A balanced budget amendment solves a lot of our annual deficits on the discretionary (non mandated) side of the budget, but it doesn't cure the structural deficits built into our annual budgets that are locked in by Law because of mandates and entitlements. The dirty little secret about our ongoing deficit spending is a great deal of it cannot be stopped without serious and permanent entitlement reforms. Well guess who also favors entitlement reforms or reductions to eliminate these structural deficits, and who opposed him almost every time?

Will Trump shift on entitlements?

excerpt
A key House conservative says he’s confident reforms to Medicare and Social Security can happen with President Trump in the White House.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said Democratic efforts to tie Trump to campaign comments about preserving entitlement programs miss the mark, and that his talks with Trump show the president is prepared to back entitlement reform so long as current beneficiaries don’t see their benefits cut.

Read here how he was attacked simply for proposing cuts in the main drivers of our deficits

excerpt
Over the next 10 years, Trump’s 2020 budget proposal aims to spend $1.5 trillion less on Medicaid — instead allocating $1.2 trillion in a block-grant program to states — $25 billion less on Social Security, and $845 billion less on Medicare (some of that is reclassified to a different department). Their intentions are to cut benefits under Medicaid and Social Security. The impact on Medicare is more complicated, which I’ll get into a bit later.

Over time, the Trump administration tried to whittle down the president’s promise to just Social Security and Medicare. Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director Russ Vought said Monday, March 11, that Trump is “keeping his commitment to Americans by not making changes to Medicare and Social Security.” But even that is not true.

The point here is, clearly Trump both understood and tried to address where our deficit spending troubles lie. Without help from a compliant Congress, there is not much he can do on his own.

How much of that was COVID related? How much is due to govt required payments? I agree that govt spends too much. Economy stopped from covid and Mnunchin felt govt had to provide money to get people to shut their business down. Totally devastating to us. Should levy tariffs on China to help fill our coffers cause they released it
Any analysis of Trump's economic numbers without factoring in the devastation caused by the unneeded and unwarranted shutdowns due to the scam that was called "Covid" is disingenuous and dishonest at best. Trump's economy was performing at record levels before the China virus hoax was released all in attempts to slow down his economic trajectory heading into his reelection and blame him for it which is EXACTLY what the dishonest Left did.

Tax cuts are not spending! That's money those leeches can't spend because it stays with the folks who earned it. Of course that doesn't stop them, they spend the money anyway...either borrowing it or just printing it then they stick taxpayers with the bill! Most tax cuts actually increase revenue to the Treasury, but those drunken sailors spend the extra revenue and STILL run up more debt!

excerpt
Federal revenue didn’t fall after the big Trump administration tax cuts, much less by $2 trillion. Instead, total revenue rose. In fact, after trimming the rates for five of the seven brackets and nearly doubling the standard deduction, the government collected nearly $100 billion more in personal income tax revenue for the year ended Sept. 30, 2018. That was the biggest jump in three years. The conventional wisdom in media, political and policymaking circles is that tax cuts cost the government so much revenue that they drive the country’s enormous budget deficits, but this isn’t true. After President George W. Bush’s 2003 tax cuts, revenue rose for the next four years, with the deficit shrinking to as little as $161 billion in fiscal 2007. After the 1986 Reagan tax reform, which cut the top personal income tax rate from 50% to 28% and lowered the rates for other brackets, the deficit plummeted 32% the next year and stayed at that low level for another two years while revenue rose dramatically for three straight years.

To be honest Congress needs a serious enema when it comes to spending. Both sides in Truth are responsible for these massive deficits and this debt which in my opinion is no longer fully payable. However we have to start somewhere and that somewhere is cutting where we can NOW.

When he's re-elected, Trump will resume his assault on the deficit with meaningful spending reductions in discretionary spending just as he proposed during his first term, and he once again will propose spending reforms in entitlements which will include privatizing as much of those services as can be done. He will need support from Congress to get all that done and he can count on near unanimous opposition to all of it from the Democrat Socialists. However in Truth too many Republicans join those swamp dwellers simply because all they know how to do is spend, spend, spend.

