and NU is right back into the thick of things. the cats didn't play great tonight but i hope this is the start of getting back to playing hard with the hardest part of the schedule behind them.

Yeah, and I like how the schedule sets up for this one, as IU plays back-to-back Saturday-Tuesday road games after 3 straight losses, with what will likely be a war against Purdue tomorrow. Combined with the fact that they have only won once on the road (a squeaker to last-place Penn State at a gym with the worst home court advantage in the league), and I like our chances if Vic and A.J are healthier.

Haywood, how bad is Laws injury? You could tell he’s nowhere near himself.. gutsy performance from several guys. Huge game Tuesday. Hopefully Gaines can bother Langford if Vic can’t chase him all game.

I think we will go on a winning streak now! At least 5/6 in a row! I had a lot of fun watching Friday nite- Nance may have played his best BIG game! I hope the guys get some more confidence in the team and themselves!

not so fast. Im not even sure indy will be a quality win as they seem to be on the skids. When you say "in the thick of things" what do you mean?
3-5???
Isnt the best that we can hope for is maybe 7th or 8th place? I havent seen the standings but i cant imagine the teams at the top falling apart. We put ourselves in a jam with 5 losses so quickly, and unlike some other teams, we didnt get any quality wins ooc. Maybe our depaul win will matter.

Think at this point you want to try and finish middle of the pack in conference and get a NIT spot. Gives the seniors a nice end to their careers and more playing time/games for the frosh to continue developing.

Middle of the pack in big ten this year would be a tourney bid. I’ve generally seen 8-10 bid projections so even at 8, most of the conference is in.

The top 9 teams are below 40 in kenpom. NU is 10th in the Big ten at 56th in kenpom (OSU is #9 big ten at 36 kenpom). Big drop off from #9 to #10.

With all the conference champs auto bids, probably only the top 40 kenpom are guaranteed a bid. (Not that the committee uses kenpom, but it is fairly correlated)

Agreed but if we climb to a 10-10 record in conference we probably will be top 40 or very close. I think any .500 big ten team is very likely to get in and someone could certainly get in just below .500 as well.

10-10 is possible since we have the weakest bigten schedule left.
But our ooc schedule may come back to haunt us unless depaul climbs up a bit.
I mean, no doubt a 10-10 Indiana team gets in due to being 12-2 with a couple quality wins but our ooc will kill us much like in football.
NU football and Basketball, historically, just sorta flushes ooc like they could care less.
If our football team had done better in ooc we would have went to a better bowl. If our basketball team had an ooc quality win then we would go dancing at 10-10. Thats my thought.

We’ve beaten Illinois and Rutgers. To get anywhere besides the basement, we have to win home games like Tuesday’s.

No kidding. All this positivity after winning a game we were supposed to win against an inferior team is overdone.

I will personally guaranter you that 10 wins in conference gets us in. Virtually all of our remaining games are Quad 1 or 2.

I remember when I used to overreact to wins (and losses). All we know at this point is that we are ahead of 3 BIG teams. We have to improve our play to move up-- it is really that simple.

I would argue that you simply do not react to losses, Mike. :)

Loss? Naaaah, I don’t think they played Iowa yet.

Did you notice how much better the last few games have been officiated than that Iowa game? Always hate it when the officials take the game into their own hands instead of just calling the game that happens....

Is there a bad loss among the 5 losses? Weren't all 5 losses against ranked teams when they were played?

10-10 plus at least 1-1 in BTT. That would give us 20 wins and get us there but not sure if we fail to win a BTT game.
