What is the consensus on OL coach Anderson among the members on this board? Is he a good developmental coach? Does he do much recruiting?

Clearly has upped the ante in recruiting by helping land Skoronski, Priebe, Tiernan, and other talents. Jury is still out in development. We need to get stronger on the interior.

Yeah makes sense. He’s rumored to be on a very short list of candidates to fill OL coach on another Big Ten staff.

Harry Heistand. Long resumé as an OL coach, most recently with the Bears. Pretty sure he was at Illinois previously for a bit.
He was. He coached there when I was in college. I had a bunch of very good friends who played for him and they loved him.

Yeah I’ve heard a few different things, including Anderson as a possibility. A couple other names as well.

Can’t see any reason/way Anderson leaves NU for the same position in C-U (regardless of his ties to Bielema), but Heistand would be a great hire. Heck of a coach.

Felt he got too short of a leash with the Bears...he was outstanding at Notre Dame.

Anderson has young kids who have settled in nicely and is not uprooting them from Glenview, the town where he grew up. Anderson spent a year as a Grad assistant at NU for a chance to land on Fitz’s Staff and the stability/job security that comes with that. No way he gives that up to go coach with Bielema again.

Did he have an option at the time? It was likely the only path to a P5 college staff at the time.

I agree that leaving for a lateral move wouldn’t make sense. I don’t even know if he’s a top candidate, just that his name had been mentioned as a possibility. I guessif he did end up making a move anywhere this off-season it could be a sign that there’s a chance Fitz could be eyeing the NFL.

He had plenty of options. He sought out the spot on Fitz's staff. The reality is he has several young kids and wanted to raise them where he grew up and provide them with long term stability. That's something he has on Fitz's staff and it is rare to find anywhere else in college football. Anderson isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

This is all baseless, uniformed speculation driven by the hope of other Big Ten Fan bases that Fitz leaves NU. Keep dreaming guys. Fitz isn't going anywhere either. He knows how good he has it at NU. He'll be at NU for a long time and will continue to beat the snot out of your teams.

NFL media reports that Fitz is being eyed for NFL gigs are baseless, uniformed speculation driven by the breathless hopes and prayers of fans who root for other Big Ten teams? Got it.

Being eyed and eying are two very different things.

I didn’t say that NFL teams aren’t interested. They are, just as they have been before. I am saying Fitz isn’t interested, just like he hasn’t been interested when NFL teams came calling before. The only job Fitz would consider leaving NU for is the Bears job and that job won’t be opening up this year. So fret not Illinois fan, Fitz and Anderson will be wearing purple and leading NU again next year when they kick Illinois *** again.

You do realize I literally said I hear Anderson was A candidate, not THE candidate, right? Either way, I can see you’re triggered so I’ll leave you to your fat jokes and insecurity. Good luck in the bowl this week, although Auburn is coachless and isn’t even bothering to practice more than a few times so I’m going to guess you’re not going to get much resistance.

Is this article where you “heard” he was a candidate? Baseless speculation from a lazy Illinois blogger predicated solely on Anderson’s previous affiliation with Bielema and the hope that Fitz leaves NU. The latter isn't happening and therefore neither is the former so you might as well not waste your time thinking about it.

Just to put an exclamation mark on the issue!

Lol no. A friend used to be a grad assistant on Zookers staff and is still connected to DIA staffers

Lol Lovie was still the coach when he tweeted this. It’s not relevant evidence to the contrary.

Again, he’s probably not the guy they end up hiring. But he’s definitely A candidate. This should be neither surprising nor controversial.

Could he be NU's next HC if Fitz leaves?
Didn’t you read the thread above? Fitz isn’t leaving. Anyone who reads the dozens of NFL reporters suggesting that there is legitimate NFL interest in him and concludes its plausible Fitz may jump at a big pay raise and the opportunity to not have to recruit anymore and compete at the highest level is an idiot!

Willing to bet Fitz’s take home is higher than Nagy this year. Fitz is not going to make more in the NFL.

LOL! It's almost like clockwork. Illini fans like you show up on these board every 3-5 years after their latest coaching bust has been fired to tell us how things will be changing and how great Illinois will be. Almost like clockwork those same posters quickly disappear when they come to the unpleasant realization that the Hat will stay in Evanston. While Bielema is a much better coach (but a much bigger douche) than his predecessors, I don't foresee the future being much different.

I get why guys like you don't understand what NU has in Fitz and why a guy like Fitz would be very hard pressed to ever leave NU. It's a very rare dynamic and one that is rarely found in big time college athletics. Fitz loves NU, understands and believes in what makes NU special, and knows that love/belief is reciprocated by the NU administration, alumni, players, and fans in a way that he wouldn't find anywhere else in college or pro sports. Fitz is a Chicago guy, is an NU alum, loves coaching/teaching/mentoring young kids, already makes a ton of money, has a job for life at NU, has a wife and young kinds who are settled and comfortable living in the area, and has older parents/family/in laws all living in the area. You think Fitz would abandon the job he loves, abandon the job security he has at NU, uproot his wife/kids, and leave his parents and extended family to expose himself to the pressures of turning around a losing NFL franchise to make a couple million bucks more a year? He'd have to a be a fool and Fitz is not a fool. Fitz is a football coach and Chicago guy who will never leave NU for anything other than the Bears job and I am not even certain he would take that job if it was ever offered. I get why Illinois fans like you badly want to believe that Fitz will leave NU but go dream up that nonsense on your own board.

It's possible and even if it isn't, the numbers are close. Fitz is making $5 million plus a year all in at NU and he earns every penny of that.

My good sir, I’ve literally said none of these things. I’ve simply stated that Anderson has been in contact with Bielema regarding potentially joining his staff as OL coach, and that if he left it could indicate that some of the Fitz to NFL talk could have some merit. The fact that you’ve worked yourself into a froth over this is bizarre.
If I’m so clueless and way off base, then why waste your time “proving me wrong”?

Let's clarify things. If what you are trying to say is that Bielema has reached out to Anderson to inquire about his interest, then I can certainly buy that. If you are implying that Anderson proactively reached out to Bielema, then I call BS. Secondly, your initial post implied one of two things. Either that Anderson was interested in Illinois because he views it as a better opportunity than coaching at NU or that he was interested in Illinois because he believes Fitz is on the verge of leaving to the NFL. Neither is accurate and once again reflects the delusional pipe dreams from Illinois fans that manifest themselves on this board every time you fire your latest head coaching failure and replace him with the newest version. Hope springs eternal!

Huh? Who is delusional here? Go read what I wrote. Then read it again. And again, if necessary. And you’ll see that I literally said none of these things. I said IF Anderson ended up leaving (he hasn’t even been offered the job yet...) THEN it COULD mean that Fitz might actually have NFL interest.
