The Trib. is reporting that 5 ND football players are being investigated for drug and gun charges.
The night before the Saturday scrimmage at Kenosha, our guys are all off too, but they watch a movie together. No guns and drugs for our guys.
Well, we did have one or two players involved with guns in the past, but they were dismissed from the team. But, it is indeed very rare at NU and it's clear we handle it better than many other institutions including Notre Shame.
And drugs? Depends on what you're talking about. Let's take pot for instance. a) If you're going to not ban alcohol, I don't see the point of banning marijuana which is much safer and less damaging to the body b) I bet we have a number of athletes partaking just like they do elsewhere in the country and just like many college students do. Hell, we all know President Clinton smoked up in college. Michael Phelps inhaled like a champ. It's part of the college experience. In fact, I know athletes at NU have - Hudhaifa for one and a number of athletes that I went to school with I was an eye witness to, whom I will not name, though the statute of limitations has expired. Plus, THC is known to benefit the human body. It might even make people run faster. How else do you explain Jamaica in the Olympics? Though I don't think it helps much with winter sports like bobsledding. And if someone wants to shroom or drop acid on Dillo day or do some E at a rave, I personally don't have a problem with that as long as they aren't hurting anyone.
Steroids, and hard (addictive) drugs, and distributing drugs is a different story. I'm looking at you Columbus!
I appreciate the rant but I was specifically talking about camp. I'm not naive enough to think our guys are perfect and I too know exactly who on our team has done what and when with guns, drugs and alcohol (Xavier Menifield and Jeff Radek, I'm looking at you)
But our guys, the night before a scrimmage in Kenosha are definitely not hot boxing their way around Eastern Wisconsin the way half the Notre Dame secondary seems to have been doing in Rural Indiana
Right, sorry I missed the one guy charged with battery of police officer.Six in 2 separate incidents:

They are lucky it didn't turn into a shoot out.Riding around in a car smoking pot and carrying a handgun is not recommended. The issue is not whether marijuana should be legal or not, the issue is.... what were they thinking and doing? Do they think they get some free pass because they are Notre Shame players? Geez.
You are joking I hopeWell, we did have one or two players involved with guns in the past, but they were dismissed from the team. But, it is indeed very rare at NU and it's clear we handle it better than many other institutions including Notre Shame.

How does this happen during camp? Aren't they locked down in dorms?
It's the battery and assault which is a felony...and TSISB, by policy dismisses those people from the university, not just the team. That is if they are charged (not convicted) just charged with a felony. And assault on a police officer is a felony. Let's see how this is handled...for both groups.
Hell they swept under the rug negligence that caused the death of a student helper and the suicide of a young lady who claimed to have been sexually assaulted A simple drug charge, illegal gun possession and punching a police officer will likely be handled in a similar fashion, simply because they are ND football players and winning games are top priority. The deciding factor will be how much the team needs him.
Problem is that these are outside the university now, so can't go the usual route of having campus police "investigate" and dismiss.Hell they swept under the rug negligence that caused the death of a student helper and the suicide of a young lady who claimed to have been sexually assaulted A simple drug charge, illegal gun possession and punching a police officer will likely be handled in a similar fashion, simply because they are ND football players and winning games are top priority.
How do you charge three people with illegal gun possession there was only one gun?

According to the police report, the gun was loaded. That's kind of disturbing for some reason.

I'm not saying it's not disturbing, the whole incident is disturbing. But, if you're gonna carry around a gun and you aren't going hunting, then why would you have it unloaded?
Yeah, I see your point. If you're going to be carrying around a hand gun, why not keep it loaded so you can kill someone? Nothing disturbing about that.
It's not like they ordered a kid to climb a scissor lift in high winds to film a practice.
Fine, if that's true, then why didn't ND coaches do the same? I'm sure the kids friends and families care, even if the ND staff didn't.To be fair, the filmers at NU were up in the air in the same winds that day. Our head coach just got them down a lot quicker.
You'd have to ask Brian Kelly and it's absolutely true.Fine, if that's true, then why didn't ND coaches do the same? I'm sure the kids friends and families care, even if the ND staff didn't.
There's not a college program in the country who doesn't have players smoking pot. Pot is whatever, illegal, yes, but still whatever IMO.
I got into a heated argument with a friend yesterday who is an ND fan. He said there isn't a program in the country that doesn't have kids illegally possessing handguns either. I said less than 10% do, he said 90% do. I shot a text to a player who graduated from NU last year and he said that there have been a few different kids at NU while he was there that had "weapons arsenals in their dorm rooms". One can easily be found via google and most of you probably already know his name. He told me he'd guess that 90% or more of programs have idiots like this too.
Crazy how stupid some people are
I don't own a handgun but I live in a gun culture area. If you are carrying a hand gun for defensive purposes it is usually loaded. I've never known anyone who was carrying an unloaded gun. I just assume that half the women in any bar have a loaded gun in their purses.
In some ways it would be more disturbing to me if it were not loaded. That would mean they had not yet reached their intended target.
The third string kids will be expelled. The starters will serve a one quarter suspension in the first game and then all will be forgiven.
It looks like it might be the other way around. Starter and 5 star recruit booted off team today. I would agree with your comment if it was about Oklahoma or Mississippi.
