 15 at the 10 mark is good. Why zone after that, no idea.

Man, Berry getting the ball poked out from behind him was a momentum-turner. Had just had a great defensive stop and up 16-10 with the chance to take the largest lead of the game. Instead, Maryland gets a wide-open 3 and goes on an 8-2 run.

This is honestly why I feared Audige coming back. He’s very talented, but his shot selection and lack of making the last pass are disappointing.

They've already missed 22 field goals! Should really be winning this.

I am willing to cut him just a little bit of slack today, as it's his first taste of actual real game action in a long while. He's showing flashes, like that nice block on defense, but he still doesn't look fully comfortable out there. There's a fine line between shaking off the rust and "Chase being Chase," however.

We have shown to be a poorer first half team than second. So, despite the frustration, I still like our chances.

Greer has missed two bunnies.

We should and, regardless of lineups and minutes, whoever is on the floor has to calm down. On offense, we look like a group of players who got together for game for the first time.

Have to say - Ryan Young would help this.

Under those circumstances he should take even fewer low percentage shots IMO. On the positive side, Nance’s development is really impressive.

I'd run the pick and roll with Boo and Nance every time, and clear out that side.

Unfortunately, today, he happens to have 2 fouls.

What a weird weird first half. Playing like this I’d expect to be down by 10 or 15 at home against Penn State. And yet we are up by 3, on the road, against a team picked, before the start of the season, to be in the top 1/3 of the conference.

Good that NU is winning but this is a terrible rock fight of a basketball game. 41 combined missed shots in the first half, 14 of those from beyond the arc. 15 combined turnovers.

Playing Greer too much. He's missed three wide open shots in the key. Should play Berry more ...of course need to play Young more as well

Some things never change, including NU getting in extremely early second-half foul trouble.

Gonna be a problem when Maryland starts getting to the line on the regular.
