His return would be a boon for our chances against Iowa with their massive TEs. Hopefully it’s this game if any.

He didn’t look too good walking around the last two weeks. Hopefully, this week he’s improved and ready to go. However, he had a noticeable limp a few weeks back.

I've heard something like a high ankle sprain or that type. Not a knee injury / torn ligament, but clearly something serious enough that it's held him out beyond just a day to day / week to week thing.

I also quite hope to have him back for Iowa, even more so now given the erosion in our secondary depth, but who knows at this point.

Is he still eligible to redshirt? Could that be part of the issue?

High ankle sprains are a (female dog). It might be best just to redshirt him at this point.

Still pretty sure I saw him in a knee brace during the ND game. My money is on a redshirt at this point.

At the same time, we're 5-1 in the division and in "win now" mode. If he's healthy and gives us a better chance to win right now, burn the shirt just like Bowser's...

That's why it's most likely to be the injury.
Right. If we win today there are still a lot of games ahead as we will play two more in division conference games, the championship and a bowl. That is 5 games including today. Winning out the regular season would do wonders for NU stock in recruiting as long as we don't get destroyed in the championship game. Win out for the whole season and we are a 10 win team once again.

Agreed, but the prospect of a redshirt year has to be part of the calculation, too. No sense in rushing him back unless he’s 100% certain to be a superior option to the next men up.

I think he’s probably done for the year. Unfortunate, but it gives him time to fully heal, continue to learn from watching Hartage and give him a good shot at the #1 CB role for the next four years.

He might even have the skill to leave early.

These types of starts are rare. 95/96/00, and this year being the first in Fitz's coaching career.

If a guy is at 100% health and the best option on the field; he's going to play even if you burn a shirt to do so.

This is never a concern and shouldn't be for fans either.

If a guy plays at a level which results in him leaving early, it means his play was special.

Hunter Johnson is a possible example, as we would hope. If you tell me he only plays 2 years for us and then goes to the NFL, it's probably because we had a pair of 11+ win seasons with him as QB and he was in the Heisman mix/discussion. We should absolutely be willing to take that tradeoff in exchange for losing a 3rd year.

We need to get used to the idea that players that play at an incredibly high level won't redshirt and will be more like JJ. Don't want to get ahead of the game, but I'd imagine that Kirtz and GHP won't redshirt if they're as good as expected and give Hunter two excellent options.

Yeah I agree with that completely.
