Who would have thought we could go 0-3 in non-conference play, and win the West (with a chance to win the B1G)???
Great effort. Some random thoughts in my head:
1) Isaiah Bowers - I'm a believer now! That Ioa defense was supposed to be hard to run against.
2) The Defense is lights out... even with casualties. We stoned those guys hard. They scored on short fields only. Hankwitz is awesome!!!
3) Ruiz and Whillock are players. Didn't feel like we stepped down on D
4) Stats aside on the year, Skowronek is a beast and our best WR. He just makes ridiculous plays
5) The OL was solid - we don't rush on that Ioa team without some decent blocking. Does Cushing get a reprieve? I'm not so sure (wonder if Kurt Anderson's hand has been showing itself)
Some not so great things.
1) Is Thorson hurt? Another poor game, with a 21 QBR and 2 picks. He did enough to get the win
2) Hartage down. Could be disastrous for us. Any idea if it's serious?
3) WTF Purdue? We could have a game on our hands next week, especially if we start sucking each other off and ignore the fact that Minnesota demolished Purdue on both sides of the ball.
4) Mid-season coordinator changes appear to potentially have immediate effect. That Purdue offense was the same one lighting the rest of the conference up, and that D was the same defense that gave up 55 points to LoLlinois.
5) Do we rest all of our hurt people (including Thorson if he's hurting) so that we can go into Indy at much fuller strength? Probably not, but I was thinking about it. We have nothing more to gain with these last two games. Do we rest the starters like they do in the NFL and in MLB after the division is clinched?
I don't think we should/will lose to Minnesota, but all of a sudden that game looks a lot tougher, and as pointed out earlier, we seem to play to our competition and have proven we can lose to much worse teams.
Congratulations to the Cats on our first B1G West title, but let's not let the foot off the gas.
Indy here we come (please let it be Ohio State).
