Almost no mention of the upcoming game. Occasionally there is a thread with a comment about the game (point spread, preferred pass/run ratio, etc.) but within 3 or 4 replies it is back to Scott Frost.

They are living for the future. Maybe a future that won't be any better than it is now, but hope is a powerful thing.

Which would be a better job- Neb or Fla? He's a legacy at Neb, but a legend in the making in Fla. He's a perfect fit either place. It's difficult to figure out where he'll wind up. But starting next year, it will certainly not be at CFU.

Florida >> Nebraska at this point.

Expectations are very high at either institution, and the institutional support is there. But Florida is in the midst of the most talent-rich recruiting ground in the US. You could fill an entire class from in-state kids and not have to reach. If you tried to fill a classic at UNL with local kids, you'd have kids who should be playing at Chadron St.

The demographic trends favor Florida by a mile. The midwest and plains are hollowing out and graying. The sunbelt is growing.

I am not sure Nebraska will ever come close to its glory days under TO.

What Hungry Jack said . Nebraska fans might be the sweetest on game day, but they border on the spectrum of irrational when it comes to expectations for their coaches within the modern CFB landscape (and where UNL geographically fits within). I doubt that any coach, no matter how heralded, could achieve sustained success in Lincoln.

Agre FL >>> NE.

But recruiting in FLA is no picnic. You have the Big 2, Miami and FSU, plus UCF and USF. And every other Power 5 school is sniffing around, with Harbaugh practically living down there. Still, it's a better deal than NE and you can play golf year round.

Perhaps because their primary boards are on a site run by a Rivals competitor

Why do you think no coach can turn them around? Game day atmosphere is great, history is good, etc. if Oklahoma can be top 5 every year why couldn’t Nebraska. They have to go back to getting top Texas prospects to go along with California.

Nebraska doesn't have the patience to let a coach turn their program around. They go through 'em like s**t through a goose. Unlike Oklahoma.

Out of all the Big Ten fans I've interacted with in Evanston I thought the Nebraska ones were the most respectful. Nebraska football is the #1 show in town over there and expectations are high. If you can build a dynasty in Tuscaloosa Alabama why can't you build one in Lincoln Nebraska?

That said they made a horrible decision firing Frank Solich years ago to bring in Bill Callahan who was a terrible fit in college. I don't think anyone could blame them for moving on from Pelini and then Riley whom never had the backing from their fans & boosters.

If Scott Frost takes the Nebraska job I think he will lift that program up a peg.

Because there's a lot more talent in Alabama and the states bordering it than there is in Nebraska and the states bordering it.

For generations, Nebraska pulled a ton of players out of Texas on the promise that they would play games each year at UT, A&M, Tech and Baylor. Now they don't have that same pull. To wit, they have 6 players from Texas on their roster right now; in their final Big 12 year of 2010, they had 23. Replacing that pipeline is a big challenge.

Give Nebraska fans a break.

They are trying to fire and hire coaches this week.

That takes lots of thought, analysis and work.

This is a common misconception. There's plenty of reasons the Huskers are not the team they were in the 90's, but lack of Texas players isn't one of them.

From '97 - 2010 (the Big 12 years) Nebraska had 51 recruits from Texas, an average of 3.64 per year.
From 2011 - 2017 (the Big Ten) Nebraska has had 22 recruits from Texas, an average of 3.14 per year.
All things considered, that's not a big difference.

You bring up 2010 and the number of Texans on the roster. It's true that Pelini went through a few years where the Texas recruiting was at an all time high. Between 2007 and 2010 there were 29 recruits from Texas. That's 29 out of the 51 in the Big 12 years.
It kind of illustrates the LACK of Texas players in prior years! From 97 - 2006, Nebraska recruited 22 players from Texas, an average of 2.2 per year.

When Nebraska was at their best, and competing for conference and National championships, they were not getting many players from Texas.

Fair point but demography has always been unkind to Nebraska vis a vis most everyone else save perhaps Wyoming, the Dakotas, and Idaho. IMHO, it matters less if you're a state monopoly with enthusiastic support and the only game in town.

Stats can be confusing (and, potentially, could be for losers ;)). If both your numbers and rwhitney’s numbers are correct, that would indicate that while the number of Texas players recruited remained at about the same level, the number that stayed and made the roster dropped significantly. This could indicate that the move from the Big 12 to the B1G has negatively impacted recruiting in Texas with the results being players less suited to the team.

The point is that Nebraska has never relied on Texas. Nobody was hurt more from the move to the Big 8 to the Big 12 than Nebraska was. There are some definite reasons for that, but an inability to recruit Texas wasn't one. Nebraska has never significantly recruited Texas. When they tried, at the end of the Big 12 tenure, it didn't help much.
Who from Texas has made a significant impact in the Big Ten? Possibly Rex Burkhead and Armstrong, but really not anyone else.
If you look at past history, you will see that California recruiting has helped the Huskers much more than Texas recruiting. When was Nebraska ever in a conference with California schools?
Nebraska has always recruited nationally. Thus they have the highest recruiting budget in the Big Ten, and the roster with players from the most different states than anyone else in the Big Ten. They have never relied on Texas. If they did they would be a lot worse off than they already are!

I will never understand why Nebraska fired Solich (who was the latest Neb coach to have team ranked #1 ap- remember that iconic classic when they beat ND that year?) to downgrade to Callihan (who was horrible). Then, they have Pelini (who averaged like 9.5 wins a season)/fire him and then actually think that Riley was an upgrade? What? Riley is a nice guy. Great! But if Nebraska wants to win big, you don't look to and hire a barely .500 coach from Oregon st.. Husker eyes probably don't understand it either. That is why most Neb fans want Riley out asap. Personally, I hope the new Neb ad does reel in Frost. I hope Neb does return to its glory days and wins a lot of games- just not against Northwestern! It would be good for the BIG to have another Ohio st/Mich/Wis/msu/psu. I root for all BIG teams when they don't play vs Northwestern. I will always love Northwestern and root for them with all my heart. But I do hope the BIG has at least 7/8 teams ranked in the top 25 ap polls.

Concur. Right now, the sporting world considers the B1G to be the East division and Wisconsin. Having two nationally relevant teams in the West would give the overall conference more balance and help us all. Hopefully after another few years, the Cats will be a consistently nationally relevant team as well and the West will become the dominant division.

9 out the 11 offensive starters on the 1997 National Championship team were Nebraska boys, including the entire backfield. Other notable Nebraska boys Heisman winners Eric Crouch and Johnny Rodgers, Outland winners Zach Wiegert and Dave Rimington, and Green Bay Packer great Ahman Green.

A Dave Rimington reference always makes makes me smile. I have Nebraska fans as in-laws, and in 1983 I was gifted with a number of long lectures on how great he was (he was a very good player) and how his skills and exploits made him the greatest offensive lineman to come out of college in a generation. At the time, the Cats had just ended the streak. I would try, in self defense, to talk about a really good o-lineman the Cats had, and how I thought he was the single biggest reason we had started to actually look like a college football team. This was met with an understandable condescension and chuckles, with comments about how Northwestern was a great academic school, but would never be able to field a player who would start at Nebraska.

Chris Hinton was the first o-lineman picked in 1983, the 4th pick overall. Rimington was the 25th pick. Nebraska joined the Big Ten, and the Cats beat them in Lincoln in their first conference meeting. Sometimes, it is fun to be a Northwestern fan.
