Let's not be those fans...

Let's not be the fans that crap on our bowl opponent and scream "we deserve better". It's annoying every time a fan base does it to us (see: Pitt, Tenn, Auburn, etc.) so let's not emulate.

Nashville should be fun--hope to make it!

Amen. Nashville is a great town. I was there a few months back and had a terrific time. Lots to do. Let’s beat Kentucky.

Glad you posted this, as I was about to crap on our match-up with a 7-5 unranked team. If Kentucky wins I'll regret saying this. Are they better than their record shows? Win or lose, I believe in a bowl game against the best team possible.

Every time a team bitches about their bowl seeding they proceed to lose that bowl.

For me, this has nothing to do with Kentucky, who could have a great fan base and be a great opponent. It’s not about our fans having a fun city to visit (which Nashville is). It’s about our players who won seven games in a row, and fought out three OT victories, including one against MSU, who got a better bowl anyway. Finishes two games better in conference than Michigan, who got a better bowl anyways.

Maybe we should stop playing the games and just slot bowls based on how many fans and brand recognition each time has. We’re already pretty close to that.

Totally agree. I would rather be jobbed and feel that the matchup is too winnable than the other way around.

I don’t know why people are surprised. This result was inevitable with no Big Ten team in the playoff and no Citrus Bowl.

NU can now go to a bowl as a favorite and get another bowl W.

Stop whining. MSU beat PSU. NU got crushed. The CFP system is fairly consistent. The Spartans were ranked higher. NU couldn’t go to Outback. So we are where we are.

Beat Kentucky.

Ha. “Stop whining” from you. That’s fantastic.

And this is not about me. It never has been. I don’t have the funds or time off from work to make this trip. But if you don’t give a crap about our players getting what they earn based on their on field performance, that’s your prerogative. I happen to care about our players though so I will state my opinion.

Exactly. I'm biased, of course, but I don't really understand the butthurt. As I previously posted, Nebraska's resume last year was almost exactly the same as ours this year. Were they being treated poorly? No B1G team made the playoffs, and, due to Auburn folding against Georgia, our second-place team slotted to the Orange Bowl. Trying to claim that picking the two Michigan teams over us is an insult is pretty weak, I think. We didn't play one; they had one less win than we did but arguably played a tougher schedule. The other one we barely beat, and they had a nice win over an NY6 team (PSU) and an OOC loss to a team that was in playoff contention until late (Notre Dame).

Michigan State, while I don’t agree since we won head to head, I can understand. That is reasonable.

Michigan though? We finished two games ahead of them in conference, had a better overall record, and their best win was Purdue. The Florida win appeared good, but Florida had about ten suspensions for that one and then that team just fell apart.

It is what it is. And I’ve made my stance on it clear, whether people agree or not, so I’ll stop. I’ve beat the horse to a pulp. But I just in no way get how the Michigan argument is weak. The NU resume is significantly better than that.

Bi*ching & moaning will not change things. I like the venue and the matchup. How about our fans show up in big numbers and watch our team throttle Kentucky? The only way to earn respect is by winning games. I look forward to a great time in Nashville.

Actually the players spend most of their times practicing, in meetings and hanging around the hotel. Sure they go out a few dinners and see some sights. A I'm thinking that there is more to see and do in Nashville then SD and the food is probably better, though a bit different. The only really important and meaningful bowl game in California is played in Pasadena.

Fitz has been clear in the past that he desires “a warm destination” for his players as a reward for their season. Just basing it off that and the fact that competitors typically like to get what they work extremely hard for.

But I’ve moved on. Nashville it is. Should be a fun game and a great place for our fans to visit. Let’s get that 10th win!

With due respect for our W Coast Alums:

Stupidly expensive to get to SD
Do you really want to go to Florida again?
I had to cancel when we played VU in 2010.
Michigag sucks
Always wanted to go to Nashville
Perhaps the conference thought we needed another opportunity to beat a middle of the pack team in a blue uniform? Don't have recency error. We got blasted by Duke.
Kentucky will bring all they have. Do you think KY is way worse than Iowa or Neb, two teams we needed OT to beat?

I apologize for striking that tone. A lot of opinions and hot takes today.

I care a lot about the players. But I’m not sure they’re going to feel as disrespected as you think (and, if they do, all the better if they play with a chip on their shoulder).

Players will enjoy a bowl game and look back on it fondly for one overriding reason: WINNING. Tampa is a warm place and a fairly prestigious bowl, but no one has good memories of that New Year’s Day 2016.

I look forward to Clayton adding to his record as winningest QB of all time at NU. I look forward to JJ climbing the record books for rushing and all-purpose yards. I look forward to the first back-to-back winning bowl seasons in NU history.

For those reasons and more, I’m at peace with this selection. GO CATS

Only two B1G teams have every drank Vegas dry, well part of it;

Wisconsin drank Freemont Street and Sam Boyd dry in 2000

NU drank Sam Boyd dry in 2001

Less upside in winning and much greater downside in losing than had we been paired with a ranked team.

But heck, lets just win and have fun anyway even if it is cold and miserable compared to what it should have been at least location wise.
