All of them had over a month to hammer out their differences and make deals. To push it off until now looks ridiculous and weak.
McCarthy didn't do his job, and neither did those 20 individuals. What we have now are a bunch of babies taking their ball and going home. Hammer out a compromise and move on.

How did the 20 not do their job? They brought their concerns to him. He abjectly refused to even consider it, calling his speakership "inevitable". We're seeing how inevitable it was right now.
But it is inevitable. Unless he decides to step down from running for Speaker, he will become the next speaker.
What these 20 come across as, as does McCarthy, are individuals who have their feet dug in the sand and refuse to budge. Now that may be principled, but it's not going to win them a damn thing, and certainly not going to put them into a position of accomplishing any of their goals.
I understand the "politics" of all of it, but in reality those 20 folks are doing what they were elected by their constituents to do! I don't mind the fight, because the status quo is NOT working for anyone...most of all the folks who pay the bills. I suppose it's working fine for the folks who spend the money though.
We need more like the fighting 20 and less like ones who voted for that lousy omnibus bill IMO!
