Virginia Tech is currently 5-5 with two games to go in 2021. The Hokies were 5-6 in 2020 and didn’t go to a bowl game. It was the first season without a bowl game for the Hokies since the school went 20-8-1 in 1992 before a long run of excellence under Frank Beamer.

Fuente was hired from Memphis ahead of the 2016 season. The Hokies went 10-4 in his first season with the school and then never got to 10 wins again. After Tech went 9-4 in 2017, Fuente’s teams have had just one winning season. VT needs to get a win at either Miami or Virginia to make a bowl game in 2021.

Virginia Tech finishes with a 43-31 record under Fuente. Assistant coach J.C. Price will be the Hokies' interim coach for the rest of the season.

Fuente's $10 million buyout

Fuente gets $10 million from Virginia Tech since he was fired in November. His buyout dropped to under $8 million after Dec. 1. Virginia Tech clearly decided it was worth the extra buyout money to make a move a couple weeks earlier.https://sports.yahoo.com/virginia-tech-and-justin-fuente-mutually-agree-to-part-ways-132621790.html

So Fuente went
10-4
9-4
6-7
8-5
5-6
5-5 (currently)

And VT ousted him.

Meanwhile Brown at WVU:

4-6 (currently)
6-4 (with bowl game eke over Army)
5-7

and was extended and can do whatever? Different levels of expectation of success clearly.

You cannot compare Virginia Tech to any power five school in my opinion. Virginia Tech numbers are a child of inflated production. Their conference is so drastically week that seven wins a year should be a given no matter what circumstance they are experiencing.

During the end of Beamer’s tenure, Virginia Tech started a downward spiral as Clemson further distance themselves from the rest of that conference. Virginia Tech never really encountered, until the past couple years, where their conference opponents became marginally good.

Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Boston College, Duke, Miami have all been a bust for countless years. Essentially since they joined the ACC, they started racking up more wins from a marginal conference. Any of those teams mentioned becomes above average, Virginia Tech struggles to become bowl eligible.

Should he be fired? Probably. But the ESPN media darling VT is not the program it’s made out to be.

The new coach will understand that he is taking over the most overrated program for the past 20 years in the country. Fuente felt the same way.

CFE use your own profile when playing your silly numbers game. Brown beat Fuentes. Holgs couldn't .

Fuentes 6 years. Brown 3. Get over it. Things will balance eventually with or without Brown.

I remember the Rich Rod years... and early Nehlen years... always worried someone was going to come and steal our coach. No worries now.

That’s the excuse for Kneel Browns extension that fans made. Yet, no one really thinks that highly of him to even try and offer him up.

Wvu should have fired Holgorsen in 2015. The allowed the 2nd losing est coach to run wvu into the ground.

Odd. Why would you fire a coach that took on an under recruited for years team- that took that team year one and won 10 games - rare in WVU history, coached WVU to a historical crushing of favored Clemson in a major Bowl, then had to engineer a complete change for WVU into the toughest conference WVU has ever been a part of- and won at the historical avg of WVU year one in that league- because he had ONE losing season after injuries to a starting QB left him inexperienced in that position?

Brown is well on his way to THREE STRAIGHT losing regular seasons and did not accomplish anything close to what Holgorsen did for WVU his first three. What ignorance is driving your blind support?

We had a winning season last year dumbass. The team that won the Orange bowl was not recruited by Holgorsen. Holgorsen was a lousy recruiter just relied on Graduate transfers. That's why he got out because he knew the bottom was about to fall out. He had a terrible bowl record and had some of the most embarrassing bowl losses in the programs history. You keep telling us that he was 4 points away from playing for a big 12 title. How many teams that score 56 points at home end up losing? That was Holgorsen in a nut shell.
