Spent a long weekend test driving SUV's. Used ones, just for a ride to leisure about with lots of space. Test drove an Armada. Got up to 70 mph and hit cruise, the RPM's were sitting at 2200. I've drove Armadas before, and don't recall that level of RPMs (1800-1900 max). I've got a 4-cylinder SUV and a 6-cylinder SUV, and the 4 cyl is 2100 at that speed, and the 6 cyl is 1800. I would think the big Nissan V-8 would be at highest 1800. Same engine as the Titan. Good, quality engines and transmissions. Just wondering if this one may have some problems getting ready to emerge.

Seems like most models have optimized performance/fuel efficient sweet spot around 1700-1800. And now with cars have 8 speeds or more, you rarely see rpms going much higher than 2500 before shifting. In my 7 speed Titan, it cruises at 70 around 1800. My wife's 8 speed Telluride same.

Yes that is high for cruising at 70 .
Walk away from that vehicle.
Heck my 3/4 ton at 70 is at 1800 unless going up hill & that's at a 10,000 lb pay load . I use it as a welding rig .

Yeah, I mentioned that to the salesperson. He seemed pissed and said I was "knit-picking" and it was "perfectly normal". I told him I wasn't no average Joe off the street. I know a little bit. I did walk away.

Were the rims/tires stock or after market? Rim/wheel size makes a difference

Also, I had a Nissan Frontier as a rental while back. If it is in Sport mode it won't shift to the highest gear unless you manually do it. I remembered the transmission shift logic was a little wonky in it.

This. Rear gear ratio plus how much overdrive is in the highest gear. Tire size also affects gear ratio (taller tire, less RPM's).
Gear ratio means the world. but in a suv I would think it would have a higher ratio just for mpg.

Depends on the vehicle, but that's normal. Anywhere between 1500 and 2500 is typical, again, depending on the vehicle, at 70 mph. Very typical for an Armada.

being a gear-head I looked briefly at the rear differential ratio of Armadas. It appears there were two different rear ends based on the trim line of the vehicle. Non-big tow is 2.94 and the big tow/off road is 3.36. this might account for the RPM at the speed MountaineerWVU listed previously.

Remember that's a heavier vehicle, and going upgrade that engine will work harder especially carrying a load. The exact torque specs you'd have to look up for that vehicle, but I don't think what you posted is all that unusual for a large SUV.
