What's the point of living then? BTW Memfis is in Mississippi to a Tennesseean.

Add any quadrilateral shapes given that the State of Tennessee almost resembles one. No computer screens, flat screens, credit cards, bowl tickets, etc.

By the way, Tennessee literally lives up to the term "boycott." Derived from a British colonial officer who a group of Irish who refused to serve as domestics, a collection of orangemen (school colors, no coincidence) VOLUNTEERED to serve Captain Boycott instead.

Ha! Nice list, Shakes.

1. Okay, you don't have to give up all BBQ. Carolina BBQ is awesome, just very different from Memphis style (the latter is what most Tennesseans think of first). If you prefer beef briskit, Texas BBQ is also very good. So you're only 1/3 disavowed on this count.

2. I don't know if I could go four weeks without Jack Daniels. That's one exception I would make, were I you. Kentucky Bourbon just, well it just isn't.

3. You gotta give up pretty much all country music. The good, the old, and the bad. Sorry. Nashville has a stranglehold on that stuff.

4. Put away your Wilson golf clubs. They're made in Tennessee.

5. You can't stop for breakfast at any Cracker Barrel, headquartered right here in my home town of Lebanon.

5. No flying in any USAF supersonic fighter. All the research allowing them to fly at those speeds comes out of Tullahoma.

6. Oh, it's not only country music you have to abandon for the month--Memphis is the home of the Blues, so that's out as well. And you'd be amazed how many rock bands are built off a blues base (Zepellin, Pink Floyd, etc.).

7. Pencils. Believe it or not, most of the pencils sold in the US are made at three different factories owned by three companies in Shelbyville, TN.

I'm sure there are other things you're gonna have to abandon, too, those are just off the top of my head. Of them all, I'd cheat on the Jack. :)

Judging from the "visitors" on this board, Tennessee fans can't go 4 minutes without a shot of Jack

Sounds awesome

4. Put away your Wilson golf clubs. They're made in Tennessee.
I'm not golfer... But I live in Chicago. If I did have golf clubs, they'd be

5. You can't stop for breakfast at any Cracker Barrel, headquartered right here in my home town of Lebanon.
Ok... No Cracker Barrell and no country music. Damn

Pens only... That are made in China.

Northern Mississippi is part of Tennessee to a Memphian.

Some politician once labeled Miami, Florida, the "unofficial capital of the Caribbean". Memphis is kind of like that to the eastern third of Arkansas and the northern half of Mississippi.

Re: Shakes list: could do most of it----but couldn't live without Billy Ray and Miley.
Why is it I never think of Memphis as being in Tennessee (culturally not geographically)---always think Arkansas or Mississippi? Love Memphis, will not ignore any Vol posters that I know are from Memphis.

Unfortunately, you might have to avoid movies as well. Between Morgan Freeman (Memphis) and Samuel L Jackson (Chattanooga), you will have to boycott approximately 90% of the movies made in the last 20 years.

That's OK, Shakes has been putting off seeing the all Alaskan made movie "Big Miracle" which is completely Tennessee free:

I know, the below prop cabin from the movie may appear to be a Tennessee Mountain Mansion, but rest assured I photographed it here on the Alaska set.

(And no, Drew Barrymore, just because she is wearing an orange life vest, does not hail from Tennessee, nor does the animatronic whale that my camera caught popping its head through the ice set migrate to Tennessee in the winter either.)

Don't worry. I doubt any native Tennesseans were allowed to work on jet designs. Sewerage systems, maybe.

lets not forget you cant drive volkswagon or kia. and seats for sonata and elantra are made at the company i work for. plus many parts for other cars like bmw, mercedes, ford, gm and chrystler are made there. other companies make many automotive parts in the industry like nissan, kawasaki, honda and many more. you may have to invest in a horse and buggy.

You clearly aren't aware of the proud tradition of Tennesseans designing/building animatronic whales.

Nice try, but the animatronic whales in "Big Miracle" were designed and built in New Zealand and then brought by sea transport directly to Alaska.