Until or unless we get more Congressional representatives dedicated to protecting our fiscal solvency by restraining these runaway deficits, we are not going to ever wrestle this monster to the mat. We need spending reductions, tax cuts (because they increase revenue and grow the economy) and ultimately entitlement reforms to begin our assault on Mt Deficit. A vote for Trump in '24 is a marker you are ready to join in that effort to MAGA, but also vote for Representatives who will link arms with Trump to get this deficit monster under control. He can't do it all by himself.

How many years? Three? Our govt has put in too much have to pays
So much of that Covid relief was also wasted or fraudulently disbursed! Here in Georgia, our Fulton county DA used part of that money to prosecute Trump for allegedly trying to undermine our '20 election results and instead used it to pay for lavish trips with her boyfriend who she hired at 700K to prosecute the case!

She's in hot water right now over all that, but without the Covid funds made available to her corrupt fat ***, she'd probably have not filed the case at all!

That is the next bombshell to drop in this scandal. Her efforts were totally coordinated with Biden's DOJ and Trump's lawyers have the receipts in the form of logs of both she and her Lover visiting the WH before the case was even filed. Why?

Not sure but we do know they were "gettin' it on" well before she filed that bogus RICO complaint against Trump. We also know it was filed AFTER she and her "secret Lover" paid several visits to the WH to meet with creepy Joe's legal team. I predict she's going to be removed from this case, and the whole thing probably then gets dismissed because of her shenanigans.

Trump approved of those "deficit spending" measures in 2017 and 2018......and DID NOT DISAGREE about it. You still haven't provided me evidence saying he was against that spending? Because you know as well as I do that he would have taken to Twitter and blasted it. But he didn't.

Basic message board etiquette some just don't get, especially those educated in substandard government schools. They're the same folks who vote for tax increases and call it "deficit reduction" while tax cuts are blamed for "deficit spending"

What else would you expect from the government besides confused illiteracy disguised as informed ignorance?

So what if he's called a "Dictator", at least stupid Leftists can't complain he didn't do anything about these deficits right?

Easy to refute. I gave you the numbers. Now.....refute them. IT IS THAT EASY. You don't need "sources" when the numbers are present. Do you link box scores of games when you mention who scored how many points in a game?

1. Did Trump increase deficit $8.4 trillion?
2. Did Trump increase it by $3-4 trillion PRIOR TO Covid?
3. Are the economic numbers in the chart not accurate about Republican vs. Democrat administrations?

Trump is not a Dictator. He can ask Congress to cut spending each year (as he clearly did) but he can't force them. Stupid Leftists excuse budgets proposed by Democrats with deficits as far as the eye can see and never once complain about them being rubber stamped into Law.

Stupid Leftists can't read ITT where Trump's budget cuts were presented and rejected by Congress. Even more stupid is posting unsourced numbers that can't be cross referenced (probably because they come from some Left wing NGO that's lying about how those numbers were compiled)

Doesn't matter. Trump will certainly face opposition again to his proposals to cut deficit spending after he's re-elected, then he will be blamed for every penny he proposes that isn't cut by the profligate spenders in Congress. Most of them will be the same stupid Democrats who've never met a balanced budget they like.

He should and will propose another balanced budget ammendment anyway. Maybe one day those stupid Leftists will catch on?

Unsourced? Fact check the numbers. You don't need a source to fact check anything. Tell me again, how Christian are you? I didn't know Christ promoted executions for not supporting the views of someone else.

Trump had a 55% majority Republican House in 2017-18. Did NOT veto their budget. Approved it without debate.

Stupid is asking someone to refute numbers without a simple source link. If information used is so easy to check, why is it so difficult to source?

Ans: Because if the fraudulent source is linked, the fraudent numbers presented can be easily refuted by someone who's not illiterate and can easily cross reference them for accuracy.

It's like researchers posting results of their studies and not providing the source data used to reach their conclusions. Research 101. Not taught by government educators. Just take our word for it.

Easy. Show me the "true" numbers then. Pretty simple. You seem a little unhinged. More than usual. Maybe because you cannot refute the information.
